Erm... I'm pretty sure these models DON'T have phantom power.

Thanks for that. That guide was the best I've seen on here. All nicely laid out and easy to follow. All uncapped now and things sounding great as per usual!

I was away from home with my NH900 unit and wanted to record a friend's gig. However, when I tried setting a recording up, it would only let me select the format I would record it in. There were no mic sens. or agc options or volume adjustments, which is weird because I had done it before. However, I have two NH900's and was out with the newer one. I'm back home now and have tested it and can't get the options up for finer recording adjustment. Then I used my older NH900 unit and found that all the options for finer adjustment were there! So, what's going on? Are there crippled units out there? I was not aware of this and was really disappointed when I couldn't get a recording done with my newer one. I bought another one SPECIFICALLY to record with. And it would've been a nice surprise to get her gig recorded. Is there a way to get all the options back? I've tried to access the service mode but with no success. Just to make sure, is the following the way to access that mode: FF - FF - RW - RW - FF - RW - FF - RW - Pause - Pause - - - ? Thanks, Adam. DAMN IT!!! Okay... even though I've had my older unit for 2 years, I still didn't realise that there was an advanced menu system option! Me feel dumb. Okay, all the options I know are there now. But I must admit, I'm still wondering about getting into that service mode. I want to uncap the volume thing as I did with my older unit. Can't seem to get into it. Hmm...

That site doesn't post to the UK. Does anyone know of any other place that could do a similar price for us UK HiMD lovers? Or maybe someone here knows how to get these HiMD's for UK folk? Later, Adam.

Very reasonable prices from this ebay seller. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1 I'm definitely going to be FINALLY picking up some Hi-MD discs next week. Oh, payday can't come quick enough. Later, Adam.

Well, I'm a musician and sound engineer and I'm loving my NH900 Hi-MD. I grab a mic and the Hi-MD out of my bag and start recording whatever I want. Whether it be interesting sounds or song ideas. The only likeable thing about the microtrack, for me, is the 24/96 recording. However, while I do like that format, I'd only use it for very very specialised one-offs, e.g. theater filming for dvd. Nope... I'm going to stick with the wonder that IS Hi-MD. Adam.

Do you have XP SP1 or SP2? Or neither. I'll tell you what happened to me... I had XPSP1 installed on the computer and I'd always held off SP2 because I didn't like certain things about it. Then I got an NH900 Hi-MD. The included 2.1 sonicstage worked well for me. And I was happy. Then I spied that there was a version 3.1 on this site and got the full pack. Installed it and lost my Hi-MD from the software. Couldn't get it back. Then I heard that maybe SP2 would help. I installed it and hurrah - it worked! So, ever since, I've been using my Hi-MD without any problems whatsoever. I'm loving it more and more. Hope this helps. Hmm... just checked my SS software and noticed, I don't have 3.2 installed. Later, Adam.

Ha hah! Syncing up, eh? Well, there are two ways that I'm looking at more and more. 1. Use a set of beeps against all running gear with sound, then these can be synced up in post. 2. Or, use a visual clue when filming, e.g. a clapper board. The one and only time I've used MD for sound was during a 35 minute interview. I set the camera and then got the MD running alongside. But I didn't use any of the above to get things in sync. When I got it back home, I matched the MD sound to the camera sound pretty well. But because of the nature of the old hi-8 camera and tape, it went out of sync and was obvious around the 20 minute mark. But it wasn't that difficult to cut up before that point and listen/watch the tape, then sync it back up. And that was it pretty much sorted from there on. I use Vegas Video like Andicillo. I believe there's a function where you can attach audio to certain video clips. So, you could cut together takes and that MD audio (for instance) would follow your edits! Pretty clever software. So, it's good to make written notes about what's being recorded, because then you should know where things will go with what. Later, Adam.

I was really hoping this would work for me. I tried clear tape and it didn't work, then thought I should use brown tape and that didn't work either. Is this the only advice for this problem? Or could the Hi-MD disk simply be buggered? I remember I had some trouble with it before. But after holding the usb cable in tighter on connect-up, it worked and I recorded some stuff to it. The next time I decided to play that disk it said, "No track" and I had to re-initialize the disk. And since then, it's been protected, no matter what I do! Adam.

Quite funny since I did this by complete mistake a few nights ago! I was going to record a conversation on my NH900 but totally forgot I'd left it on record-pause. 5 hours later and it was still on! I checked the battery and the bars hadn't moved. Not bad, I say. Adam.

Folks... I got it working! The problem? Well, I installed SP2 for Windows XP. I'm glad nothing major has happened to my machine as a result of this. But at least the Hi-MD shows up in SonicStage. I also used the internet setup so that it downloaded the components from the web to install. Before reinstalling SS, I followed the removal advice in the stickied thread about deleting registry entries and folders left behind by previous installations. The only thing I'm not any further on, though, is the write/protected thing. I still get told that I can't get anything to or from the Hi-MD as it's write/protected. Just to make sure, I got a bog standard MD and formatted for Hi-MD and managed to convert an MP3 with no problems. I read somewhere on here that SS may have added this write/protected 'bit' onto the disc. How the heck can it be removed?? I also read that in service mode, it should be able to bypass this 'bit' and wipe the disc. Since there's nothing major on the disc, I'm not afraid of doing just that! Any help would be most appreciated. Thanks, Adam.

Looks like there's something else annoying to add to the list. I said that the disc was protected, yes? Well, after moving the tab back and forth, it won't unprotect the disc!!! I can't do anything with it at all... I've gone through the menus on the remote stick and the main unit, but can't find anything. What happened? It was accessing fine before I connected to the computer. Adam.

I'm a new user but have gotten to grips with a lot of stuff pretty quickly. But the SonicStage 2.1 and 3.1 software are driving me nuts! I've got a Sony NH900 and wanted to transfer my mic test recordings onto the pc. Installed SS2.1 and the Hi-MD was in the transfer list. Cool. I clicked and listened to my recordings. Nice! I'm starting to love it. Then I click to copy it to the PC - error. It says that the disk is write protected. I checked the Hi-MD and made sure the tab was in the correct position. Tried it again and it still said the same thing. I thought that maybe it was the version of SonicStage and installed the full 3.1 installer. Now, when I go into the program, my minidisc is not listed! I've tried taking out the usb and then putting it back in 10 secs later. Nothing. I've removed the drive from device manager and then plugged back in to see it reinstall. Back in SS and still nothing. I think the last one I did was unplugging it while in SS and then plugging back in about 10secs later. But yeah, still nothing. Can anyone point me in the right direction? I'm also trying to copy some music to the Hi-MD as well, but have only just tried that in the SS 3.1 software. No joy, of course. Thanks, Adam.
