  1. Sony seem to have always been worried that MD wouldn't work and held themselves back from commitment. If one day (& completely by accident) it became "popular" then they'd be laughing all the way to the bank. In the meantime, we love MD for what it is - 90% of what it could be!!!
  2. I'm sure that the answer is around here somewhere...

That was quick! Where did you get it from?
  4. I'd just like to add that I hesitated between the nh1 and the nh900. After considering all the pros and cons I plumped for the 900 and I don't regret it. No MD is perfect though (yet).

    Ssaad.exe?

SSAAD launches itself every few days or so on my PC. I 'ctrl+alt+sup' and zap it. Stupid Sony.
  6. Cheesy Wotsits aren't food!! I'm having some Figatelli (Corsican saucisson) with bread - that's a snack!!!!

Thanks a lot everyone for giving your opinions. Well, nobody has tried to persuade me not to buy it.

Thanks smkranz, I'm not ready for an RH10 yet and what's the point of OLED when the unit is tucked away in it's case or whatnot? I think I would prefer a NH900 with a 40elk than an RH10 with one of those silly braille remotes (or none at all). $70 is too much for me. I've got the Spousal Unit v1.0 and she doesn't speak "Minidisc". She's been programmed to speak "Real Leather Uppers" and wouldn't understand the budget deficit. Even RH10 users are in the same boat there. My heart says 'Yay!' but my brain/pocket says 'Nay!'. ...

I use my nh900 daily in the car and I'm starting to get into live recording. Obviously the 40elk seems excellent for taping (if only there were a record button!) and I would like to know if it's a "once you've got it, you can't live without it" remote. The buttons on the back would appear to counter the backwardness of other Sony remotes. Could you live without it?
  10. If you delete a track/album from you Sonicstage library it will NOT be deleted from the md. Of course, you can access your player through Sonicstage and delete the tracks on your md, if you want to. Sonicstage isn't that dangerous. It will however only allow you to upload a track once, apparently on the 2nd request it zaps the track. But once is enough for me.

I've been hesitating to buy a 40ELK remote for a while now. The cheapest I can find (ebay) - usually sells for about $70 incl. shipping to Europe. That's a lot of money! I've read some old threads which are not conclusive but with my 38EL being so unuser friendly I think that it could only be better. I like the 3 line display and the recording volume control. What do all you 40ELK users think? Is it worth $70??
  12. The 2nd generation do exactly? as they claim - they support mp3. After that I think that you should let your ears do the choosing. Sure, I'm not an owner, but it's a bit like the old SP/LP2/LP4 question. If mp3 sounds good to you then great - if it's not so good then put it in Atrac... There's no point threatening Sony - I'm sure that they're quite deaf. Do it. Tell everyone what's wrong and hope that Sony will feel obliged to correct? it in time for #3. I'm holding my breath, but don't try this at home kids!
  13. The point is that it's a question that keeps coming around. "I'm a newbie and I am far too lazy to search for this SonicStage problem which has already been posted 137 times" is another. It's a good initiative Bananatree but may I suggest that Mr Administrator places a "Mac" faq and a "SonisStage" faq in a more prominent position. But then again there are other things which won't go away like netmd uploading... Don't get me wrong - I'm all for helping people to help themselves! and everyone has the right to ask a stupid question from time to time. That reminds me... are md's comestible or not, I mean, it's not written on the packet and those color collection discs look so yummy...
  14. Page 75 of the nh900 manual explains how to keep the 38EL's backlight on. Does this apply to the nh900+40ELK combo? Me too wants a 40.
  15. Welcome to the world of Minidisc. Welcome to the world of Minidisc. Welcome to the world of Minidisc. Welcome to the world of Minidisc. Welcome to the world of Minidisc. Minidisc is a world of left-handed people who have to change the recording level manually and then slowly transfer thier recording in a format that nobody else can use before the battery runs out. Welcome.
