My RH10 has had one problem in the 7 months that I've had it. The eject function has stopped working so the lid opens fine but the MD doesn't pop out. I'll get round to sending it off for repair or replacement at some stage before the 12 months are up Apart from that its been a fantastic unit. I covered the screen as soon as I got it with a piece of PDA screen cover for protection as I'd heard that they scratch easily.

Is the RM-MC40ELK fully functional with 2nd generation Hi-MD?

Not got that one for my RH10 but I have heard that it functions fine with that model but doesn't display all the info you want at the same time. -
Oh yes. A Hi-md deck is very much on my wish/hope/dream list. I wish I'd taken advantage of the cheap MZ-NH1s going in the UK over the summer. They are back up in price again now. I was tempted away by the RH10 as my first HI-MD and although it is a great piece of kit, I think I'd like a NH1 too. I really really hope that there wil be G3 but I'm not holding my breath. In the UK even blank media is becoming really tough to get hold of at any sort of a decent price in small quantities. I can't afford to buy 50 at a time. But if G3 does materialise then I'll be up for a piece of that assuming they have ironed out some of the old issues.

I too went away for a while (6 months or so) but have returned to embrace Hi-md with open arms. I love my rh10 and I won't stray again. I do miss all of my old players and recorders but I do have one relic of pre-hi-md times. My beautiful MZ-E10 which I was given (by a traitorous soul who went the way of the iriver, but it was free to me so I won't complain) on the stipulation that I wouldn't sell it on ebay so I still have but don't use as I've shifted format entirely. My only real disappointment is with the shabby UK version of the rh10 remote and the fact that 1gb discs are ever more difficult to come by reasonably priced. The sound quality and just the feel and look of my md is something I didn't find elsewhere and I think you are right that we always come back. Although if my iriver friend thinks he is getting his MZ-E10 back....

My remote (UK) is so rubbish that I use the unit more than I'd like. I have PDA screen protector on mine as well as keeping it in case. No scratches as yet! I may invest in a better remote - one with a display at all would be a big bonus!!!

You could always just translate the text of the dutch review using an online translator like babelfish (google it). It'll be a bit messed up gramatically of course, but may be able to tell you what you want to know?

I've had my RH10 for nearly 3 weeks and it's not got scratched yet, although I am incredibly careful and have hardly take it out of the padded case I have since I bought it. That is no way to live though is it? I'm sure it's just a matter of time and although I'd like to keep mine looking good for as long as possible (mostly just to prove wrong my annoying MP3 player mad friend who berated me over buying a HI-MD rather than high spec MP3 and told me that OLED never lasts) but it's not going to stop me using it for the reasons that it was made. I do wish that Sony had spent a bit more on it though!

To be honest, I use Hi-LP a bit. I have most of my music on a few 1GB discs and take them away with me etc when I want my whole collection. I don't mind the loss in quality in these circumstances as I'm just listening on my portable and its ok, not great, but ok. Day to day at home though, I use HI-SP as of course it sounds better. 1GB discs are not as expensive or hard to come by in the UK as they were so I don't have a problem with the way I do it at the mo.
