I have a MZ-NH600 with a battery powered mic in the line in with a new battery in the mic and the MD unit. I press the REC button and the pause button at the same time, it goes into line recording mode. I hold down the menu button. I scroll through the menu, and go into Rec set and there is only a REC mode option under this menu and no options to set the levels to manual. Does anyone know what I am doing wrong here? Cheers.

The silly thing about this whole "Aussie drops MD" thing is that aussie is a great place to own a MD, when ever I go there I buy Hi-MD discs...you can walk in off the street into a JB hiFi store and buy them for $4.25 they are $14 here... just about the cheapest place you can get Hi-MD media anywhere!!

That sounds good....so I can use the RH-10 to get tracks on....sweet!

I have had an MZ-RH10 for about 8 months and I love it...tonight I found a mint condition MZ-R909 with all the original box content with 12 MD's, and a MD wallet all for $45 nz (about $20US)...REALLY CHEAP, so I brought it without thinking...nice looking unit and everything....+ all the extras, discs and battery are worth the value anyway... So here's my question: Can I convert tracks to MDLP in SS - then copy the tracks via USB to a disc in my RH-10 formated in MD (I assume the MZ-RH10 can do that)....then use the disc in my MZ-R909 thus avoid having to copy music real time? I would have just tried it but I am waiting for the unit to arrive in the mail. I know 2nd gen Hi-MD can't play old MDLP discs...but can it write them using SS? Cheers p.s. check out the deal I got: http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=57473702

Great advice...problem fixed....did a system restore back to May 3!!! Thanks.....just a word to those that may think that the virus is fixed because AVG or whatever spotted it...go to control panel and try and adjust your windows firewall settings....if it comes up with an error...you will need to fix it! System restore back to may 3! Not being able to adjust your firewall can be a pain even if you don't use winfirewall!

What all you Smug people don't understand is that even if you have a virus scanner the virus can do damage....I have one ....and it spotted the file as soon as I clicked on the file...but the damage was done! Firewall setting can now not be adjusted!
-
My virus scanner got the virus straight away...and it's gone....and I have a hardware firewall anyway so I don't care about winfirewall....winfirewall can be a pain if you can't adjust the settings....i.e. when sharing meida over my network with my xbox and other pc the firewall my be a problem! And to be fair....the message came from a source which I trusted....they have sent us info about new software in the past!
-
I feel like a retard...but I opend the link.....and my win firwall is fucked....pisses me off....I guess I wanted some new Minidisc software....damn it! is there a way to fix the firewall problem without having to reinstall windows?

Hi, the only show I have recorded was done so at night in complete darkness...thus I wasn't all that worried about having my mics clipped onto my shirt...and they are only tinny. Now here's my question, I want to record in a summer festival in daylight, and wanted to know if having the mics under a cotton shirt would affect the sound I gather....also...I was wondering if certain materials are better...I assume the mesh used on speakers doesn't affect sound, so if I was the make a fake 2nd collar on my shirt with some speaker material and have the mic hidden underneath that...would that affect the sound...I am gonna do some tests, but I wanted to know if anyone has opinions on my speaker material idea. Cheers, sorry for the ranting.

My work laptop has Adobe Audition, so I am thinking I will be able to use that to do some basic mastering on my recordings. Does anyone have any suggestions on useful things to apply to recordings. At this stage I am thinking I will probably need to normalize my recordings - they are a little quiet when I use the battery box. And this seems easy enough to do. Anything else? It seems like such powerful software, and I don't really know how to use any of the features...having said that I don't want to mess with my recordings just for the sake of it! What about equalization? What about this Binaural Auto-Panner – I have binaural mics so it seems like something that would be useful? I am doing some reading – so I am not looking for someone to hold my hand through it, I am just looking for some suggestions experiences etc Cheers

The mics were $80US with a battery box! Not that expensive at all, and the guy did the Mod for me for free too, so I am pretty happy! I can't hear the difference between the channels, on the level meter on my RH10 I just noticed that the right side goes up a bit before the left, never more than one bar above it, and only briefly, they are normally the same though, just when the sound increases the right bar jumps up first! How can I express this in db? So back at your other comment, so your saying about 4 bars is ideal with peaks at about 5...and never going up off the end? I thought you were meant to have it on 5 ideally! 4 did sound pretty good though, I would be happy with that! Then normalize after for listening purposes! Cheers

Ok, just got my new mics, they are Omnidirectional Powered Stereo Mics from Giant squid - they have pretty dam low sensitivity, and I would like some opinions. Sensitivity: -44 decibel +3 decibels - they have a linkwitz mod and I am using a battery box! I am recording through line in! So I did some tests around the home, hooked the mics on my shirt, and cranked up my home stereo and sat in front of the speakers, pretty loud, but not as loud as a rock concert the type of recordings I would like to make, I adjust the REC LEVEL settings and started playing, and even with the level set to 30 I could only get the bars to 4 on each side peaking with the odd pop between the dashes, on my RH10. These aren't gonna be too low sensitivity are they? The results sound pretty good, I have to crack up the volume but it sounds good, I could always normalize the recording after anyway right....so really just wondering 4 bars on 30 isn't too much of a worry from a home stereo is it, if I am wanting to record loud concerts! And also, if 30 is giving me 4 bars from a stereo, 30 is pretty much gonna have to be what I use to record a concert right? Just a newbie that wants some reassurance, Cheers! Also, I noticed that the right side is a little more sensitive than the left, is this just the music that I am recording and the sounds coming out of each channel or is one mic likely to be a little more sensitive than the other and is so that’s not too big a deal is it?

Just another question to throw in here....if you have a powered mic...will you save on power consumption?..i.e. the mic won't be using any of the MD bat so i assume you would, if this were the case how long would you say you would get out of the gumstick bat on PCM -> powered mic? Cheers
-
How did you record for 8 hours in PCM? 5-6 discs? If I were to record in HiSP the gumstick will be fine for how long? At least 3-4 hours right? The 90min PCM limitation is too short for many of the gigs I would like to record! Wish I could record - but switching discs makes me nervious!

RH10 - It got it from overseas...so the plug that came with it needs one of those fittings to work in our sockets! ..new zealand So..I am gonna have to buy a new one?
-
The power adapter for the AC plug for my MD doesn't seem to work...so the only way to charge my unit is using the USB cord...will this effect the life of the battery? or should I go look for another power adapter? The battery doesn't seem to be lasting too long...and I wonder if I would be getting more life out of it if I was chargfing it using the AC plug. Cheers

Thanks so much, just what I was looking for, got 3 five packs today!!! Should keep me happy for a while...much better than the $14 NZ that I have to pay at home!! Cheers

Ok so if HiMD Disks are so cheap in Australia can anyone tell me where I will be able to buy some HiMD disks in Brisbane? I am going there in a few days!

Sweet thanks for the fast reply from both of you, Cheers

Just a silly question, Are ES Minidisc's just the same as old MD's i.e. they will work in my Hi-MD player? Their're not some sort of wierd format that won't work? I am sure they will, but I don't won't to bid on this auction if they're not gonna work! Cheers http://www.trademe.co.nz/Electronics-photo...on-34054582.htm

I have been a fan of DBpower amp for ages, but I have found that it causes some flacs to decompress with errors, smalls pops and cracks...using the latest version of flac frontend is your safest bet!
-
Where can i buy those from, I live in New Zealand and don't use Ebay at this stage! I was hoping to use my credit card to buy from an online store! Cheers
-
Ok, I have some good ideas about where i should mount the mics...but I am still more confussed than ever about what mics to get! How about some SP-BMC-12...and a battery pack??
