  1. MD Studio will convert them to wav, the brochure states that it is completly lossless with know generation loss due to decoding and encoding...http://www.esdl.co.uk/body/mdte/mdte.htm
  2. Does anyone know if that's an external battery caddy connection there in the picture above the power supply?...looks similar to the one on my rh10...just wondering cause I've never seen this model for sale with this accessory included
  3. Ok well has anyone even heard about this? I can't seem to find the post that mentioned it.
  4. And while I'm on the topic I know of one other way of getting legacy md files uploaded to the computer. The program MD Studio coupled with a SCSI MD Data drive (although I've heard this runs around $3500) will do it and also will repair damaged md's along with other stuff. Check it out at http://www.esdl.co.uk/body/mdte/mdte.htm. So I'd like to hear any feeback from any forum users that are familiar with this program. And a shoutout to any hackers that might know why this program hasn't been exploited to allow uploading of legacy md's through the himd units. It's obvious the program writers have cracked the sony encyption that we so desperatly yearn for. Is it just that the right hacker hasn't had access to this program, or would hacking this be tantamount to hacking sonicstage? It kind of seems to me that we md users just don't have a big enough constituency of hackers to support the programming, unlike such things as dvd ripping which is a popular thing. Is that what it is? Do we just need to find the right hacker? Or is it something that even the best hacker couldn't do? From what I can figure, if we can get a copy of MD Studio alls a hacker would have to do is change the way the program trys to get the data...instead of a scsi interface, it would have to be usb interface...and then we could plug in a himd unit and presto. Just throwing the idea out there...seeing what everyone thinks.
  5. This is not the right section I'm sure but since this is an upload issue that I'm concenrned with I'm putting it here. There is a professional model deck (HHB MDP 500, retails for $1500) that advertises the ability to upload to pc or mac over USB. I would like someone to explain this to me. My guess is that it stores it in wav format and therefore is available for drag and drop. This doesn't make much sense because it says that it encodes the audio in atrac 4.5. But the info doesnt mention any program and the fact that its mac and pc compatable makes me think its drag and drop. Does this mean the unit encodes the data to atrac and then again to wav? Basically what I wanna know is if recordings made on other pre-himd units can be uploaded using this unit. And if this is the case why hasn't this been exploited to allow uploading of legacy md's using the usb connection on hi'md decks? If the MDP500 uses some software to decode the md data this same software should work with any himd deck that can be used as a data drive. Know what I mean? My guess is that the MDP encodes the audio differently and is therefore drag and dropable. Anyone care to enlighten? Here's a link to the brochure: http://www.hhb.co.uk/hhb/global/brochures/...sc_Brochure.pdf
  6. I need a conclusive statement from someone who has had first hand experience uploading a PCM recording made on some non-mac model such as an Rh-10, to a mac using a m10 or m100 and the supplied uploading program. I know this has been mentioned before but I don't remember seeing any first hand responces from someone who has tried it. I know the inverse is possible...a recording made on an M model can be uploaded using a non-mac model, but I have yet to hear compelling comments that you can upload and older PCM recording using one of these mac models. Please someone who has actually tried this clear it up for me, a purchase is contingent on it. Thanks
  7. Basically I want to split my mic signal to go into two mixers but I only want to power them with one. Normally I go from the mics to a Samson mixpad 4 into the minidisc. This supplies 18 volts phantom power which is withen operating range but not ideal. Now I have a laptop with an XLR USB interface that supplies 48 volt, plus I can record at 24/96. So can I split the XLR coming out of the mics, one into the Samson, one into the USB, and only power it with the USB and still get a signal to both? I'm mostly concerned with having a backup running in case the computer crashes (the recording would stop but the USB power would probably stay on). Thanx for the help.
  8. All right I need something cleared up: I just read that you can use and RH model to upload recording made on a MH model. But I also read somewhere else on the forum that you can use an MH model to upload recordings made on an RH model. Did someone get mixed up or are both of these statements true?
  9. So my friend wants to get into recording but he doesn't have anything as opposed to me who has everything including my new Rh10. Unfortunatly I only have a mac and he only has a PC. Does anyone see where I'm going with this. I'm buying the new Mac unit and he's buying the mic and rh10 off me. Everything works out that way... Now if only I had a bunch of friends like him for all you guys stuck with a mac and rh unit.
  10. I have a JA20 with optical out and i'll be transfering some legacy md's to my RH10 using PCM. The JA20 has a bit selector for the optical out: 16. 20 , and 24...what do I want this to be at to get the best recording?
  11. and speaking of hacking USB boxes for battery power....anybody know if it can be done with the pro tools mbox?
  12. I am not doing stealth, fully open...I've seen DAT recorders using some kind of box that might help me but it has s/pdif coaxial out on it...anybody know anything about these boxes and a portable coaxial to optical converter (I'd rather not use hacks if I don't have to)
  13. OK ...I dont know if theres anything like this already posted... if there is please refer me...I've been recording for years now on my two r70's (two helps when sets go over 80 min). heres my setup: two sennheiser me66 (i think) shotguns into a samson mixpad 4..the pad supplies 18v phantom which is better than just using AA's in the mics. The mixer has TRS outs that double as 1/4 inch monos...since i don't have a TRS to RCA adaper (anyone know of any) i have to use an unbalanced 1/4 inch to mini adapter, and that goes right into the line in on the recorder. First question... how can I take advantage of my balanced TRS outs? I know how to solder. 2nd question...i recently picked up a cheap analog to digital converter from radioshack and equiped it with a 9 volt power box...it works like it should...takes RCA input and outputs toslink optical and this goes into the recorder but I'm a little concerned about the quality of the A/D converter in this thing compared to the one in the minidisc recorders (in both the r70 and my new rh10). 3rd question ....does anyone know of a battery powered unit that would allow me to input XLR, with phantom power, minor mixing capabilites, and with a high quality A/D converter that will output optical to the MD deck? If so I can't find it Thanks for all the help
