  1. Hi,

My network walkman, NW A608 has stopped functioning...

When it is connected to the computer, Sonicstage recognizes it, Connect recognizes it...in Windows I can use it as a flash drive, and the display screen shows "USB Connect" charging animation as well as the data transfer animation.

But when I unplug it, generally it should show "Data Access", well it doesn't show, and the screen remains blank.

I tried the reset switch, but pressing that brings up the battery full screen. So as of now I can use it only as a 2GB flash drive, and my "Walkman" is essentially dead...

    Any ideas guys?

P.S. Well after some thinking, I backed up everything on it, and tried reflashing it again with v2.01 still no use.

Do I have to send it to Sony or what? It's not even 6 months old, only bought in May...

  2. Hate to admit it...but I think yes, there seems to be a loss in bass...

When I first got mine, I was quite happy about the bass(compared to my A608), but after sometimes, I started noticing a void in bass...I dont know why...I got crazy and then listened to my A608, but that was just fine...I haven't swapped the headphones and tried though

  3. there will be a problem, it's because the PCMCIA cards do not get enough power, i think their current rating is lower than USB...

Well actually when I read the problem that was the first thing I thought...

Power has no relationship with access time on the device or Windows...the only negative effect will be slower battery charge and nothing else.

  4. Well yeah, I agree the rubber seems very delicate shall we say...

The battery life simply rocks man...everyone in my college is envious of that, and that's the first thing I tell them...

When I show it to them first(Power Save Super/ Screen Off), they're like Oh, it's like the iPod Shuffle. I tell them yes, but with one major difference, and pull out the shuttle, you should just see the way their jaws drop...they're like OMG(pun...that's the old atrac extension(I think Open MagicGate), hell it aint open in anyway) and all...

A few who've got creative zen micro have to keep replacing/rechargin their AAA batteries every 10hrs or so, and I tell them I've not charged mine for 3 weeks

  5. Wow man that was a lengthy and very very descriptive post. Thanks for explaining it...

I've got an idea, would it be viable or not is the question, if it is then I'll follow it up with a practical.

When you open an atrac disc in my computer, you get a bunch of files which I assume are the SonicStage CD-Text (For the lack of better a term) and a folder in which files are named 00001.ATP or something but in numbered ascending order and with the ATP extension.

Also in Sonicstage there's an option to set where your temp files are located, using which we could just copy those ATP files into another location. But the problem arises when we try to get the Sonicstage text files, which I have no idea of how to get. Would this be possible.

What's the difference between an ATP extension ATRAC file and an OMA extension ATRAC file. Is there a possibility to know why just drag-and-drop of OMA files into a disc yields fruitless results, ultimately both of them are ATRAC anyway.

Also I am planning to try to delete the text files and only keep the Hi-MD folder and all the numbered files in it and try to play it in my CD player(It's a car player, CDX F5510X), BTW it doesn't do gapless either.
