Actually, the volume and AVLS settings should be inoperable (onm the A1000) when using line out mode. Have you definitely got Line Out set in the Audio out menu? You should use the volume control on the amp rather than the A1000. In fact in line out mode the A1000 produces a much lower signal than Hi-Fi stereo components, so your amp should be more than able to cope with it.

Indeed, it's a great price and a proven machine. I paid full price (£200) for mine last year and still think it was worth it (just about). If you do you'll probably want to upgrade to firmware version 3.0 that adds AAC support and a clock and calendar.

SS 4.0 CP is working fine for me - on 3 separate computers, including 2 laptops. In fact on one PC where SS3.4 was not working properly, installing SS 4.0 fixed everything. I'd hate to be wrong for your sake, but I'd say go ahead - take the plunge and enjoy SS 4.0...

OK thanks Stuge - that can probably do with a hack then, though my E005 actually always sounds loud enough even with AVLS on...

A volume hack would probably only be useful for European units, which are restricted due to a European Union legislation. So, does anyone know what the output of the European NW-E005 etc is, there's no indication in the manual's specification section...?
