Thanks Rob - I was thinking of doing what you did, but when I called Sony's customer support they told me that because I bought it from an individual (not a dealer), I wouldn't be covered in the exchange program (even though it was brand new).
-
many thanks Jaylen. But unless I'm missing it, I don't see any discussion on a faulty jog dial...just alot of common problems with pressing the buttons on the unit. I'll read it again just in case I'm missing it. In the end - I'll probably just have to live with using the 40ELK remote. Lesson learned: I doubt I'll purchase a new unit again from a non-authorized Sony dealer on eBay.
-
Hey thanks for your response - I do have the 40ELK working with it - so the jog dial on the unit is not a huge problem (but I'm slightly neurotic and I need everything to be perfect). I tried searching for the NH900 thread, but couldn't find it. I did find a thread related to a problem with the NH600 jog dial. That person just sent it through the Sony exchange program and got a better unit...which is not an option for me because I bought it brand new from eBay.

Hello, I just bought a brand-new MZ-DH710 and I love it - except that the jog dial only works if I press down very firmly in some spots. Has anyone else had problems with their jog dials? Can I fix it myself by opening the unit? I don't want to go through Sony to fix it... Thanks.

Here are some more facts about recording with an iRiver H120 - there is an audible "click" every few seconds or so when playing back a recording. Apparently this has something to do with the motor on the hard drive. Also - you can only record one file for a limited number of times before it stops by itself. Long recordings of things like concerts would have to be interupted to stop and then start recording again.
-
From personal experiance, I've had an iRiver H120 and an NH900 HiMD (yours, actually, Lamewing)...and the HiMD is just much more intuitive as a recorder. I haven't had ANY issues with recoding with the NH900. AND the quality is impeccable.
-
You can not edit your recordings with the iRiver. With HiMD, you can split tracks, add track marks, move them around - you can do all sorts of things that a real recorder is capable of. The iRiver is NOT a recorder (though it has some recording features).

...not to mentione the "under-the-table" deals that people engage in that cause sellers to end their auctions prematurely. I'm even guilty of one or two of these transacations

I have the iAudio X5 and I can tell you that it is one fine device. But I still love all 5 of my MD units!

Not sure about the cases, etc - but they did have actual minidiscs in the New jersey store. It's worth a shot, you never know what's gonna still be on the shelves.
-
I was in the Sony Style store this weekend and I asked the sales rep (who was surprisingly knowledgable about minidisc) said that they just shipped all their minidisc players back to Sony Corporate (they aren't carrying ANY MD players in the store at this point). When I asked him what was going on, he mentioned that they still haven't decided how they want to market the minidisc yet. He said that with the RH1, they were thinkin of calling it the "VIBE". Anyway, until SONY sorts out its marketing issue, it's not likely that the RH1 will show up anytime soon in the US. Ta ta

What a deal! Do they have Fry's on the East Coast? Lamewing - by the way, the NH900 that you sold me is still awesome - I use it all the time!

There should be a line at the bottom of my income statement: net income after minidisc purchases and acquisitions".
-
I just purchased another unit: the MZ-DH710. There's no saving me.

My Stanton st150 turntable actually has a digital-out, which I hook up to the digital-in on my NH900, and poof, instant digital recording of vinyl.

Question for all of you out there in minidisc land: Could there be some kind of addiction associated with acquiring minidisc players? Personally, once I get it in my head that I want a particular unit, I become consumed with the process of getting it - Even if there is only a slight difference between my current unit - I HAVE TO HAVE IT. Are there any other freaks out there, and is there a remedy for this condition?
-
That sucks - this is the first time I heard of them...
-
Can you please submit a picture with the RH1 side-by-side with the NH900. I'm curious, as I too have an NH900.
-
THANKS!!!! Just got mine for $60 total including shipping!
-
Marcnet - don't you think you grossly overpaid for this? Soundprofessionals.com has the RH1 for $299. Audiocubes has the remote for $79...total $378 compared to your $524.\ Are you rich and just don't care?
-
Welcome. Yes, the sound quality is a huge factor in my enthusiasm for the SONY MD portables. The recording capabilities are also very important; but, truth be told, the sound quality is what will always bring me back to SONY's MD portables.

I'd like to get this remote for my NH900 - used or new would be fine.

...well said.
