  1. Hi to ALL of You who answer my questions , ..and to those who are just reading i say "Hi" also, I decided that NO MORE will I record music in LP-4 format, ...it acctuallllly SuCks . Only LP-2, - i found extremely very little difference between Stereo and LP-2 , ...but LP-4 is much difference. I just listen to the same part of a song in Stereo , LP-2 and LP-4 ... and i was shocked how much details are missing in LP-4, ...and i'm almost "mad" at my self that i was recording and listening to music in LP4 till now, ( i have some music also in LP2 ), but i was blaming the songs for the quality difference in LP4,...never really paying attention to the format. Silly me I will use LP-4 quality only to record radio talk shows. But as to the portable Hi-MD unit that i like to buy, looks that only NH-1 has line In and Out , ... and Editing can be done on the NH-1 unit (no need for computer for editing, especially radio talk show, - to remove the commercials). The RH-10 looks OK to , but i'm not sure if Editing can be done on it. The 8 hours of recording music in LP-2 quality is very attractive propositions on Hi-MD units .......quoting Greenmachine >"With Hi-MD units you can use 1GB MDs, which can store almost eight hours in 256 kbps Hi-SP (better than LP2 quality)"<...... I like to play the portable Hi-MD via regular stereo system and I wonder only how much difference in quality of sound will be "less" when played on RH-10 via headphone jack ( and not via proper line Out like in NH-1 model ). ?? Will the difference be same as is between LP-2 and LP-4 ?? - or LP-2 and Stereo ?? ThanX
  2. Hi , -maybe this will help You - {i marked the diferences in red}. To me the RH-10 is the ONE to have for little extra $ - the only one thing i'm trying to figure out if editing is possible on the unit, ...maybe some one here will tell me that, - ThnX - Human Sony MZ-RH10 Features: 1].Large 6-Line Organic EL Display on main unit - self-emitting organic EL (electroluminescence) display can be viewed from wide angles and without a backlight 2].Multifunction Remote Control included 3].Aluminum Lid - reduces weight and increases durability Mic input and Line input - Ability to Record From Multiple Sources (Mic/Line-in) Self Recording Upload Feature - with option to save in .WAV format Digital Amplifier - More efficient - uses less energy then traditional analog amplifiers 4]. 3. Sorry to hear that man. I always buy Extended Warranty ( i buy 2 extra years - total of 3) for electronics that cost over $ 100.00 Can. [i'm in Canada], - twice i had to used it. Once 4 or 5 years ago with Sharp Mini System with build in MD , CD, Tape , AM /FM , (i don't remember the unit name any more) - it broke first time after 16 months, they send to fix it but it broke second time 3 months after that - so i got 100% full credit for it in the "London Drugs" store here in Vancouver , BC, ( chain of stores here in BC ) and i got in exchange a Sony MD deck MDS-JE 470 and some other stuff to match $ what i paid for Sharp ....and now second time with Sony portable ZS-D55 with CD, tape, AM/FM, line /in\ and /out\ RCA type , and optical line, .....really nice portable unit, but also had twice problems - first after (?) 18 months with CD , second time just 4 months ago with tape, ...and now i got credit for it from Sony Canada in BC, they are located in Coquitlam, BC (really nice customer service) and i'm looking to get a portable Hi-MD as replacement. Electronic Service people who do servicing for Sony they were trying to fix it but needed some extra parts, etc, etc., - and finally (Sony) decided to replace it. Right now Sony has NO portable units with line In and Out RCA style, etc, ect., - so I will get my self portable Hi-MD, right now i'm having fun choosing model , cause i don't use computer for music, but i think i'm close to make final decision, ....and You people here are helping me with Your comments - THANK YOU I'm drooling just thinking that I will have portable Hi-MD ..... So in my opinion the Extendable Warranty is always good investment. Wishing You GregTheRotter luck with Your CMT-SE1 , let's hope You will have to pay nothing for repair (Under the 1 year Warranty). My existing 2 year Extended Warranty is still good till March 2006, ..and I'm told that i can buy another extra 2 years, apparently it is possible to get in total 5 years of Warranty coverage, 1-st year Original Warranty form Sony, and twice x 2 years as a Extended, ....so i will buy it for sure. Ask if You can get that where You are. I was thinking several years ago that Extended Warranty is just empty sucking Off money from customers, ....but so far i like it, .....i like it a lot Cheers.
  4. ThanX to You ALL for Your ansvers Greenmachine - one more question (sorry for asking in such a way but i do not understand all those technical terms to well - but i'm getting better at it). ...........I think i'm "1GB MDs, which can store almost eight hours in 256 kbps Hi-SP (better than LP2 quality) can." .... 1].....can this be recorded with out connecting Hi-MD unit /recording via comuter, ...can I do that 256 kbps Hi-SP recording by connecting Hi-MD unit directly to a home stereo CD player ?. "Reformatted 80 min MDs (~305 MB) can hold about 140 minutes (= 2 hours and 20 minutes) of Hi-SP. LP2"" 2].....this Reformatting of 80 min MDs, has to be done using computer ??, or is this Reformatting option available on the Hi-MD unit ? I'm trying to find out recording options from a CD home stereo player using ( prefebably analogue ) line "in" and line "out" with out connecting the portable Hi-MD unit to the computer. But my Sony CMT-EX 200 mini Stereo has also CD digital OUT / it has optical plug. It has also analogue "In" and "Out" line , and right now my Sony MDS-JE 470 deck is connected to it. So when i buy portable unit i can connect that portable Hi-MD either way for recording CDs to Hi-MD. "Hi-MD units 1GB MDs, which can store almost eight hours in 256 kbps Hi-SP (better than LP2 quality)." --- this sounds extremely attractive to me, from the time (8 hours) and from the quality point of view. Only if i can do that with out connecting to the computer ?. ThanX a lot
  5. ThNX greenmachine but forgive me - i do not understand that chart. Maybe i will ask my question this way. I have Sony MDS-JE 470 deck with Stereo , Mono , LP2 and LP4 modes. And on that unit i can not record in any other mode if i like to get LP2 quality but more capacity on the 80 min regular mini disc. Now if i buy portable Hi-MD unit and would like to record on Hi-MD disc (in LP-2 quality ) record direct from a CD player, or, from my JE-470 deck - will that be possible ==>?? I do not have any music on my computer and I'm not planning to use computer to do any MD or Hi-MD recordings. I like to buy Hi-MD player /recorder unit and to record directly from CD player [via line "out-in" not via microphone] ( in minimum LP-2 quality or better ) but to be able to put more music on one disc - is this possible => ??.... and if it is possible how many hours can i get => ?? ThNX zzo much
  6. ******************* from ::: eriktous ::: quoting ::: "" The current Hi-MD recorders (including RH910 and RH10) can record in three quality settings, namely PCM (1.4 Mbps), Hi-SP (256 kbps) and Hi-LP (64 kbps). A 1GB Hi-MD disk can hold 1 hour and 34 minutes, 7 hours and 55 minutes or 34 hours respectively in those formats."" - so the answer to my question should be ::: Hi-LP (256 kbps). ==> 7 hours and 55 minutes ... YES ???
  7. ThNX , - i agree with You as to LP-4 mode and music quality. But the time available in LP4 mode is tempting. ... so in that case what is the corresponding to LP-2 set-Up in Hi-MD units (how many hours on 80 md disc) ... =>?
  8. i ThankYou ALL for ansWering previous question. I have one more .... is recording & listening to music in LP-4 considered to be dTe un-pardonable audio-sin ?? I know that it depends on dhe quality of the stereo unit and dhe speakers - but aside form tHat - is LP-4 considered to be aS prostituting of audio / of music ?? ?? Will i burn in audio hell where dhere will be no sound at all.
  9. Hi Forum Friends Sony MZ-RH10 and Sony MZ-RH910 Features: Compatible with both Hi-MD\u2122 and Standard MiniDisc media - store 13 hours of music on a standard 80 minute MD 1]. Please, can someone explain to me what kind of quality this 13 hours capacity music is, - is it the same as LP-2 or LP-4 on regular mini discs recorded on regular MD machine. 2]. Or is lesser or better music quality (like Stereo) recorded on regular machines - ( in my case on Sony MDS-JE 470 deck). 3]. And is this 13 hour music capacity option is only available on Hi-MD machines, what other portable MD models have this option and how is this option exactly called. - ?? ThNX so much
  10. dex Otaku and tasdisr THANK-U for info and for the link, that was very helpful. But i'm coming to conclusion that i should be getting in this case the NH-1 model. It has both proper line 'in' and 'out'. I got also very helpful post from Sparky191 in >RH10 review/comments + RH10 vs. NH900 pictorial!, A few things worth noting... < and one of his links was also very informative (to me):: http://forums.minidisc.org/lofiversion/index.php/t10343.html i'm also looking at Sharp IM-DR80 NetMD MiniDisc Recorder. i found on AudioCube site (for $ 300 USD)- ....it has proper speaker-Out line, but from the specs i can not figure out if has proper recording "line-in" (to record from any source, not from computer) , i just don't understand the technical terms to well in the list of Sharp options, = options that i included in my post in:: RH10 review/comments + RH10 vs. NH900 pictorial! ...i wonder if any one here has this Sharp model , and what is the opinion on it ? If i go for the NH-1 the only thing will be now to locate where i can but it. It is not that common in Canada or USA , i found it on AudioCubes site , i would prefer to buy from USA or Canada,.... i will keep searching the net or Sony stores. I like to THANK YOU ALL for taking Your time and answering my questions Have a Great days and nights surrounded by music that brings GREAT feelings to the body ...and soul
  11. Well-Versed Sparky191 THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH Actually i do not (did not) understand very well all those terms, i was kind of learning as i searched for info....and actually one of the links that You posted i did look at it but i guess i did not understood correctly. ..and maybe i made mistake in saying that i looked for hours ( at NH-1 ) i actually looked last in my search ... for perhaps 1-2 hours...but in any case You are right ...quote:::" Maybe you just don't understand any of it." --- this was the case. But i'm grateful to You - it makes clear now - so this is the unit that will do what i need. This link was very informative: http://forums.minidisc.org/lofiversion/index.php/t10343.html THANK YOU !! Now i quickly look at Sony Canada and USA web but NH-1 is not really available - one site said (in store only), but it is older model and slim chance i think, some other sites like:: ecoustics.pricegrabber.com - don't have them. So i think i will have little challenge to find it in USA or Canada. Found on AudioCubes for $400.00 USD - but not sure if it has english symbols. 1]. Maybe i can ask You Sparky191 to check for me if that Sharp IM-DR80 NetMD MiniDisc has proper "line-in" - from what i can see it has not. But knowing me i might be wrong again 2]. So i guess that even playing the RH-10 via mini portable very high quality speakers will have similar sound quality "limitations" as via regular speakers, - -or not ?- or, it will be similar power "consumption" and sound quality as headphones ? Once again ThanX Sparky You are indeed Very Well-Versed
  12. Hi tasdisr, - Sonys RH-10 has the following; Inputs: USB, Mic In, Line In (analog and optical digital), DC in 3V Outputs: Headphone/Remote/Line (1/8" stereo mini plug) I was thinking that the Output on RH-10 are kind-of design to work properly as a "line out" - / hmmm ?? U are saying "I turned the equalizer off and the volume all the way up" - is that on RH-10 , or on Your Yamaha ? ... ( i guess on RH-10 )? And how far "Up" did You have to turn the volume "Up" on the Yamaha receiver, in the percentage of max volume of 100% - how much "Up" ??...and what is the normal % volume level that You listen when playing normal Cds (not Mp3 Cds) ?? ...is it possible that when playing regular Cds sound could be better or much better, ...did You maybe by now had a chance to check this out ? I;m worrying that my plan to play RH-10 Hi-MD discs at home via regular receiver will not be good listening experience .../ hmmm ?? ...( i also have single disc CD unit ). i Appreciate any more info from You, ...ThanX
  13. IdiotSavant => super review =like the pic - it is helpful => ThanK U. I have a question [..if U know] - the NH-1 has a proper "line out" -- do U know if is possible on NH-1 to record from any source, like on RH-10 ? ...is there a proper or semi proper (dissent) "line-in" on NH-1. I'm looking for a portable MD or Hi-MD unit to be able to record radio talk shows and to play back mostly via good quality mini speakers or via regular stereo. Also i have a Sony MDS-JE 470 deck and almost 70 regular discs (74 and 80 minutes) some with music, most with radio talk shows recorded in LP-2 and LP-4 , many of them only 30- 60- % full and i like to join some of them to one MD or Hi-MD disc using portable MD. I do not plan to use computer for any recording, editing ( i do not have any music on my comp) - i like to use portable MD /or Hi-MD only as it is, and connect to out-side source, like radio , CD player to copy my CDs, or to my MD deck. I looked for many hours on the web to find out if NH-1 has proper 'line-in', or at least some kind of 'line-in' that will give good quality recording from any source (but not computer). And i also like to find out if mini-discs made on my Sony MDS-JE 470 deck will play on RH-10 or on NH-1...if any one of U know Please let me know. I guess eventually i can fire up e-mail with that question to Sony Canada, {where i live}. I found out on AudioCubes web site that Sharp IM-DR80 NetMD MiniDisc Recorder has a Speaker outputs, but don't have info yet if it has a line-in. Any-way Thank U for any more infos if any of U can share it with me . P.S. -- if it's OK i like to include an info details on that Sharp unit - maybe some of U pros can figure it out if this will be good unit for me according to my needs and what the unit has and can do. 14. Thank You eriktous for Your detailed info, it helps. I was also looking at AudioCubes site and found few interesting portable MD players / recorders, and one of them is Panasonic SJ-MR50 MiniDisc Recorder with a build-in speaker, --- I almost never listen to music via earphones or head phones, (only some times), so i like to be able to properly connect the portable MD to a good quality small portable speakers or directly to a real stereo system at my work place or when visiting friend(s) to a home stereo. - do any of You know any thing more about this Panasonic SJ-MR50 model ---??. I like the idea of build-in speaker, ( but it is not necessary if it is not decent or good quality), as i said i'm planning to get decent portable speakers, - so i can carry them with me if i go to visit friends or to take them with me to and form work every day ( do You have any suggestions on small but good sounding portable speakers as well ?) eriktous You have couple of nice machines especially the NH-900, I was reading about the NH-900 it also has a line out setting that allows the user to output the sound without any effects on the sound. There is also an analog/optical input along with a mic input. But i can not find any new ones for sale, i think this would be good choice for me, ...i think ?? Thank You ALL for helping me Please share more info if You have. Definitely i need a unit with real proper "line-in and line-out" jack- or at least to have the unit set up by factory to be compatible to play via real stereo receiver using earphone mini jack. But tasdisr in his post "connecting RH10 to stereo" said that it was quite Ok on his stereo --- but GregTheRotter did not like it. Hmmm, ??? If not, ... i will get really good portable speakers that will work nicely using headphone mini jack on the unit. But for recording to MD from "any source" [with out using computer] would be nice to have proper "line-in" jack. As to editing on the portable MD unit i could pass that and edit on my MDS-JE 470 deck (as long as the recorded on portable MD unit md's will play on both units with out problem). *** i was suggested by people on the::: www.audiotstation.com/forum::: to get the MZ-B10 or MZ-B100 model , ....but i'm not so sure about them yet. Thanks again friends
  15. Thanks tasdisr for sharing Your experience.
  16. **************************** Big Thank You eriktous and A440 for Your info. Please clarify for me this: I was thinking that when recording directly from portable CD player[or from home Stereo unit] or talk shows from radio to Hi-MD i can record in different bit rate of recording (three quality settings). Are all those three setting given by You eriktous are they also possible when recording directly from CD player or from radio via line-in jack on to Hi-MD player/recorder like MZ RH-10 model ??? In this case i would love to be able to record my CDs into Hi-MD directly (with out computer) in Hi-SP (256 kbps) 7 hours and 55 minutes - {that should be very good medium level sound quality}, --- And to record radio talk shows in the Hi-LP (64 kbps) 34 hours. That would be great for my needs. Is this combination of recording levels possible with out using computer - ?? Thank You FF {Forum Friends} P.S. quote:::"When you record through your pc you have a choice of more bitrates (including LP2 and LP4)". Are those bit rates LP2 and LP4 the same as Hi-SP (256 kbps) and Hi-LP (64 kbps) just named diferently in Hi-MD format--? 1-st./edit: A440 - yes the speed or recording my CDs via computer as suggested by You is good option - so i understand that with out computer i can ONLY record my CDs in real time -? , - also i like to record what i have on my normal Mini Discs to Hi-MD disc connecting my MDS JE 470 deck to RH 10 - ?? that would be possible of course, but do i have to do it also in real time or is there an option for speedy transfer and will i have options for different sound bit rate of recording ...let's say i have around 65 regular mini discs with radio talk shows recorded in LP4 format and i would like to transfer them to a few Hi-MDs to keep in one place and also as a back up. 2-nd./edit: when i record radio talk show to Hi-MD disc on RH-10 model - is there an option on RH-10 to do editing of recorded material, like removing radio commercials, etc., same editing opitons i have on my JE-470 MD deck--?
  17. Hi tasdisr i was thinking to get RH 910 Hi-MD but after reading comments in my post ::: "I'm thinking of getting a MZ-RH910 S model. the Pro and Cons of this model ?" - i to decided to get RH-10 And i'm also planning to play RH-10 not via headphones but via speakers in my home Stereo. tasdisr, - Please be so kind and write Your experience with the sound quality since it will be coming not via real Out line but via mini Out jack on RH-10 Thanks a lot
  18. well .... just moments ago i was reading here post /answer to my question by ::: KJ Palmer - but now this post is not here any more , - hmmm??? strange ? - in any case i will include my ansver to KJ Palmer Thanks KJ Palmer, - The Hi-MD MZ RH-10 has only this Outputs: Headphone (stereo mini). I do not have any of my CDs on computer and i'm planning to copy them to a Hi-MD disc from my home Stereo using special cable >"Shielded Y-Adapter-Stereo plug to two phono plugs"< via line-in jack and i was thinking to play that Hi-MD via my home Stereo via big speakers - via in this case Output Headphone (stereo mini jack). Will this be possible - ?? - and will the quality of sound will be quite OK , let's say as it is in LP2 - or LP4 on regular mini discs 74 or 80 minutes?. KJ, - You are saying that ::: - "No direct recording in older formats (SP,LP2/LP4,mono)". - so Hi-MD has only one (pre-set) format / quality level of recording ??? I was under impression that in the "lowest" setting quality i can record on it up to 675 songs (up to 45 hours) , ....but i was under impression that there is other recording setting level with much better sound recording quality with of-course less song capacity and i think i was told in the store with only 8 hours on Hi-MD disc. Is that correct --- any one of You knows ?? Thank You kindly. P.S..... here is what i just found moments ago in one of the posts on this Forum by Fray Adjacent Jun 9 2005, 10:40 AM Post #81 ::: " As far as the MP3s go, if you have the original CDs, and don't tend to change around what's on your discs frequently, I'd just use Simple Burner to rip straight to disc in ATRAC. Then you won't suffer any loss through transcoding". -- sounds good to me - the only question i have is this has to be done via computer or can i do it direct from CD player to Hi-MD RH-10 ? Thanks so much
  19. ThnX Damage, - Maybe You are right - that the MZ RH-10 Hi-MD is the way to go. The RH-910 i'm getting form Sony as a exchange for my Sony ZS D-55 portable Stereo with line In/Out RCA type jacks, remote controlled everything = CD , radio including cassette tape recording via remote) but that unit was in repair twice (once with CD player second time with cassette deck) - and Sony Canada here in Vancouver /Coquitlam B.C. is so nice to deal with , and they tried to fix it but the whole cassette deck is shot --- and since i could not find any similar SONY portable or even Mini System Stereo with those features and after Sony delivered at 2 different occasions two different units and me eventually returning them....... .....Sony is so nice and allowing me to switch to what i want in price range of my old ZS D-55 of $ 300.00 i paid almost 3 years ago that is on Extended Warranty ( i love Extended Warranty - also 5 years ago i had Mini Stereo System from Sharp with MD deck in it >>from London Drugs store here >>, and after almost 3 years it was breaking down [3 times] and i got exchanged for Sony MDFS-JE 470 deck - so in my opinion Extended Warranty is worth the money for sure) - so maybe i should pay extra difference and get the MZ RH-10 Hi-MD --- as You Damage are suggesting. The RH-910 cost in Canada is $ 250.can, and the RH-10 is $ 400.00 can And i think MZ RH-10 Hi-MD has a very good opinions -???- The difference for me will be of $ 100.00 and besides the backlit display it has remote control ..... ....and is black colour ==> WOOW ........ Well maybe You are right Damage. I like that both of them they have "line in jack" - so i don't have to use computer and i can record my music from CD player or from radio talk shows on Hi-MD disc and edit radio commercials. The way i plan to use this Hi-MD is to record my CDs direct from CD player and listen to it via regular stereo speakers at home or at work or to connect small mini speakers but i do not listen to music via head phones. I wonder about music sound quality on Hi-MD. So far i don't mind sound quality on my MDS-JE 470 deck recorded even in L4 format --- i wonder if sound quality will be the same (or better or lesser ) on Hi-MD if i like to record 20 or more CDs on it ?? I will look/search for threads on this Forum for info on RH-10 ....but i think it has ONLY good comments, No Cons. Thank You much )
  20. Thanks to You GregTheRotter and to dvs for Your replay. I've just got e-mail back from SonyCanada and the "S" stands for Silver as You Greg were suggesting. They said that no "B"lack" available. dvs - You are saying that it has no 'back light' , - so it is impossible to see the display at night, [must i carry mini flash light] - hmmm - ??? - Some times when i dream .... i dream of HiMD unit to have 2 small but very good high quality speakers attached [but removable] on each side of the unit, so You can carry like a cassette-walkman and listen to, or to remove the mini speakers. But the idea is not to have extra speaker cables hanging around, ect., ..... I have small portable Sony digital radio AM/FM (ICF-M 280) model, that uses 2 AA batteries [i use rechargeable Energizers] and i love this little radio with digital pre-set stations, when i listen to radio talk shows on AM i take it with me when i move around my apartment, and from my regular stereo i play back ground music from CD or from my MD-deck. Cause i must have music playing all the time when i'm home, most times (98%) when i go to sleep i leave the music playing, [many times at normal volume]. I like listening to radio talk shows {..if You chose good once >like www.coasttocoastam.com< for example, You can learn a lot of interesting stuff..} but i can't stand having no music also at the same time playing in the back ground. So to have HiMD with detachable speakers [if it was a cradle like for iPods should be small & slim /like cassette walkman\ - not bulky ] ..so You can easy carry around, . I will be looking to buy a pair of small >attached< speakers , --- any suggestions from You "FF" [ForumFriends] as to Mini- attached speakers battery and AC/DC powered with decent sound quality, ...??? Thanks so HiMDmuch Human
