Yes, the aux input will do, any of the inputs would be fine except phono. Then select Aux on your amp to play through your speakers. If you have a spare tape loop on your amp (it should say Tape1 or Tape 2 on the back with separate IN and OUT plugs), you might find that useful for recording to MD as well as playing. You'd need 2 RCA cables in that case.

Are you looking for a minisc deck or portable player/recorder? If it's a deck you just need to connect its line out to a spare line in (not phono) on your amp. You get suitable (cheap) RCA cables with the deck. If you want a portable MD unit you'll need an RCA to minijack plug connected to the MD's headphone jack.
-
It could just be your analogue cable you use for recording. It might be faulty or one end might not be pushed in to the jack fully. Or it could only be a mono cable. Any of these could lead to the one-sided effect.
-
It's best to let your batteries run down till empty before recharging, or at least until only one notch is showing, preferably when the battery indicator is flashing. Otherwise you'll shorten the battery life, or could risk overcharging it and damaging you MD.
-
If it's a single RCA-like plug and digital then it's a coaxial (electrical) rather than optical connection. You'll need a coaxial to optical converter - I'm pretty sure you could get one fairly cheaply from the likes of Radioshack, or Sound professionals have one here: http://www.soundprofessionals.com/cgi-bin/...gi?category=580

Even classical music sounds OK in LP2. LP4 really should only be used for speech applications - language courses, lectures, radio shows and the like. I have a few LP4 music disks and it becomes unbearable after a while.

You can 'upload' onto a PC or CD burner, but only in real time. In effect you are making a recording of your recording. You don't need any special equipment, just an appropriate analog cable connected to a line in, and recording software for a PC. If you have a deck with digital out you can record digitally (better quality) on a CD recorder or PC with digital in.

You'll need NiMH's with a higher capacity (eg. 1700mAH) to get anywhere near 50+ hours. And you need AA's, not AAA's.
-
You'll get a maximum of 20 hours with the supllied NiCd rechargeable battery. Probably a bit less as Sony's figures are based on ideal, non-realistic conditions. The '56 hours' are based on non-rechargeable (probably alkaline) batteries like Duracell. Both these figures are based on playback of LP4 disks. LP2 and SP playback times are reduced accordingly. (LP4 is the worst quality/longest time on a disk, LP2 is good quality/medium time. SP is best quality/shortest time per disk). The supplied earphones are the in-ear type, one line to each ear. They're also cheap, nasty and uncomfortable and should be replaced by something better asap. A 74 minute disk will record up to 296 (=4x74) minutes of music, ie. in LP4 mode.

You've probably got LP Stamp set to Stamp On. You need to change this in the menu to Stamp Off, otherwise each title has the characters LP: added to the front of it. It only shows up on Non-MDLP players so you know why it's not playing.

What's the diff between a MD deck and a MD Micro System?
KJ_Palmer replied to merethrond's topic in Minidisc
A deck should used as part of a separates system - typically an amplifier and speakers plus CD plus other components of your choice mixed and matched to make the 'ideal' sytem. Potentially the best sounding system, but costly, space consuming and needing plenty of tweaking to get it right. You can also use a deck with a standard hi-fi if it has aux inputs. As Mystyler says, a micro (or minisystem) does it all in one convenient box. Micros can sound good, don't need much setting up or space, and have handy features like hi-speed recording and timer recording eg. from the radio. -
Don't use a cleaner unless absolutely necessary, ie. none of your discs play, or your lens is visibly covered in dust. Even then, first try wiping the lens with a cotton bud dipped in isopropyl alcohol. MD lens cleaners just shift dirt around, and the brushes can potentially scratch the lens when dirty.

is my mz-g750 a good md or is it a piece of junk
KJ_Palmer replied to a topic in Technical, Tips, and Tricks
It's a very good machine. Mine's been working faithfully for nearly 2 years now. Even without the tuner it would be great. OK, can't quite match the features of the latest MD's, but nearly could do with the MZ-R700 hack. The ATRAC version on it is slight old hat, but for a portable it won't make that much difference. The G750 certainly isn't junk (if it still works), but there are newer 'better' units out there of course. -
Is it possible to record using microphone with MZ-505?
KJ_Palmer replied to a topic in Live Recording
If you're competent with electronics, you can of course rig yourself an amplifier and use the n505's line in. For the more electrically inept (such as myself) the easiest option would be to buy a battery box or mic pre-amp. These can be obtained from soundprofessionals.com, amongst others. Or get the N707... -
The N505 would do just fine, as presumably you're going to be recording using a line connection. You might want to consider using a 20dB attenuator to avoid overloading the recorder's line input.
-
Sorry to hear that. Thanks for all the good work! Hope you're feeling better soon...
-
Unfortunately you have a player, whereas you need a recorder to record music. Depending on your needs I'd suggest something like the Sony MZ-N505 or Sony MZ-N707. Either that or you'll have to use pre-recorded MD's or ask an MD recorder-equipped friend to do your recording for you.

It's here: http://www.minidisc.org/manuals/sony/servi...vice_manual.pdf

I believe there's a way of faking 'stereo' from mono recordings, by introducing a phase difference between left and right channels or something. Must be some software that does this, if you're interested.

The standard remote functions work (play, skip, etc.) but not the radio - no power .
-
Can you get it now, Babbel? I forgot to mention that it doesn't work with a remote plugged in!
-
(From memory) You can get it from the normal using the standard buttons. Go to the Audio Out item in the menu and change from Headphones to Line Out.

1. In order to sell 'higher spec' machines at higher prices. 2. Personally, no (on R500, G750 as well as N707). Others, I think have entered wrong settings. 3. Yes, or should be, if you enter the original settings. 4. No, unless you enter the wrong settings. Most extra things work perfectly and you don't lose anything. 5. You need the LCD remote. pressing display for more than 2 seconds takes you to the speed control menu.
-
Yes indeed, to get the best (purest) signal, turn off your sound settings and turn your volume up to max. Or, to make it even easier, and if you're feeling brave you could try The Wild N707/N505 hack: http://forums.minidisc.org/viewtopic.php?t=72

Well, I'll keep hold of my JE-640 as well, because of the missing features on the 980. It's not a problem, actually, as I do a lot of MD-MD dubs, and will save some wear and tear on the 980 :? .
