I feel like a marriage just ended. HELP! If anyone could find a red one, I might faint.

I honestly don't think ATRAC is what's keeping the masses away from Sony. Most of the people who know ATRAC exists or have heard of Sonic Stage's pitfalls are tech geeks. At least, that is the case for the U.S. market, and based on iPod's market share, I am guessing it may be truer to a lesser extent for many territories. I think Sony's problem is much simpler. There is an established behemoth in the DAP market already, it is associated with fashionability, and Sony continues to follow it generation after generation with players that generally begin to look more like it and have never done a single thing it doesn't do. What's really the incentive to buy a Video Walkman, putting aside knowledge of the software quirks we all mourn? It's funny and almost embarrassing that we are excited about a years-late introduction of such a feature as video and picture support. I can't imagine the general population, less inclined toward Sony zealotry, is salivating over the idea of replacing what they already own, know, and like for something with the same features (MINUS a few) and the added elements of the unknown. Truly, Sony is betraying its own mantra, "like no other," as ironically as possible and giving great cause to the famous maxim "Why reinvent the wheel?" That's all Sony is doing, reinventing the wheel. Apple, Creative, Microsoft, Toshiba, and a host of other companies have carried video for at least 1.5 years now. Sonic Stage surely will not compete with the video selection of Apple. All of this is really to say that before functionality becomes the main issue hampering Sony, it has to build products people would otherwise want in the first place. This is the first player in two generations that won't be outmoded upon arrival, though it's quite dated itself compared to the Zune and the upcoming Iphone. Arguably, it's behind the gigabeat too. There is no built-in FM radio here. This is another failure waiting to happen commercially. I am sure I will be excoriated, but I'm comfortable with that assessment. I'll probably buy the first 20-gigabyte one myself, but I don't expect Sony to be competitive until it gets actual vision. Forget mere drag-and-drop and software bugs as contributors to solving anything.

I will bookmark this. Thanks. This should work, too. I copied the OMGAUDIO folder to my hard drive, then opened each individual folder containing ATRAC files and imported them in SS.

I actually figured it out, but thanks for your help, navsimpson.

With all these views and no posts, I really feel like crap.

My hard drive was wiped clean, and I had over 10,000 songs on it. Is there any way to copy them back from the player to my SonicStage directory? Any help would be immensely appreciated.

The hard drive in the NW-A3000 is a 20 gig hard drive, but a portion of the memory is obviously required to run and manage the device. Therefore, users are left with 18. whatever gigs of usable space. In order to have 20 gigs of usable space, one would, in short, need a hard drive with more than 20 gigabytes in total capacity.

In my experience, better headphones can make it more tolerable. My ATRAC collection is pretty much all lower bitrates, as I have an extraoardinarily large music collection. I wish I had stored them at a higher bitrate for my HD5. MiniDisc works better, for whatever reason.

I have an HD5. I cannot understand why someone would sell off an HD5 for one of those clunky things you can't see in the sunlight. I have heard the HD5 sounds better, but have not heard A3000. I frankly think MiniDisc handles lower bitrates better than the HD5.

A new HDD NETWORK (We MD users are equal Walkman owners. lol) Walkman is a weighty undertaking that requires considerations beyond color and, sadly, even riding the coattails of the video wave. Sony is not just below first place, but it also has drastically fallen short in the race for second place, currently held by Creative. - A color LCD screen is a necessity; OLED looks downright archaic. Plus, the style factor soars to new heights with image viewing. - Linear PCM Recording is no draw, as this would essentially court a niche audience in much the same way Hi-MD does. Hi-MD, as you may know by now, was no mainstream success and is now available only on Sony's professional audio site in the U.S. Limited voice recording is all that is necessary; it's perfect for catching a few class lectures here and there. - Sony must allow for video playback. This is the arena in which digital downloads are rapidly expanding. It is the latest advance in download service use, and people would appreciate the option itself. - Sony must use a jog dial. It's more convenient and decreases the likelihood of fat-fingering. - Sony MUST provide more than 20 gigabytes of space, given that it presumes to court the MP3-using base now. People will need more capacious players. - Sony MUST make a smaller, lighter, less awkwardly shaped player. It should preferably be smaller than the HD5, actually. It should also have an all-metalic case. - Sony MUST provide variety in the look of its players as a draw against the Ipod, which is extroardinarily formulaic. - Sony MUST provide an AM/FM Tuner. This would be vastly appreciated and would distinguish the device from Ipod very clearly. - A low-quality camera function may not be a bad idea. - The return of the replaceable battery is a must. - The player must be released and marketed en masse. - Sony should actually offer flash-based and hard-drive models. - Drag and drop and the ability to work without Sonic Stage ought to be adopted asap. - Digital Amplifier - Line-out - A hold function that actually prevents battery drainage. - A charging cradle would actually be nice - A complement to MD Simple Burner would actually be fascinating, but would require that Sony lift its DRM restrictions enough for direct transfer between devices or, at least, from a device to the computer. No one wants to be wedded to the same unit forever. - The player ought to come PACKAGED with the RM-MC40ELK remote for added usability and otherworldly convenience.
