Hi-SP@256 is DEFINITELY better that SP@292.
-
Just to clear things up. If you want to use SS34, you must remember that the RH1 will work ONLY with the release supplied with it (3.4.02). Releases available for download from this forum or from some older SONY sites (3.4.01) do not include a driver for the RH1 (NETMD052.SYS). But any release of SS40 includes the driver for the RH1, and the unit will work fine with it. I would advice installing SS40 in any case. But remember - you will not be able to install an earlier version after having upgraded your database to SS40.
-
You must also remember that using a cable designed for a lower voltage may lead to cable breakdown by a higher voltage. Or not.
-
The cord from your stereo system will work just fine.
-
Looks like the adaptor itself is fine for use in India (check the adaptor - it must have 100-240 V printed on its case). But I would advice you to replace the cord with the one designed for 220 V and your wall socket. It looks like the adaptor uses a standard cord socket (albeit a bit strange one). One word of caution though. Do not buy cheap imitations - get a good 220 V cord from a reliable store.

Uninstallers of Roxio and Nero do not always remove their drivers. This may cause various conflicts (Roxio and Nero cannot coexist successfully, to start with). Try this clean tool from Nero: http://www.nero.com/nero7/eng/Driver_Clean...tryChecker.html Do not forget to reboot your computer afterwards.

Looks like the unit needs to be serviced. Or replaced.

The only way to get a TRUE SP on an MZ-RH1 is to record in reatime via optical in (or whatever input it has). Enjoy!

There are no new bitrates in SS40 as compared to SS34. Unfortunately. Hacking did not help.
-
Somehow I don't think that codecs were really improved. 192 kbps was already quite good in SS34.
-
The original subject has changed its direction (see post #18 on this page).

As has been said many times elsewhere, there is no such thing as an SP download. SS converts the file into LP2, and feeds this file into the unit. The unit itself recodes it into SP. It is this process that takes so much time. Downloading in SP is USELESS, since you will get lower than LP2 quality.
-
Select a whole album, then right click and Convert, if you want it to be gapless.
-
Upload as PCM. Transcoding to Hi-SP does shift trackmarks by up to 400 ms. This is a SS ATRAC3plus encoder problem. See details here: http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showt...=15773&st=0

MZ-RH10's DAC+ATRAC+processor+stuff+crap: CXD2681-225GG MZ-RH1's DAC+ATRAC+processor+stuff+crap: CXD2687-001GG Both chips are SONY (ifyouknowwhatimean). Enjoy! Don't make yourselves happy with 24-bit resolution. There isn't.

Read this http://www.minidisc.org/md_whathifi3-99_comments.html for a start.

It's actually quite hard to find out. Google does not help, except that it finds that this is a low-power ADC intended for portable devices.
-
Well, I don't know. Check the service manuals of the devices you are interested in. Or do you mean other (non-[Hi]MD) format devices? That's a really interesting question. I won't be surprised if this chip is used in some professional recording equipment.
-
Revisions also appear to be the same. AK5356VN-L in both cases.
-
The MZ-RH10 (and probably the MZ-RH910) also has this ADC chip.

COMPLETELY REMOVE SS and all related stuff using Add/Remove programs. This MUST include the SS itself, Open MG Secure Module and any other "Open MG"-related crap. Restart your computer everytime the uninstaller asks you to. Delete the drivers (look carefully, there must be 6 or 7 of them in system32\drivers, though NETMD052.sys may be absent - this is a driver for MZ-RH1). Clean the registry. Delete all SS settings files and databases (you will lose all your music that is imported in SS). Restart your computer again. The exact removal procedure (somewhat oudated, but still usable) is here: http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=8071 but DO NOT BACKUP your database - it is already corrupt after the downgrade. I would also suggest using a tool such as Registry Mechanic to perform a thorough registry cleanup. Then reinstall SS. P.S. WMP11 has been reported to be a source of some problems with SS. I do not have the exact details though.
-
Well, the database has to be deleted (not backed up) when downgrading.
-
SS40 installs new drivers. These are not removed during SS40 uninstallation. Probably SS34 is not able to work with them. So, unplug your device, uninstall SS completely (look for instructions in this forum or MDCF), then go to C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS (or C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS, if you have Windows 2000), and manually remove the following files: NETMD031.sys NETMD033.sys NETMD052.sys NETMDUSB.sys SonyMSDK.sys SonySDK2.sys SonyUSBF.sys Be very careful not to remove any other files there, or else the system may never start again! Then restart your computer, and reinstall SS34.

Glad to hear that you've solved your problem!

Does Device Manager show any "unknown devices"? In any case try reinstalling/upgrading audio drivers and/or DirectX.
