Cool, I just wanted to make sure that I wasn't getting cheated on my overseas purchase. Thanks for clearing that up for me! :-)

While on the subject of RH-1's. Are the Silver Japanese units supposed to come with a blank Hi-MD disc? Because the new silver RH-1 unit that I just bought didn't come with one.

Thanks everyone for the heads up on this matter regarding to the retiring or possible retiring of the RH1/MD format (just ordered my second RH1 the other day). For me, the RH1 has proved to be an exceptional tool in the classroom environment. Even when I sat in the back of the class, the recorder/mic picked up every word my professors made clear as a bell. I even managed to sell enough in-class lectures to my fellow classmates to cover the cost of the unit. ;-)

My main gripe with the MD format was lock where you can not upload analog recordings. When NetMD format was released, it should have supported analog uploading from the get go. It’s a shame that it took Sony this long to realize this. None the less, I’m glad that they finally implement the ability to upload analog recordings in all formats. I’m glad I bought the RH-1. The RH-1 is quite possibly the best sounding portable I’ve ever listened to. I even convinced two friends to pick up a RH-1. Initially I bought the RH-1 strictly for uploading NetMD recordings but now I use it for everything from music listening to recording classroom instruction. RobA: Every MD Recorder/Player sucks if it doesn’t have Mega Bass, a jog dial or isn’t a MZ-RH10.... I want Mega Bass and I want it now...... ^^^^^^^^

That's what I did.

As mentioned above all you get is a micro fiber bag which helps with dust and scuff marks. I would recommend custom cutting a screen protector for the EL display on the unit. Unfortunately due to the fact that the display readout is tinted black, fine scratches easily show up on the unit. Placing a screen protector will help to protect it. Typically you are looking at a 30-70% increase in transfer rates. Transferring data onto the RH1 is much faster than the 1st and 2nd gen HiMD units.(Note: see below link) The battery run quotes are fairly close to real world estimates. I did find the record time to be slightly off by 30 minutes or so. If you are considering purchasing the RH1, below are a few things it excels at. -Transferring of old MD and MDLP recordings to the PC. -Provides long record times under battery power(my old MZ-N707 only had a 4 hour record time). -High quality audio inputs. -Accurate reproduction of sound. -Better MP3 playback over 1st and 2nd gen units. I've had my RH1 for little over a week now and I am very satisfied with the unit. I was a little leery about picking up the unit at first, but I have come to enjoy the quality and ease of use it provides. MDCenter did a very good job at evaluating the RH1. Be sure to check out the below link. http://www.mdcenter.nl/redirect.php?file=h...h1/index_en.php

Man, you can't kid around anymore. More commonly known as a "choke". The Ferrite cores are an effective means to remove EMI/RF line noise when connecting other devices/components to the RH1. If you are planning on recording via Mic or Line-in, then I would highly recommend using them.
-
OK Class, please turn to page 10 in the Sony MZ-RH1 Operating Instructions booklet. While you're checking out what the ferrite cores are for. Be sure to completely read through the manual.

I just found a reputable company selling RH1's for $258 US Dollars. http://www.pagecomputers.com/store/product...ct%5fid=1092308 The site lists the RH1 as "Back Ordered". I'm curious to see if the retailer will receive more stock. I might pick up one more RH1 if the price sticks.

How hard are you pressing down on the corner of the unit? I pressed down on mine during a read and I didn't hear anything. I'm sure any certain degree of force being applied to the RH1 or other MD recorders is bad. I noticed this also. Hold the unit vertically in your hand and use your thumb to change tracks. You will notice that it responds equally in both directions.

SP told me that they completely sold out of their initial shipment. It was mentioned by the sales rep that the second shipment will contain enough units to meet their current orders(as of the 26th of June). Lets not forget that this weekend is Independence Day weekend(a long one at that). So it might be until after tuesday that you will get it.

Thanks for posting the pics raintheory. Mine finally came in the other day. I love the quality of the RH1. The disc load/eject action is perfect for the unit. Also the gray microfiber pouch Sony included is a nice touch.

Nice write up PWS! After listening to the RH1 for a little over two days, I have to say that this unit is "THE BEST" Minidisc unit ever released. The difference in audio quality of the RH1 is light years ahead of my old NetMD unit (excellent audio accuracy and fidelity). The NetMD upload feature is a true blessing in disguise. I only wish that Sony would have implemented this feature when the NetMD's first came out. Will you please give up on your relentless questions for "Mega bass"? This unit was meant to satisfy the MD enthusiast, audiophiles and musicians. It was not meant to satisfy the teenage lust for bass, bass and more bass. Both you and "Roba" are criticizing the RH1 for all the wrong reasons.

I ordered mine in June and it arrived on the 29th. For those that have not received their unit from Sound Profesionals, what shipping method did you select? I did notice an odd thing about the email notifications from SP. All the emails are blank with an attachment called "noname". I downloaded the attachment, scanned it for viruses and opened it in a text editor. Long and behold there was my invoice and shipping notification. Maybe some of you need to take a closer look at those emails.

Some one quick, call the doctor! This one has a pulse! I've been a linux user for 8 years now, but now I'm thinking about making the jump to FreeBSD. So far it has been the best decision I've ever made. As "streaml1ne" noted it's a: -Stable and secure operating environment -efficent on resources -Virtually immune to virus attacks (must be in root to do any harm) -Rarely ever have to reboot -Easy to configure once your over the learning curve(fairly large one at that) -IT'S FREE, unlike windows For beginners you might want to look into a CD based distro's like "knoppix". That way you can get a feel for Linux before you follow through with installing it on your system.

Lucky dog. If you can, post up some usage pictures.

I just ordered a RH1 and I'm concerned about the lifespan of the OLED display on the unit. After a little research it looks like the display technology doesn't have a long lifespan. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oled Has anyone had any problems with their OLED display on their HiMD(RH1, RH10 and ect.)?
-
interesting indeed... I guess he gave one of us a estimate of units ordered. Like you, I hope it ships out on wed or thurs when the new shipment comes in.
-
You and 60+ others. Today I called SP to place an order for a RH1 also. Sound professionals told me that they have enough stock to meed the pre-order demand. Non pre-orders will be on old hold until another shipment arrives later this week. Man I can't until mine arrives. I will finally be able to upload all my original NetMD recordings(60+ 74-80 minute discs).

Thanks for the link. I think I will wait for the RH1 to be released in the States. My main concern is weather or not Sony will release the recorder in the US market. The fact that I can upload my MDLP recordings to file via sonicstage is reason enough to pick up the unit. Sure the unit may suffer from a small display size, but I'm used to using a small display on my MZ-N707.

In the next month I am planning on upgrading my MZ-N707 to the newer Hi-MD format. Right now there are three recorders that caught my attention and those are: Sony MZ-RH10 Sony MZ-RH910 Sony MZ-RH1 (currently unreleased to the US market) Should I wait for the MZ-RH1 or buy the MZ-RH910/MZ-RH10 before they are no longer on the market? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
