Is burning to CD or DVD not an option? That's what I'm planning to do with all those recorded .wav files that I will (yeah right) get around to editing and going through one day.
-
ok, downloaded.. I'll install and work with probably sometime over the next few days. While we're on the subject of software, anything else good for Hi-MD users and Macs?
-
Where's the best place to download the software? I got my Mac up and running. I have done some recordings with my Minidisc that I want to import too. I don't feel like going downstairs and finding my RH1 box though with all the software
-
I'll be able to tell you soon. I have my new refurbished 15" 2.2ghz MacBook Pro w/ a Leopard drop in disc on the way and it should be arriving tomorrow. Once I get it, I'll be pulling some stuff off of my minidiscs onto it. I'll post my updates to this thread in case you want to subscribe to it or anything.

Looks cool. Although I'm really not handy at all. If I was, I'd def look into this (and this too - http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=740215 - converting cat 5 cables into speaker wire for my new 7.1 receiver. How would this compare to the mini battery module that I bought from soundprofessionals? http://www.soundprofessionals.com/cgi-bin/.../item/SP-SPSB-2

Stand-up recording coming Friday - advice needed
srizvi1 replied to pepper's topic in Live Recording
This topic would be great if it was merged with the other stand up comedy thread that I had started over here: http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=15910 -
I got my RH1 mainly to do recording with and then move to content to my HD. I don't really archive anything on Minidiscs so it doesn't matter to me if it's flash or minidisc, as long as it's something capable of bringing in high quality recordings.

advice noted. Thanks nathan

Newbie looking for advice on multi-track recording
srizvi1 replied to tputland's topic in Live Recording
this is yet another thread I wonder what happened in. no feedback from tputland. -
this is a pretty cool thread. I'm going to bookmark it and keep it in mind for when I need to mic up something similar. gregk, how did this work out? did you get to implement A440 & GuitarFxr's advice?
-
I've never really had a reason to record in Mono - I just leave my settings on PCM. Would I ever have a reason to record in Mono?
-
i'm fine with my http://www.soundprofessionals.com/cgi-bin/gold/item/SP-BMC-2, but I'm bookmarking this thread for the future. $850 mics? I didn't even know they existed
-
Software issue from yesterday? Was that in another thread? If so, can we maybe merge this thread and that thread together?

Recording Stand up / Stand-up comedy - Best Minidisc Solution?
srizvi1 replied to srizvi1's topic in Live Recording
Thanks for the advice A440. Once I get my Minidisc setup in full swing again, I'll follow this. Shahryar -
I'd be interested in this too. I got some good advice from A440 on adjusting recording levels on my MZ-RH1 over here in the standup thread (http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=15910). But now I have a lot of stand up recordings who's sound might be a little too low.

Recording Stand up / Stand-up comedy - Best Minidisc Solution?
srizvi1 replied to srizvi1's topic in Live Recording
Haha.. thanks for the feedback Guitarfxr. I'll be uploading some more clips soon. Since May, my Sound Professionals Mini battery module seems to have crapped out and I haven't gotten around to looking into getting it fixed. I finally just sent soundprofessionals an email. Hopefully it's something simple - a part of me is scared that it could be something like the line in of the Minidisc recorder (how could I check that?) Once I get my minidisc recorder back, I'll start posting more clips again. I still can't figure out how to get volume louder. Maybe with the line-in there's no volume control? The sound is definitely richer from the minidisc than the built in mic on my camera, but it's also quieter. Shahryar -
Hey Quintron, Are you looking for mini mic/mini battery module solutions? When I bought my Sony MZ-RH1, I got a lot of my advising from A440 over in this thread: I went with Sound Professionals, however, as of right now, it seems that my mini battery module may have crapped out. I felt their customer service was good presales so I'm hoping their support is good post sales. I just dropped them an email letting them know whats up with the mini battery module. Let's see what happens (hopefully it's the mini module and not something more serious like the input of of the MZ-RH1 having gone bad). And you said you want to stay $200 - I was definitely under that price.. here's my total for the MZ-RH1, the omnidirectional microphones, and the mini module: >>>>>>>>>> Purchase Order #: >>>>>>>>>> Order Date: 2007-03-08 11:23:57 Items ordered: >>>>>>>>>> >>>>>>>>>> Quantity: 1 >>>>>>>>>> Item: SONY-MZ-RH1 >>>>>>>>>> Price: $327.00 >>>>>>>>>> Description: SONY MZ-RH1, MZRH1 - NOW IN STOCK - FREE MICROPHONE >>>>>>>>>> INCLUDED >>>>>>>>>> (SELECT IN DROP-DOWN BOX) - $69 RETAIL VALUE! Recording Stand up / Stand-up comedy - Best Minidisc Solution?
srizvi1 replied to srizvi1's topic in Live Recording
I didn't have any luck with this last Wednesday when I tried. Also, the sound was just coming in too low at just 1 block to 2 blocks on the meters. I connected to the mic input instead of the line inand I was getting real strong mic activity. I'm going to post some of the sound from there on here a little later on. Is it even possible to control mic volume on line in on the RH1? maybe this is strictly for the mic input.. although, I couldn't really figure out how to control recording volume on there neither. -
Recording Stand up / Stand-up comedy - Best Minidisc Solution?
srizvi1 replied to srizvi1's topic in Live Recording
Thanks Guitarfxr. I come to this forum mainly looking for sound advice and suggestions, but I wouldn't mind feedback on my stand up as well. Actually, the video I posted above is quite significant for me. It's from the Funniest federal employee contest here in Washington DC (official site: funniestfed.com) that's been going on since early May. I was in the 1st round, and with the set I did on that date (from which the video is), I advanced to the semi finals which are happening tonight. Normally, comedy contests put together by local comedians or comedy clubs aren't too big a deal, but this one got a lot of press for its concept. So there's a clip of me also up at Kaiser Permanente's contest site - funnyfeds.com (Kaiser permanente is an official sponsor) and also at the Washington Post's website too. Last Sunday, there was an article about us and this contest: Here's a link to the article if you're interested in reading: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/artsa...ny/gallery.html If you like me (or any of the other comedians), you can vote for one of us there too. Here's the link to the poll: http://polls.washingtonpost.com/cgi-bin/mu...unniestfed.poll (Sweet, At the current time of this writing, I'm in the lead ) But hey, if anyone can help give me advice on volume control with the MZ-RH1 sooner rather than later, it would be much appreciated because tonight I'm recording the semifinals and would like to get perfect sound. -
Recording Stand up / Stand-up comedy - Best Minidisc Solution?
srizvi1 replied to srizvi1's topic in Live Recording
Hey guys, I Wanted to upload a new video from the Funniest Federal Employee contest here in the DC area - as well as some sound exports. This edition of the sound exports is going to suck a bit though because (I think at least - it's been a while since this event happeed) my line in battery module was acting up so I couldn't use it for my set. But I do have another .wav export from the minidisc from earlier in the show when (again, if I remember correctly - it's been a while) my battery module was ok. So there's a few things to compare here. Let me know what you guys think. Also, does anyone have any idea how to get volume control when recording? I can't figure it out on my MZ-RH1. Video: R1C.COM/samples/shahryar-funniestfed-round1.mov Audio: These links are dead - I have to find and reupload them. http://www.r1i-bin/shahryar-funniestfed-ro...ject-export.wav http://www.r1i-bin/shahryar-funniestfed-ro...disc-export.wav Extra Audio (from earlier in the show when I believe the battery line in module was connected correctly and working ok): http://www.r1i-bin/rob_to_john_mumma_to_jeff_mauer.wav -
I wonder if this advice will apply to the MZ-RH1. I've been recording with it a few times now mainly to record stand up (check out this thread that I'm mainly a part of: http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=15910 ) and was hoping to do some recording level adjustment as I noticed the volume sounds low.

No offense taken Guitarfxr. I'm not handy at all, and I'm really looking for the easiest route here. That's why I'm leaning towards the Rode boompole even over your suggestion of the monopod because I can just then get everything in one place (from b&h photo), and I know for sure with the Rode Videomic at least, it'll be easy mounting. They key thing I just need now before placing the order is to know what mount I would need for the AT822 and my camera. I have a Sony HC1 camera and know I will need this piece: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1332...Shoe_Mount.html and that will be all I need to mount my Rode Videomic to my camera. But to mount a AT822, (0according to Doughie over at the sonyhdvinfo.com forums, specifically within this thread: http://sonyhdvinfo.com/showthread.php?p=55761 ), I will need certain shockmounts and thats what I'm trying to figure out. I hope this mount is all that would be needed for the Rode Boompole too. Oh, by the way, King, over that same link I just posted, someone talks a bit about using the Zoom H4 so I thought that might be worth checking out since you're so interested in that.
-
Thanks for all your help guys. I still haven't placed my order yet because I'm waiting to figure out the shockmount related stuff I need for the AT822. With the Rode, I don't think I need anything really to mount to camera and boompole. The Rode should be good to go right out the box for mounting on these two items. The AT822 on the other hand I believe I need to get some extra stuff for to mount on a boompole or camera. Yep, I saw that on the AT822 detail page here over on the Audio-Technica site: http://www.audio-technica.com/cms/wired_mi...33dc/index.html The accessories furnished section says windscreen. It also says it comes with a 10' cable. But I should still get that extra headphone extension cable right? Advice to how long? Another 10ft.er? Now the good news is that the Rode Boompole is back in stock over at B&H Photo Video. So that's now an option again. With the monopod and screw adaptor suggestion Guitarfxr just gave, I wouldn't need to worry about a shock mount for the boom pole right? I only need to worry about a shock mount IF I go with the Rode Boompole? Is there any benefit to having both Guitarfxr's suggestion of the tripod and the Rode Boompole? Or should I really just get one or the other? Since I don't have a painters pole, I'll hold off on doing my own build. I'd rather go with something made for this purpose. I'll probably get a boom mic stand too one day, but for now, hopefully with the boompole and/or monopod solution I'll be good. but if I go with the Rode Boompole for my Rode Videomic, I wouldn't have to worry about this right? Should be an easy simple mount without an adapter being necessary? Thanks for chiming in A440 (by the way, do keep an eye on the minidisc for recording stand up thread. I'm using your recommended set up and will be posting a lot of recordings and stuff I get from it. I'd love to get your occasional feedback and further suggestions). With the windscreen issue being taken care of (since the AT822 comes with one), I don't have to worry about this now. But I'll keep this link handy for future use. As I get more and more into audio, I'll probably be able to appreciate what these guys offer more. As you guys can probably tell from this thread, I'm very unfamiliar with audio right now.
-
Hey Guitarfxr, you got any links for these suggestions you just posted? pref at B&H photo so I can just add everything on to my order.
-
Thanks for the final pre-purchase comments King Ghidora. If you wouldn't mind, I need help with one last thing. Would you mind helping me figure out the accessories I need for the AT822? I made a little bit of a complex post over here: http://sonyhdvinfo.com/showthread.php?p=55543#post55543 After Doughie first brought it up. One of the plus things to the Rode Videomic is that it mounts pretty easily because it comes with shockmounts. However, with the AT822, I'm trying to figure out what all I need. As an AT822 owner, could you tell me? Here's what my final order is looking like as of right now with B&H Photo: 1) Bescor VB-50 Universal Shoe Mount Adapter MFR #VB50 • B&H #BEVB50 Our Price: $9.95 2) Rode Wind Muff Rode Wind Muff - NTG-1/NTG-2 more info MFR #DEADCAT • B&H #RODC Our Price: $39.00 3) Rode Stereo Mini Male to Stereo Mini Female Cable - 10' Rode Stereo Mini Male to Stereo Mini Female VideoMic Cable - 10' more info MFR #VC1 • B&H #ROVC1 Our Price: $10.99 4) Audio-Technica AT822 - Stereo Microphone Audio-Technica AT822 - Cardioid Stereo Condenser Microphone more info MFR #AT822 • B&H #AUAT822 Our Price: $249.00 5) Rode VideoMic - Camera Mounted Shotgun Microphone Rode VideoMic - Camera Mounted Shotgun Microphone with Integrated Shock ...more info MFR #VM • B&H #ROVM Our Price: $149.00 Here's where my problem comes in though. with the boompole, I see that the Rode Boompole - is $72 at B&H Photo, but they're out of stock. When I saw this, I emailed soundprofessionals.com (where I bought my minidisc player from) and they said they would match the price if I was to place my pretty big order with them, but the problem is that all the Rode pieces are special orders for them that they have to wait 5 days themselves to get before they can ship to me. So I'm kind of stuck here, unless B&H Video's got another good boompole comparable to the Rode one in function and price.
