  1. I still use cassettes myself, along with my MDs, and even a SD card recorder. It all depends upon the situation and what I intend to do with the recording. I like the analog warmth of cassette, and my recorder has the all-important pitch control wheel and tape speed selector, which I use to play around with my field recordings. I still prefer using MD for music most of the time. I'll concur with your disappointment at the lack of continued support for MD technology. I'm keeping mine for as long as I can, though.
  2. I'm not sure what generation the M100 is, but it plays .mp3s just fine.

Yes, congrats. These Hi-MD recorders are the best of the lot I say. I find the Sound Professionals SP-SPSM-1 stereo T-mic to be better than the ones that come with the Sony Hi-MD recorders. The SP-SPSM-1 has a wider frequency response, detachable windscreens, a spring-loaded plug for reduced metal fatigue over repeated mounting/dismounting and almost no handling noise, so you may want to look into that one.
  4. I have an SP-303 and a microKORG that I would like to interconnect with each other, my M100 and my computer. I'd like to send and recieve audio between the two instruments and my PC and send a mixdown to MiniDisc as well as my computer's HDD. I'd also like to use only one mic for the sampler and the synthesizer's vocoder, rather than having to plug one into each port. How do I do this and what mixer should I use? Would the Behringer Eurorack UB1204-PRO work for this? Any help would be welcome. TYIA

Somebody managed to put their MD player inside their desktop PC, as seen in this video on YouTube. LINK:
  6. I didn't notice any anomolies while playing back MP3s on my M100. They were transfered to disc using the Standard transfer mode option in SonicStage.

That's why I'm not going to be buying one of those new hard disk drive camcorders; can't swap out the storage medium in field. No thank you. I'll stick to my MiniDiscs and MiniDV cassettes. Woe to the person who suddenly finds their camcorder's HDD crashed on them, or runs out of space on it... EDIT: Speaking of which, maybe Sony will someday dust off their MD camcorder idea and upgrade it to Hi-MD format, and introduce higher capacity Hi-MD discs to go along with it. Not bloody likely to happen, but one can dream.
  8. Greetings fellow M100 user! Recently got mine a few days ago. My only experience with radio journalism was engineering a podcast for Golden Tiger Studios (they do computer game modifications), and I'm no professional in this field so you may take my advice with a grain of salt if you want. What kind of broadcasting event will this be? Live AM or FM radio? Podcasting? From what few tests I've tried thus far it seems like Hi-SP seems good enough. Seeing as how the spoken word will be the main focus of the recordings then the supreme quality of Linear PCM might be overkill, then again you really can't go wrong with PCM no matter what situation. I would suggest that you switch over to HiMD discs so that you don't run out of time and have to swap out your storage medium during lenghtly interviews.

What a pity. With enough nurturing of the technology, the MiniDisc could at one time replaced high-capacity storage formats, too. I'm kind of intrigued at the possibility of the ill fated MD camcorder, and the other related MD gadgets. We're just trying to forestall entropy here, I guess. In any case, you can consider me some fresh blood for the MD community.
