Yes, the 600's Do have an AC connector on the bottom, the UK version also has a Line/Optical IN which i don't think the US version has! (im not sure though, so please correct me)

But yeah, it does have an AC input and i have the AC adaptor but cant figure out how to charge the battery!

Any ideas?

If you can recharge batteries with your unit, then it will be outlined in the Manual. In past sony recorders, the battery charge button was the stop button (pressing to turn it off, then pressing again to initiate the charging)

Reading the manual is essential to using your Minidisc unit with ease.

Funny. I didn't read the manual until I'd had my NH700 for something like 3 weeks, and then it was only to read what the stated specs were.

Later, I did read the section on how to use the group functions on the recorder, but the instructions themselves are so ambiguous that they make no sense. I don't understand why they didn't put a rocket on the unit like there is on the remote. It would have made navigation that much easier.

I have an old NZ-505 and it can charge. However the manual doesn't mention it anywhere.

I know that Sony low-end models are basically higher-end models with some features turned off. Or they just delete any mention of it from the manual which is just plain lazy

Here's the scoop.

The North American model 600 (MZ-NH600D) cannot recharge batteries as it does not have a connection for mains power.

The UK model 600 (MZ-NH600) most likely can recharge NiMH batteries in the AA formfactor. I believe it comes with a crappy 700 mAh battery; you can get AA NiMH's with capacities up to 2100mAh... maybe higher.

That's what i thought!

I have attached the charger but nothing seems to happen, even if i press stop!

Im using the charger from my old R90, which is a 3V and so should be compatable with the 600, It power's the MD fine, but i just can't get the bugger to charge!

Sony likes to use the same EEPROMs for a lot of different MD units... the whole R900/R700/G750/N707/N505 yadda yadda.

I dunno, but the EEPROM hack for these units may work for the N510/NF610 units as well... although I've never tried it. Both units are essentially repackaged N505s except the NF610 has an AM/FM radio function...

(Yeah, this is sort of off topic... bite me. )

Looks like the NH600 loses out in most departments... However, both the NH700 and NH800 can recharge AA sized NiMH's - at least the 700mAh batteries that come with it. I guess it would be safe to recharge higher capacity rechargeables, though I'm not sure. I recharge 1400mAh gumsticks in my NH900 with no apparent problem, even though it's desginated for 1000mAh gumsticks...

It doesn't matter what capacity rechargeable you use... it'll just take longer to recharge if it holds more.

I think they are now about equal.

A long time ago, in a land without Ni-MH, I remeber seeing that Duracell AA batteries had a life of 2100mAh, this was a few years ago now. I dont think they have improved the capacity much over this time but they have improved the high load life.

I would think that a nice new Ni-MH 2400mAh battery would last as long as a standard dry cell, however you have to remeber that rechargable batteries loose charge over time even if not being used. If you use a rechargable that lasts over a week then you will loose a fair ammount through self discharge. DONT go out and buy a dry cell because of this, its better to just recharge the cell you use when it needs it (Hence why rechargables are not reccomended for remotes).
