aamd
How much disc noise is normal for a 900? Mine sounds like a floppy drive. Is this normal? If it is, I guess I'll have to muffle it so it doesn't get picked up while recording.bv
tartan
It's normal for that model, got a '700 and it makes that sound too. The previous minidisc (Sharp 721) had no sound at all when recording. Got around the problem when recording with the 700 by putting an extension cord between the mic and the player and holding the mic away from the player The player is also kept inside a very thick beany hat (used like a bag) so this may help muffle the sound too. aeriyn
The Hi-MD units, so I've heard, all have pretty loud motor noise especially when writing to the TOC, compared to some other units. Sharp units have tended to be quieter IMO to Sony units. I recall my N10 being fairly quiet, much, much quieter than the R900 that it replaced, and quieter still than my N505. However, later on I obtained a Sharp DS8 and it was quieter (on playback and track skipping) than the N10. However, my new iPod is quieter (dead silent) than any MD unit I've ever seen. =P
