Fat Tires
Congrats on your new MD recorder. You're right, at $75, you got a good deal. Enjoy it. Heh, I drive by Kenosha all the time. I live in the Chicago area, but i have to go out to Milwaukee all the time.
mrsoul
Best Buy still has that unit on clearance for @ $79. I saw about 10 at the store on Tuesday night. Hey, I love my MZ-S1 especially out and about. It sounds great to me and the battery life is a true marvel since it replaced a mp3 player this summer. You can't beat these prices for a solid piece of equipment for just about any portable need.
jx2150
What is the deal with the optical in?? What exactly does that allow you to do? Thanks, looking to get an md player soon... -Jx
atrain
it allows you to record from an optical out in digital purity. so you get the cleanest most exact copy of the source as the player is able to provide. take a look through the stickies for advice
aeriyn
Anyone who buys S/PDIF Optical cables from an electronics store like Best Buy is not getting any kind of good deal. You can bop on down to your nearest electrical supply store and usually find the very same cables for around one fourth the price. Also, you can regularly find fairly good optical cables on eBay for around 2 dollars US each. Same with CAT5e patch cables. Fifty foot CAT5e patch cable at Best Buy = 49.95. Fifty foot CAT5e patch cable at Forbes Distributing Co. (my nearest electrical supply store) = 5.00 for the cable and 55 cents for each plug piece. Huge difference. txgitarman
Wouldn't you know it... I've seen those MZ-S1 MD all over town but never realized they had a line in. It's so hard to see through the packaging. Now that I find out that they are a good deal, I can't find one in a store. I guess there's still the Internet. But, it appears to have been dropped from the Sony product line. Too bad! I just purchased a used MZ-G750 from eBay that I'm waiting on or I would go to Sears.com and order one. I sure hope the 750 still works!

It's the radio remote version of the R700, and I find the R900/R700/E900/etc series to be some of the best MD units that Sony ever made. txgitarman
So I went to Fry's in Dallas and they had 1 MZ-S1 left and it was marked down to $69. I couldn't resist. It's mine. I just paid a price for keeping this purchase from my wife. I recorded our band practice off the mixing board today and i wanted to listen to it. So I put it in my old unit to play. I put a track divider in it while listening and it gave me the UTOC error when I hit stop. Then it says the disc is blank! I won't be using that MD player for anything anymore! I might keep it to use as a micpre for the MZ-S1. I can put a scratch disc in it. Hit record and pause and plug my mic into the mic jack and then run a line from the headphone out on the MT-15 and into the line-in on the MZ-S1 in a pinch. I'm hoping that my G750 on order will satisfy all my microphone recording needs. Still, I'm glad I got the MZ-S1 because it gives me the ability to move songs onto a disck with NetMD. Thanks for turning me onto this unit! I do find the controls less than intuitive on the S1. I hate that little joystick. Just my 2 cents. mrsoul
I'm there with you on the initial go with the joystick on the S1 but I really like it now when I am jogging or working out. It only makes sense if you hold it in your left hand with the band around your hand and the MD. It's a PIA otherwise. But, look you get a Type R compatible MD with optical input that takes NetMD like a champ for less than $70. I got mine for $79. I can't complain, it works well for what I wanted it for. I leave the thrills and jog dial fun for the NH900  (Corrected edit)
Fat Tires
I thought that the S1 was a Type R model. It came out about the same time as the n505 and that generation.

Fat Tires
Sony ought to release a Hi-MD sports unit. I'm sure that it'd be popular. Several hours of Hi=SP or Hi-LP, good battery life, compared to a HDD DAP, and it would still have removable media. I'd more than likely get one. atrain
well they've continued to release sports flash, pcdp, boomboxes so the ethic is still there, maybe next generation it'll be availible
Fat Tires
I can seriously see myself using one of them.
