If you're using Windows XP, make sure you're on an user account that has administrative rights. Additionally, make sure you have Service Pack 2 and Sonicstage 2.3. Fullfill those requirements and get back to me.

I am not trying to hijack this tread but I am having the exact same problem. Except I can't load SP2 because it is a company machine. Is there an older version I can use on my work laptop?

I am encountering the exact same "missing database" error. I've uninstalled the program 3 times now, each time going thru regedit and removing the offending keys, still to no avail. i've tried sonicstage 1.5, and 2.3, same error everytime, this is a relatively fresh copy of windows xp, with sp2, but am i by no means prepared to dumb down the already flawed security of my windows by uninstalling sp2, and or reformat my computer because sony has the special olympics team programming their proprietary software. i'm leaving to live in japan in about 4 weeks, and would like to have some music for the wonderful 12 hour jet trip i'm about to take. any reasonable help would be appreciated, and not to "hijack" the thread, but i've seen no non obvious solutions posted to this problem, so hopefully someone is out there who has encountered this. I'm giving this about 2 weeks, then i'm gonna go into the sony store and make a scene for the poor retail workers, please won't somebody think about the poor retail monkey's?

yes i have admin rights on my computer, i've even just recently had a friend send me his sonicstage folders and swap the info over to my computer, still same database error. this seems pretty common, from what i've read, i honestly can't believe sony is getting away with not making MD work within windows or provide atrac3 codecs for other programs if they are incapable of first making a non beta version of their product, or at least providing direct support for it. i was never a big fan of sony, but this is deffinately going to make a fanatic out of me.

have done that already friend thanx for the fast replies, but the obvious has already been completed. i've used the 2.3 from here, and the 2.3 directly from sony, with that 500kb update file, and updated 1.5 with it. nasty letter has been sent to sony, i'm going out to have a smoke, all i can use so far is the md simple burner, if i have to i'll just use someone elses computer before i leave and make some md's, or use my cd's that have the mp3's as wav's on them. but seriously what a poor program, shame on sony for ruining a very versatile technology with shotty program implimentation. forgot to add, that when attempting to install SS2.3 from your link, that i get an error stating "target module not found" then it aborts. shoulda bought the mp3 player in retrospect.

yup yup, been done, 4 times now, the sonicstage 2.3 linked from this site does not work for me at all. i get an error "the target module for this install is missing" i've downloaded it twice, i'm quite fed up with it, and i don't plan on rearranging my software environment just to suit a poorly written piece of software, windows takes up all my patience for bad software.

I assume you have deleted the files in "X:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Sony Corporation", with X: your driveletter.

Maybe you should also delete the directory "X:\Documents and Settings\your name\Application Data\Sony Corporation". I found out that SS makes a dir at that location too.

ya man, i've taken care of all that stuff, i've made sure there was no other folder in any other user accounts as well, it just must be directly conflicting with something in windows, and i really don't care enough to bother any further, and i honestly won't be buying anything from sony again. I've sent them a nasty letter already, and they sent me very simplified instructions on how to go into my control panel, go into add remove programs and uninstall it, and reinstall, although i'd stated in my letter that i had several times attempted just that, but a much more thurough job. So basically thats telling me they either have a pre programmed response to shuck people away, and or the customer support monkey did not take more than a quick once over of my email. Pissed off.

after the third letter to sony i've been directed to this knowledgebase article:

http://www.iq.sony.com/srvs/autoresponse.asp?id=292891

the only problem is, attempts to have me use their system information restore tool, which for some reason will not connect to the internet, which it states is a normal occurance, yet the steps provided to manually restore the information, require the system restore tool to function. it literally contradicts itself. This kind of crap is expected from shareware, two bit software companies making a niche market product, not a company as large as sony. Minidiscs have been around long enough now that these kind of problems should have been fixed permanently.

you sir can believe whatever you want, and you are a moderator here, that is fine for you. But it's your opinion, and not fact, so basically it is slander on your part to tell people there is a problem with my computer, quite ignorant really. have you seen my computer? have you any comprehension of my knowledge with computers? No. Either you are biased towards sony, or are a representative of that company, or just in a fit of ignorance. if this problem was such a rarity "these days" then there wouldn't be a current post open about it. There is an obvious conflict between sonicstage and certain variables within the windows environment, that should been taken care of before a large company like sony releases such a program designed for propietary and widespread use. If they made an atrac codec for nero or easy cd creator, two programs made by smaller companies than sony, this problem would be easy to circumvent. They have not, this is poor business.

I know my opinion seems biased, and there's a reason for that - I've diagnosised probably more than a thousand Sonicstage issues/woes/maladies here and at another Minidisc forum. I promise you, it's your computer that's the bad egg here, not Sony. Let's not focus on this, please; I'm trying to make sure that guests who read this and are influenced by our words know all sides of the spectrum before judging the format. This forum gets in excess of 4 million page views per month, you need to realize how powerful our words are here.

this is true, but how can a fresh install of windows be in error? all other programs function just fine, all other audio programs, ie. audiograbber, flac frontend, j-river media centre, all work flawlessly, computer is fully updated within windows, no virus, no spyware, no crazy codec packs, so in what way is it possible for this not to be sony's fault in programming. How does sony not deserve the bad advertisement seeing as this is a widespread problem? Their customer service, until it was obvious I was very unhappy with their product, basically did nothing, or even read my letter fully. I have no problems with sharing my disdain for their business, and if it costs them a few customers, then maybe they'll impliment a wiser course of action with the next program. and just to fix your little closed minded analogy, i'm sure doctors meet over a 1000 patients with the common cold, but many have different causes and cures, dont' use your blanket answers because you dont' have a specific one for my question.

I know this thread is dead but i am having the same problem.

Their may ba a problem with both of our computers but this seems to be a pretty common problem.

The real problem is sonys lack of standard software instead opting to force people to use their bloated slow and generally difficult to use software.

Atrac is a good format if all you want is to cram as much on to a disc as possible and then listen to 45 hours of tinny, am radio quality sound. I'd much rather use the disc's 1 gig capacity to hold less, decent sounding, music.

atrac should be an option, and i am still waiting for the MP3 hack to come out for Hi-MD players.

haha, hahaaaa

sony support!

what a joker.

but i digress, i'm thinking less than 5% of users here would have had a decent answer from the sony's official support. they're just people putting your problems into a database too.

i'd like to think that it's md forums which compile & solve most of the software errors, again & again.

when i open the sonicstage it said:

Omgjbox.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close.  We are sorry for the inconvenience.

do you have any idia?

thenks

Your problem relates to the common "omgjbox.exe" issue. To resolve the problem, either upgrade your WinXP to SP2 if you have not done so or install the MS04-032 Security Update for Windows if you do not want to upgrade to SP2. Regardless, the windows patch will fix the "omgjbox.exe" issue.

In addition, if you have not update your version of SonicStage, please do so at US Connect or the following thread.
