just for simple listening to music and not being to desperate for features the 600 is for you. Actually, correct me if im wrong, but does the 600D have the opt in or does the 600? im so confused. anyways this is the entry level HiMD player and thus doesnt have all of the features and compared to the other units isnt the best looking/feeling HOWEVER with that said, the playback abilities of this unit are on par with the others and is probably perfect for your reasonds.

its runs on AAs and all HiMD units have a memory buffer that should enabled unlimited antishock (i have owned two MD units over the past 3 years and i have never heard a MD skip)

so all in all for a smaller budget and a person who wants to enjoy HiMD but only listen to music this is probably your best bet

1) If you can find it under the MSRP of $200, then yes. Sams Club has the unit, 5 normal MD blanks, and an armstrap for $130. The US 600D is download only and has only USB port. The Canadien/European/World model has a line-in, handy for recording from Radio or anywhere else, these are denoted by the lack of the trailing D, and should be easily obtained on the net.

2) It normally won't skip when left alone. However, under heavy physical motion with lots of tracks, it has been known to skip a bit when you're playing the disc in shuffle mode.

There are also batches of disc suspected to be somewhat... suspect during transfers. Whether or not it's a small batch or two or a wide spread problem is unknown. I've ran into this when transferring a large number of files in one sitting along with others (read some older posts and you'll see).

I have mine (600 model not the 600D) in my backpack, in the "ipod holder". I've sprant (probably not the word but sprint doesn't sound right) after the bus with my bag bouncing around (a fair shock I would say) and it didn't jump. I had it skip once and that was a sliding impact shock (it spun me around, yes I'm a maniac that usually ends up running for the bus), but not 100% sure it was the MD that gave the skip or my headphones/remote having a wiring dummy spit.

Now that you have a 1Gb model its probably a good thing to go for, a heap of tracks on there and you can shuffle between them or set up groups.

Cori's Standard Advice: If you are not going to record or do not already own lots of MDs and MD related equipment, MD is not for you.

That said, if you don't mind how big the thing is, the NH600D can actually be found cheaply enough online that it's somewhat worth it. But I'd recommend saving up for a high quality DAP; it'll last you for many years.

Yep, 600D all the way. You can't go wrong. Minidisc is still the best econonically portable music system on the market today.

Good point, so long as you don't pay retail price.

If you want the best possible sound quality, the HDD players take the lead there. But if you're strapped for cash and need some skip=free tunes that sound reasonably good, MD isn't a bad choice. Actually, if I was in desperate need of a portable unit, I'd go buy me an older MD player. The insurgence of Hi-MD has caused their value to plummet, and they're going for practically nothing on eBay. I see R900s for 70 bucks now... when I actively used mine before it died, they were still twice that much on eBay.
