hi all

i have used a mz g755 minidisc player for over 3 years now and i want to upgrade

i was thinking of getting a sony hd3 but i dont have that much cash

i was thinking of getting a hi md but i dont really want to pay that much

i really want a backlit remote and the nh900 is the only one with one (and looks so cool) but is a bit out of my range

so i thought about net md's they are so cheap on ebay in and i was looking at the

mz-n10-the best looking but most expensive

mz-n1- cheapest of the bunch but i am unsure about the control

mz-910- huge battery life, but not as good looking

and i was hoping some one could tell me their opinions on these players

finally is there any way i could get the 3gb of music from my computer to my non net md with, say a usb to optical lead? or a minidisc drive?? or do i have to buy a net md player

many thanks happy.gif

thanks for the reply

those 2nd gen hi-md units look damm cool and the new net md's look nice too, but they will probably be very mad.gif expensive

think i should save up the extra for a hi-md, looking at the 900 as it looks the best in my opinion, has a remote and has optical conections, but the battery is pretty bad

who knows if the NH1 price drops low enough i may have one

when are the 2nd gen ones coming out in april?

once again thanks for the help

yes,after the new model release

usually the older model will immediately drop price

(well that's the situation in hk, I am not 100% sure if the situation in country will be the same

well I can guess, it's kind of)

well, I like to say something that is not so related, but u've got to know before u think of buying a so-called older models

well, today electronics consumer product market is different from older days

in the older days(10 years ago or earlier), when u release one model(usually a series consist of high end, mid end, low end)

if the company found that model is popular, it probably will start another production for that specific model(well, that would be some minor edition to design)

e.g. the production quantity is 5000 units

then after the company that model is popular, it may start another 2nd production of 3000 or 5000 units(estimation)

and so on, 3rd, 4th production go with almost the same design

for today electronics consumer product, the situation is different

the production for same model won't last for few years(or even there is only 1 mass production for the model worldwide)

u might want to ask : so what?

what I say did mean that, actually the quantity push to market for specific model is rather small(worldwide)

and the time between each release of new model is shorter

what I am trying to say is : it's not wise to buy a product that 2 year old already

it's really..... rolleyes.gif to buy a NetMD player now

If all you care about is downloading music onto your player, then you can find the MZ-NH600 (Euro model with line in and USB) or MZ-NH600D (American model, USB only) for under $100 on Ebay. It will also play your old MDs.

It's not beautiful, but as a portable player, it's got much higher capacity than the Net MDs.

Mic recording and uploading are a different story--for that, wait for 2d generation to appear and then grab a NH-700 or NHF-800 when the price drops. They have optical-in like the NH-900.

USB-to-optical out will work on all MDLP recorders, but it will be real-time (slow).

Alternatively you can get a NetMD unit to do that (and IMO 910 looks better than N10).

But my recommendation would be european NH600 (which has an optical-in as well), as a cheap HiMD option to playing and recording. Ebay has a lot of these.

Be patient and keep looking, and skip the "Buy It Now" offers for $169--that's retail. A lot of people are selling them for under $100 new.

Search (MZNH600)*

For instance:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...5753085496&rd=1

(That's a US model, the Euro would be better.)

Also look in the Minidisc Players category along with searching for NH-600--not everyone puts the model number in the listing title.

Hey everyone, minidisc.org message boards virgin here. I've been using md's for some time now, I've had about 4 now, the latest is the N10, which was a waste of money. I gave that to my little brother. I'm looking to buy the N910 from ebay. Problem is that I keep on hearing that in europe the minidisc have a lower power output amp, compared to other places where minidisc are sold. I've heard they are capped at 2mW+mW. But when I go to minidisc.org and browse for the specs. on this minidisc, it says 4mW+4mW. Who do i believe?

well battery life for the mz-n910 is way better than on the n10. the fact that the rechargeable battery is removable on the n910 is a plus as well. I mean i believe that in japan the output is not the same as a european model, it's greater. the only thing i like about the n10 is that it's good-looking and that it's on a diet. I prefer the n910 though.

i've looked into it, but never really considered it. when the nh1 came out I loved it cuz it was like the n10 but in hi-md. when i saw that it had a lithium-ion battery, but that was removable i was happy and exited. but when i saw the battery life, i said, wooo, heck no. Also since a lot of people who bought this unit in particular were reporting problems with uploading and a bunch of other problems, i decided not to invest in that. the 2nd gen. units look nice but again, battery life, at least for me, is not so great. the units look nice, but not good enough for me. they seem a little bit bulkier as well. perhaps in the future they will slim them down. maybe then i'll invest.

i see that kurisu noticed and edited the mz-n910 specs on minidisc.org after my discovery. that's great. since he put 5mW+5mW, i'm guessing that's only in japan and not in the uk and europe. not to ask for more editing, but it would be nice to let the reader know in which country the respective specs go to. i.e. let everyone know 5mW+5mW belongs to japanese model minidiscs and 2mW+2mW or whatever it really is, belongs to the uk and europe since those are the only two other places, besides japan, where this specific minidisc is sold.

Your right, that's what the manual says, but why is it that on the equipment browser it says 5mW+5mW, it used to say 4mw+4mW, until i made noticed of that, and someone changed it to 5mW+5mW, I thought it was you. So what is the headphone output in Japan then. It doesn't specify for which country the respective output goes to.

Another query. Is it in the UK that the headphone output is 2mW+2mW and not in europe like i assumed.

Thank you for clearing that up. I've just been beasting to get this n910 and i found it on ebay. one in blue and the other in silver. the blue one is uk and the silver in Maryland. do u know if there is difference between the headphone output between the minidisc sold in europe and uk. I always thought the uk was part of europe. lol. confused here. Another question. do u know if 4mW is much of a difference from 5mW and if i had a minidisc with a 4mW amp, would it sound loud enough with the shure e3's
