We will be at CES 2006!

I'm very pleased to announce that ATRACLife, a division of the Sony Voice Network, will be at the largest consumer electronics expo in the world - CES (2006). This expo has seen the debut of many technologies, including the Minidisc, CD, DVD, Blue-Ray, etc. The majority of Sony's products for FY2006 will be on display, Sir Howard Stringer (CEO of Sony) will be holding a keynote, and much more.

In recent weeks, Sony’s management team has outlined a new vision of the company’s future. It is a vision that is streamlined in terms of product lines, manufacturing sites and efficiencies. As a representative of the community, I will seek answers to how the ATRAC codec will evolve and of course, the products that support it. No rumors, no run-around; just the truth.

To keep our true strength and status as a premium website for all things ATRAC, we must deliver truly differentiated, champion news stories that afford our visitors the unique, compelling and personalized experiences they desire. I look forward to visiting CES to ensure that there is no void in regards to information that is relevant to the format, and that together, we have a mature voice that will speak on behalf of the community.

Las Vegas. This is the largest Electronics expo in the world -- I will be able to sample Connect Player, the new Walkmans, and interview people who have high influence over the format. I may be able to get a word in with Stringer..we'll see. Any interaction with Sony will be recorded by Minidisc, and any photos will be shared. :ol_biggrin:

  • 2 months later...

With the news that Samsung will be supplying 8GB flash memory to Sony (probably for a new Walkman, the real competitor for the Nano), does anyone know/think that this new flash player will have colour OLED screen/ 30fps video support (using the nVidia GoForce 4800 from the Sony-Ericsson W900i?)? Also any chance of 40/60GB HDD Walkman's?

With the quality of batteries of the Walkman's you would think that Sony could come up with a system that minimised reduction in battery life caused but the colour screen, so there would be no compromise.

If so I might hold off on the NW-A3000 and wait for one of the new Walkmans. What is the usual time between announcement and launch of a new Walkman?

Sorry if the questions seem a little random, but I could not create a new topic.

I would take back everything bad I've said about Sony if they announce a new Walkman at CES (being released soon of course), color screen, video playback, picture functionality, great design (HD5 was so plain if you asked me, I liked the A3000, but it was too large), great battery life, and either 20-30 GBs. Or a Vaio Player with the above functionality. (Honestly, one of the dumbest things Sony did was dropping support for the VP brand. They had Apple beat, had they only marketed it more.)

I agree, but knowing Sony, they wouldn't unleash the full potential of their capability, they'll just keep it and bring into their own graves. Just see what happened to MD. It was out almost 15 years ago, but they never fully optimised its potential. What a waste! Same with the Vaio Pocket, that monster was out 1 1/2 years ago! Nobody in the market has anything like that! Correct me if i'm wrong though...

Anyway, seems like no news from CES...!:sad::sad:

Anybody find it strange that absolutely no Walkman announcements were made? TVs, PCs, Laptops, Blu-Ray players, etc. all had announcements, but no new Walkman.

Sony is realeasing the Connect Video service (In March), but no Walkman to support it?

Agreed with nw_lover. I was perusing sonystyle.com and for now there are no HDD players listed for sale! The HD5 is no more apparently. I would expect a formal announcement for the NW-Axxxx series to come tomorrow perhaps... maybe other personal/portable audio announcements as well, such as more information about the Connect player software? The speculation and suspense is almost too much. Thankfully, I have other things to worry about in the meantime ;-)

I hope some good announcement indeed comes. Sony has been a reliable source of disappointments lately. No good Connect Player yet, no support for Atrac in Sony Ericsson Walkmans yet (if ever), no news about new Walkmans for the US market (or about higher-capacity versions, or whatever), not even news about the PS3. Let's hope the company finds its way soon.

The site home/blog page does have some good stuff... I'm definitely looking forward to what else will be unveiled. I'm personally intrigued by the new Sony Ericsson Walkman phone. :) Part of me knows why it's not integrated with Connect/Sonicstage (ATRAC files), but someone like myself would appreciate it, esp. since other products like the PSP can play those files back.

Thanks to all admins/reporters on this site who are bringing great information on the future of ATRAC devices.

Aye, both the NW-A1000/3000 series are still on the menu. The current lineup along with the newly announced Sony Connect video service (scheduled for Spring 2006) is just a precursor to great stuff rolling in the coming months. Remember, this is just day one...

I'm never going to understand Sony. This is the time that they could possibly rival the iPod, yet they decide not to. By the time Walkman with video capabilities roll out, Apple will have a new gimmick leaving Sony watching their dust again.

Well, very disappointing CES for SONY I must say.

Why O why do they split their softs AGAIN? are we gonna have one Connect player for videos, one for music and one for everything else? what nonsense! but it is to early to say.

No news about Connect player only, or mix with sonistage, no V3 etc. Well, the Video service is pretty cool for PSP, BUT no news about what it will be outside of the US.

Well always promises, but nothing concrete, and when it comes out it's horrible!

ah lalaaaa....they sure have to get it right this time.

There's no point in launching A series in the US right now at all. It is just outdated. Rivals are stepping up with video capability, and here we are getting monochrome players? I'm really upset ! Why can't I be a Apple fan!

I fail to see Sony ever making a comeback. Sony just has become so out of touch with reality, they honestly believe that the A3000 is going to challenge the iPod, when it's so behind the iPod featurewise it's astonishing.

Why doesn't Sony let their computer division make MP3 players? Their first attempt beat the iPod in so many ways. Yet they chose not to let them make an updated version.

I love Sony. I want a Sony mp3 player. But I want a mp3 player with at least as much features as the competition.

If you look at the features of the A-series, I believe that Sony were caught with their pants down, no new product for XMas 2005 because they could not get software/hardware ready for this time period (evidence: the A-series contains a 4800 GO nvida gpu, that supports 30fps video, a colour screen and 3MP camera - like the one in the Sony-Ericsson W900i cam-phone) and these half-assed players are an interim design until the video walkman shows up. They might not even get launched in the US. I have full faith that the new wma supporting Sony will get somewhere close enough to right with the video walkman for it to get to at least 2nd place with the Walkman line.
