İ think that i will wait till a solution come up for the volume limiting...

And 500 charges is very bad i think.. do you agree too??

we can guess the battery life according to the 20 hours.. an mp3 at 192kbps with the highest volume and by breaking the volume limiting... it could be 10 hours of continuos play time, i think..

if we play it 5 hours a day we can use battery for 2 and a half year.. bu we must think about the depreciation of the battery.. Again i think it could be 2 years...

I don't think many people here listen to their DAPs with the highest volume, if you do then you surely know that you already have permanent hearing damage.

the best option is to use in-ear canal headphones to reduce outside noise, so you can listen to it at a lower volume, thus saving battery life. 500 charge cycles is not bad, considering the li-ion battery in my canon sd400 only lasts 100 cycles. Hopefully there is no volume limiter for the canadian market, and of course battery life will vary from the A1000 to the A3000. And even to consider is the temparature at which the player is being used, 30C vs -10C.

If you want a better battery life, encode it into atrac3+ at 192 or 256. I am sure you will get much better battery life then.

remeber this is a HDD player, and it needs to access the harddrive whenever you select a song, taking juice from teh battery, not so for flash players. still sony's battery life is respectable and above industry ave.

Hello,Razorback.

AVLS(Automatic Volume Limiter System) is different from Volume limiting feature.Volume limiting feature is put by Sony itself(Inbuilt){IT can`t be accessed from main menu} & AVLS is volume limiter which we can put or disable by accessing main menu...

Basically Acc European res.. Sony has to put that extra inbuilt volume limiting feature .Like in India sony sell European HDD models .So volume limiting feature is there.

About 500 charges ...

I don`t think it is too bad .As in my case i usually listen to my NW-hd5 or NW-HD3 for about 1hour daily so in my case battery lasts for about 20 days or less .So i think it will last for about 2 to 3 years.

BUt a definate caution to everyone: I read this from some magazine that whether u use it or not LI-ION battery last for about 2years only.After that Battery starts to do absurd things

After 2-3 years the battery life begins to fall and then eventually it goes to zero. you can read it all here:

the thing that surprised me the most is that you should run down the battery to nil, but to roughly 40% charge and then recharge. Doesn't it state in manuals to discharge the battery a few times before the full capacity is back?

could only be the case with new batteries then? Anyways, like stuge mentioned the AVLS system is different than the automatic limiter from EU countries. while both can be turned off, the latter can't be done using the regular menu options, ie need to go into service mode.

meaning most likely that all models are shipped with the limiter its just that production destined for europe has it turned on.

Hi!

I would like to buy the Player NW-A1000. But in which colour? Which one do you prefer? In Germany the Player is only available in online-stores...so i had no chance to see it live...

But i see no diffrence in A1000 or A3000 specifications (except for memory)

Does A3000/1000 has chrome used on the sideways {I have seen silver thing on the sideways}?

B`coz after some time chrome comes out .After then player gives yakkkkk(ugly) look

I don't remember now, but the back of the unit is metal. I think it is plastic though. perhaps people who own one can tell us.

Nice to hear that back of the unit is made of metal .Like E500/A600 series......................

On Sony Middle East site they have also mentioned the metal used on the back of NW-E505.So they might be using the same metal here also.

Its Zinc die cast...

Hallo!

Today I got my A1000 in silver..Its really awsome:-)

But i have one problem...The "Artist Link" function does not work properly. It always says that there are no linked files found on my divice. But all my files on the player have a genre information...

It only works with the two sample songs from sony on the player

Can somebody help me?

my mp3 files are downloaded from kazaa and other p2p programs.. will there be any restriction for these files to tranfer to the device???

IT basically depends upon whether ur files r right protected not .

It is simple to check

Right click on the mp3 file =go to properties=then click on "Summary"=click"Advanced"

Check origin...................

Warning to u as well.. Make a back of mp3 files on a cd or dvd

i had a look at the nwa1000 in the shops last night, the back didnt feel like metal, jst felt like hard plastic :/

still, the size isnt as big as i thought it would be

Plastic doesn't feel cold like metal does, it felt like metal when I touched it against my face.

OH! no....yes Spex gave u the right information....

I really forgot the u can`t import or convert encryped wma CODEC TO Atrac format...{Its mentioned in the manual as well as on the box}

But if will convert mp3(protected one ) to atrac format ..then rights managment may interfere..

I don`t have an idea about it as i don`t have any right protected mp3 or wma or atrac.....

can we use all the playing modes (time machine artist link etc.) with the .mp3 files?? or atrac have a difference in the playing modes??

A-series manual doesn`t mention that these features are only for ATRAC codec .So i`m

confident that You can use these features((time machine artist link etc.) with mp3s as well

i read that the battery was infact replaceable, and that the back cover does slide off? is this tru?

For A1000 after removing the strap connecter .You can slide the cover off .But you will need to remove two screws to remove battery

But in A3000 there is no strap cover instead they have put screw cover on the back of the player.So after removing screw cover you will need to remove two screws behind the cover & then you can slide the back cover off.Then you will again need to remove four screws from the player to remove battery

So the main difference we ned to remove two screws inA1000 instead of Six screws in A3000.

So removing the battery looks easy.

About SOFTWARE i don`t` want talk about it as it has been said on the first page of the

"Replying to Exclusive ATRACLife NW-A3000 + NW-A1000 Review" & everywhere in the forum.

2.No ,You can`t convert back from Atrac to wma or mp3.

3.No ,SINCE THE PLAYER IS STILL NOT Released in many parts of the world & it is still new .so no chance of price drop...

Price drop? You can already get it for £175 and indeed there is 1 shop in Birmingham doing for £135! How much lower do you expect to see these things go? The HD5, which is now discontinued can be had for about £160 so I don't expect to see the A3000 to drop lower than than that even after it has been discontinued.

I also read that Sony are now charging 10-15% more for their products to online retailers so that the independant shops can compete better, so I suspect that the online stores are only making a couple of quid on each unit they sell. It would also explain how the B'ham shop can offer such a low price - you have to collect, they do not do mailorder on Sony products anymore. Marantz did something similar, worse infact, a couple of years ago - they don't even sell to online retailers anymore!

When you consider that only a couple of years ago a top of the line minidisc player or indeed conventional iPod cost £250 to £300 (before discount online), then these prices for the A3000 are great value. Just my opinion of course.

I not sure whether this retailer is going to give every shipped accessorie or there is somemajor problem with the piece he is selling.

I have seen many retailers dupping people by selling things cheaper then expected.I`m not taking about every retailer but few of them are like this.
