Battery Sucks On Rh10

I fully charged my battery of RH10 throughout the night.

But this morning I started playing MP3 files the battery showed 1/3-rd already being wasted (used) as I check the screen. Within 15 minutes drive it is now showing half of the battery already been used.

I had Sound Equalizer in Custom settings with all the bass and stuff pumped up. And I fast forwarded about two minutes of the music.

Is this normal?

With brand new NH-14WM's, and for most betteries, they need to be fully discharged then fully recharged. If you charge your battery this way everytime you will ensure the longest possible life on your 14WM. From the RH10 manual:

Because of the battery's characteristics, the capacity of the rechargeable battery may be smaller than normal when it is used for the first time or after a long period of disuse. Charge and discharge the battery several times. The normal battery life will be restored.

It may not necessarily be just the battery. It might be a combination of battery & mp3. If I were you, I'd compare how the battery behaves with atrac files.

For example, on my Sony NW-E99 Network Walkman, which runs on one AAA battery, I can get nearly a month out of one battery if I only play atrac3@132kbps files.

mp3s (128kbps - 192 kbps) eat up the AAA battery in about 8 days, under similar usage.

Also the battery level indicators on most Sony portables are poor at best. It may be that the scale is logarithmic, but i don't really know.

For me, with a fully charged gumstick on my E630, the scenario is equally strange. After about half a week of use (I use my MDP, say, 1 and a half hours a day), the level indicator jumps from 4/4 bars to 3/4. In a couple of weeks, it will jump down to 1/4 bars, and stay sitting there for a month or so. After that, the battery level indicator flashes empty for a week before dying totally.

So don't believe everything your battery meter tells you!

biggrin.gif I bought a GP 1450mAh gumstick battery for my nh900 yesterday and started priming (charge full, play with big phones and permanent backlight till depleted; repeat):

first charge didn't stick at all, took off the ac-cable and indicator went down immediately;

second charge (took a lot longer to charge) lasted a 'bit' longer... batt-indicator dropped from full to almost-empty-and-flashing within 1 hour... but then it continued... and continued...and continued... at 6pm (local time) last evening the indicator started to blink, it played straight till 2am, then I switched it off as I went to bed and wanted to monitor the battery perfomance, put it back on at 9am this morning and now (11.30 am) it's still going strong...although with a blinking indicator!

so it's been playing for 10.5 hours now with a blinking indicator...

[edit] still running at 1.15pm (i.e. 12+ hours on a blinking indicator) [/edit]

[edit2] my player has just stopped, at 2.30pm, so after 13.5 hours with blinking indicator and in total more than 14.5 hours of playing with backlight on... this could really be a nice buy!! [/edit2]

either my indicator can't handle 1450mAh batteries very well sad.gif or this batt will really rock once it's been decently primed bigsmile.gif

actually think it will be the first option, but quietly hoping it's the second!
