Is anyone aware of anywhere that has any of the 2nd Generation units in stock?

AVLand and Dabs list the new players but neither have them in stock.

Cheers

Mike

They haven't been officially released here yet, and there still seems to be no concrete news on when they will be... dry.gif

avland.co.uk sell them for £199.95 but from the looks of it they dont ship it with the LCD remote but rather a crappy button remote.

http://www.cheapelectricals.co.uk/acatalog...April_2005.html

howeaver this place is selling them for £159.98 and it does look like they are selling it with the LCD remote!! jus click the red info link on that page and it list it amongst the features.

both sites only offer the black version at the moment.

also if you put "MZ-RH10" in a search at amazon.co.uk they atleast acknowledge that it exists now, but say its discontinues or out of stock. hopefully they'll have it soon as they usually have good prices.

I hate to bust this bubble, but the European version of the RH10 does not have an LCD remote, they come supplied with the non-LCD remote, as seen at AV Land.

As for importing, my orange RH10 came from AudioCubes, and they mark packages as a gift, thus avoiding any import tax.

actually a quick update, i emailed avland about the price differences and they sent this to me:

Hi,

Unfortunately we can’t match their price on this occasion as they are in short supply.

They won’t have the LCD remote either as Sony UK/Europe are only selling 1 version that comes with a non-LCD remote.

In Japan they are shipping with an LCD remote which we used to have pictured on our website.

Cheap Electricals have just lifted the information (Illegally) word for word from our website including the Japanese picture that we had previously on our website.

Our website now displays the correct remote, which I am in no doubt they will probably copy too.

Thanks

Kingsley

well thats a bummer for all us UK folks who want the full package, they're gonna try and fob us off with a crappy remote!!

gonna see now how easy it is to get a replacement LCD remote here in the UK. if its too expensive atleast i got the lcd remote from my trusty MZ-N707!

does the UK have the crappy volume limitation seen on the european models? I ask cos I think the previous Uk models didnt have the limitation seen in europe. Is there a hack to get rid of this limit in any case?

I really like a massive wall of sound and the 2.8 puts me off mad.gif . If I get a US model how can I recharge it, can I buy a plug from Sony or do I have to use an adaptor on the US one? Any other limitations to getting a US model in the UK?

Don't even worry about the plug; just buy a standalone gumstick charger and go that route. The BC-7HT would be perfect for you - use Google and find a place nearby that you can buy it from. There are no issues aside from that.

Thanks kurisu, although that BC-7HT costs 50 bucks. A problem seems to be paying for delivery for US units to the UK ($94 for Datavision).

You guys may be interested to hear that Cheap Electricals has the MZRH10 for £160 including VAT and delivery. Their website looks a little amateurish though so I'm not sure whether it's safe ordering from them..

See adamfarden's reply earlier in this thread. I wouldn't trust them myself.

Bought my RH10 from www.cheapelectricals.co.uk over a week ago.  Next day delivery, no problems at all.  In fact the only thing I'm a bit hacked off with is that they have already dropped the price by £7!.

Sorry guys, not a very good start for my first post.....

My mistake, I got the RH10 from www.ogormans.co.uk/minidisc.htm (got confused between the two, because I was going to order from cheapelectricals).

Anyway, I can thoroughly recommend ogormans - very helpful on the phone, RH10 arrived the next day (first in the UK as far as I'm aware).

Amazon.co.uk have it listed now

http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B...6431399-8864444

ih's going for £159.99 so its the cheapest reputable company in the UK so far.

howeaver it says 'usually dispatched within 4 to 6 weeks' so we'll have to keep an eye on availability for now

hopefully that'll change once they get some stock in!

It's the "4 to 6 weeks" bit I don't like happy.gif

Why?

It's really not worth the money at the current price.

I'm a die hard minidisc fan and was mega disappointed.

The unit really feels cheap (yes it looks good I know). The exclusion of a lcd remote is madness. The display is excellent but a lcd is good enough for a "on the move" player.

You can do an awful lot better with the best part of £200 at the moment.

I'd say that this unit (that's the european model) should sell for £130 - £140.

Got my RH10 from Amazon. Really nice machine. Last Minidisc player I had was an MZ-R30 so the differences are pretty radical for me. Main thing is sound quality is great with my Sennheiser HD600 headphones which the volume hack made usuable. There's seems to be some bass enhancement though even on the Normal equaliser - which I assume is flat.

The look of the unit is slightly cheap looking but I guess they had to cut costs some how, unlike the metal R30 case. OLED display is superb. Using Sonicstage is just great and easy for copying my MP3s. Sound quality appears to be better though if they are converted to ATRAC during the transfer.

I abandoned Minidisc a few years ago but now I'm back with it's great storage capability and sound quality. I much prefer this over an IPOD.

That's very weird, since converting from MP3 to ATRAC is transcoding, an operation which generally leads to lower quality. Are you sure about that?

I know that on some Sony HDD units the EQ only works on ATRAC, not MP3, maybe this is alo true for the RH10?

You would think the transcode would reduce quality. I've done some more testing and the differences are substantial with my HD600 headphones, the MP3 sounds duller. I'll check the EQ but I'm sure I have it set to "Normal". I'm actually pleased with the ATRAC 132kbps quality and will probably stick to that anyway due to the reduced storage required (my MP3s are mostly 192kbps).

Can anyone with a 2nd generation unit confirm rubadubdub's statement that ATRAC files sound better than MP3's when transferred?

Don't get me wrong, I trust your experiences, but I just want to know if this is a common problem. Maybe the MP3 encoders in the new generation are no good, or maybe something's wrong with your unit?

Hi all. I'm new to this forum. I've recently bought the MZ-NH-10 from AskDirect. Price was £159, good service and prompt delivery. I was none too happy to discover that the Eurpean model was capped though - reduced level in earphones output, no custom graphics, however, I could live without the extra languages in the menu though. I felt cheated. It was through this forum, that I found the hack to upgrade the unit.

With all the functions now available (did someone mention France?), I've had a chance to give the unit some critical listening. I've only transferred about 3 mp3s to date and have noticed that they sound somewhat compressed and particularly clipped at the top end, compared to Atrac3 files. I've not heard that converting them to Atrac3 would improve the sound, but logic would dictate that you're compressing a compressed file, it should result in further sound loss.

I've just bought the Audio-Technica ATH-CM7 earbuds to go with the HZ-NH and running them in. I'll try converting some mp3s and get back with the results.
