I downloaded yesterday your standalone installer.

I run it 2 times already, and want to share one thing which could be helpfull to make it better.

Generally it works, great!

One problem I had was regarding WM9Codecs9x.exe

On very early installation phase, installer declare that it can't download WM9 codecs (althogh internet connection was fine, and although I had those codecs installed already).

Only after I downloaded WM9Codecs9x.exe myself *and* put it to ....\Desktop\Downloads folder installation follow without problem.

My comp is Athlon 1.2GHz, 396MB RAM plenty of HDD.

Windows 2000 prof Polish, SP4, MDAC 2.80.1022.3, JET 4.0.8618

SS doesn't work, but this is another story. I'm fighting with this for last 2 days. I'm not windows newbie, and it's nice puzzle why my CPU goes over 80% after SS starts. SmartBurner works with no problems. No, I don't have any bed codecs

Hello, first post here.

I also got the standalone installer yesterday, and I'm getting the same problem during my install.

I already have WMP9 codec installed before, and I also tried putting WM9Codecs9x.exe on \Desktop\Downloads, but to no avail.

The problem is that the installer tells me that it "failed to download WMP9Codecs", and, well, it's not so surprising, since the computer does not have internet connection.

Any thoughts on the matter?

I got a different but probably related problem. I went through the installation fine, but after reboot and starting SS I received an error message. I don't remember the exact text, but something to the effect of can't find WMA handler or something like that. Click OK on the error message, and SS goes bye-bye.

After installing the regular way and rebooting everything was OK.

What version of DirectX do you have?

DirectX 9.0c of course smile.gif

But since then, I reinstalled Windows 2000, pathed it (SP4 + updates - KB840987)

Clean system, just MS Office, Acrobat Reader, SygateFirewall and antivirus.

1st run of SS31_MDCF.exe - "Can't download WindowsMedia codecs"

All right, I put them to ...\Desktop\Downloads, run again ... no, the same.

I installed WindowsMedia Player 9 (well I think this include WM codecs, I am wrong?)

Run SS31_MDCF.exe again, and again...

All right, I start internet connection, run again... and this time installer really downloaded WM9Codecs.exe

Every else went great, but that's not the end of the story...

After restatr SimpleBurner in tray, good. Click on SonicStage ... "Cannot locate needed files related to Windows Media Format. Exiting SonicStage." And it really exit..)

I rerun by hand WM9Codecs.exe again and again. Runs smoothly, but no change.

Restarted, no change.

I found at microsoft MediaPlayer site some other WMCodec instaler, the same name WM9Codecs.exe but a little bigger file 1 416 944

This one goes smoothly, but at the end declares> "No entry point for GetUserGeoID in Kernel32.dll"

So somehow, SonicStage is right - I don't have properly registered WindowsMedia Codecs.

But how to register them correctly is my next question in my provate SonicStage adventure!

But that's for tomorrow, it's middle of the night right here in Poland.

Yeah i'm getting simmilar problems. I'm using a university computer behind a firewall, so it's not surprising the normal 700kb downloader doesn't work as it thinks i have no internet connection. But i downloaded the full installer and first it asked me to manually install the directX drivers, which i did, then i ran it again and it asked me to manually install the WMP9 codecs. I did this about 10 times, and also tried putting them in the previously mentioned downloads directory to see if it helped but it still aborted install asking me to manually install the codecs.

I really need to upload some recordings ASAP, Sony has run out of Hi-MD blanks here in australia and i need to do a live recording this thursday, but i only have sonic stage 2.1 i think, whichever version came with my NH-1. These recording are very important so i don't want to mess around with an unreliable version and risk trashing uploads.

If it matters i'm unsing XP, i have administrator rights to this machine but not to the network or the router / firewall, since it's a university network.

Sorry for all the troubles, we should have made further testing

I'm busy atm, I will take a look tomorrow night if I have time!!

Sorry for any inconvenience, it's beta after all wink.gif

No that's ok, after i posted this i looked around a bit and i didn't realise at first how much in the early stages this was.....sorry if i sounded harsh, i'm very gratefull that you and others here are working on things to make it easier smile.gif

I just get so pissed off with sony, i got to the point yesterday that if i saw someone with a sony shirt or hat on i would've punched them out, i mean you pay big bucks for a brand new technology, and not only is it impossibly limiting with transfers and backwards usb compatibility but the software they bundle it with is full of faults! Argh!

I am experiencing the same WM9 problems. I have 9.0.03250 and the installer always to download microsoft one. And as I have no Web connection on the PC it fails. Maybe It can be helpfull to add a sort of "web free" install option which just tell you that directX or MDac is out of date and recommend you to update the components as SS may not work, but let you install SS and SB "normally".

Daijibou is here anyway I can do the same job for a French version of SS ?

Has anyone tried the standalone installer with WM10 loaded? Do you get the same errors as with WM9 loaded?

Thanks

  • 2 weeks later...

Manually installing isn't going to work because it doesn't bypass the procedure during the setup. What you do is download the wmp6codecs.exe from windows after you press ok in the setup window, place it on your desktop under a folder named "Downloads" (not sure if it's case-sensitive, but do it anyway). Hit setup again and when it reaches that download procedure, it'll see that you have the file and it'll proceed from there without problem and it'll install the codecs for you, again).
