From engadget:

Another step forward in the race to crack open the PSP: ps2nfo.com user Paradox worked out how to get a dump from a UMD disc, and has released the ISO files for several PSP games (Wipeout: Pure US, Ridge Racers Japanese, and Vampire Chronicles: The Chaos Tower Japanese). Also of note, UMD discs use the standard ISO9669 format, so the released ISOs can be burned to regular CDs or DVDs. Know that the games are not yet playable in this format, but it’s a big step forward now that all the reverse engineers out there can get their hands on this stuff.

Sony wasn't just looking for a gimmick when they decided to use the UMDs in the PSP. Until the PSP can be hacked into playing the ISOs from the memory sticks, the ISOs will probably be left alone.

Could that even work? The Memory sticks are 1 Gb max am I right? Split between 2 512mb drives, could 1 ISO be spread across the 2 and still function?

It'd probably be neat to play the games on a computer, i.e. emulation..maybe if you could port it to another device.

It'd be funny if you could emulate PSP games on a DS. wink.gif

geez why is everyone here such a nerd. lucky i'm cool.

I wish they would have waiting, now this is only going to delay us using UMD in other ways...

It is feesable to spread the ISO accross 2 sticks. Since it IS possible to execute binary code on the PSP, in essence someone could build a bridging app to make both mem slots combined. However, this becomes an expensive solution. You would have to constently upload your game to sticks, otherwise you would be better off just buying the UMD.

Heh... you want emulation? How about a Gameboy emulator for PSP?

According to this website, a PSP gamer from Japan has posted up a homebrew coded Gameboy Emulator for the PSP. Check it out! happy.gif

The biggest stick is 2GB, a little bigger than the 1.8GB of the UMD, so it's possible. And the isos currently cracked are ~500MB.

Aye... it's only matter of time.

The UMD being cracked already, makes me wish Sony would have been smart, and made Hi-MD the media choice for the PSP. At least then it could be an AFFORDABLE MP3 player.

It would be most interesting indeed. In addition, had PSP adopt Hi-MD media, we would have seen a 2GB Hi-MD media since UMD disc has a 1.8GB capacity.
