Hi-md Pcm Transfer Once Crack?

Well, I recordered a live concert on Hi-MD. I transfered to the PC once but I accidentially deleted the file. I still have the Hi-MD but SonicStage doesn't allow me to transfer it again. I know I can still savalage it by recording it in analog but it's going to be difficult to me and lose some quality. I am wondering if there are programs that can hack the Hi-MD. For Christ's sake, it's my own live recording. Why should _I_ be disallowed to do whatever I want to MY own recording. Thanks.

Your better off trying to restore that file you deleted from the PC. You aren't going to get anything off that MD. Thanks Sony.

It's too late to rescue the computer file. I didn't remember it till it's many days over.

If there were no hack, what is the best way to record the audio in analog with mininal lost of quality? Frankly, what's the point of the transfer-once protection. Once in PCM and WAVE, people can do anything they want and certainly make a CD first if they intend to "steal." This silly copy protection only hurt real users!!

Try HiMD_xtract, look for it in the forums.

I don't think it would work here...hippiect is talking about a recording he erased from his PC, not a track he downloaded from SS and then erased. Fishstyc wrote about his HiMD_xtract program (here):

I wrote a little tool that can save tracks that you put on your md via sonicstage (not simpleburner), back to your computer. If you delete oma files from the library and from the harddisk from within Sonicstage, you can copy it again from your Hi-MD to your harddisk.

as far as I know it doesn't work for analoguely recorded tracks...and if I'm wrong, I'm really wondering why noone uses this to save their recordings and we still promote TotalRecorder as the only digital option left.

are you sure LV? it seems to be *.oma

I guess I'm LV tongue.gif

sure the track he erased from his PC was OMA, but it originated from an analogue recording -> uploaded by USB -> SS and not directly imported from CD->SS or MP3->SS or anything like that...

I just mean to say that as far as I understood fishstyc's explanation of his program at the time, it only works for tracks that were erased from the PC (music library) and that SS wouldn't allow to be uploaded again from Hi-MD because of DRM-reasons but that were previously imported in SS (from CD or MP3's or anything, but not by USB uploading) then downloaded to Hi-MD.

There are some essential differences between restoring tracks imported in SS and tracks recorded analoguely (through line in/mic in) then uploaded to SS, as Marcnet states in the same thread as I've mentioned above:

Further more, the encrypted audio data of such material (note: tracks you've recorded yourself) differs from the audio data in the resultant OMA file that SonicStage produces after upload. This means that SonicStage decrypts the HIMD audio, re-encrypts it and stores the DRM info of the new re-enctpyted version. So attempting to restore from the HIMD data would result in failure since the encryption keys differ (and hence the DRM info) between the HIMD version and the OMA version.

so simply put: because the resulting OMA in SS isn't exactly the same as the original recording on the disc, HiMD_xtract won't work here.

as I said, I could be interpreting all this wrong, but I doubt it very much, because if it would allow recordings to be restored, a lot of the more tech savvy ppl here on MDCF would already have been promoting this method for saving ruined uploads... and they haven't. So as far as I know, the T-R way is the only digital possibility to restore your own recordings from Hi-MD after you've had your one and only USB-upload.

*sigh*

Get Total Recorder or Audacity.

Connect Hi-MD to system.

Fire up SonicStage.

Set TR or Audacity to record the audio stream from software.

Hit play on SS.

There you go. Digital Recording, real time, no loss. ZOMG.

Thank you very much Syrius! SonicStage does play Hi-MD content back through the PC. I am lucky. This also explains why it takes so long for SonicStage to transfer the PCM audio from Hi-MD to PC. I think it's scrambling the signals back to the disc during the transfer.

See SONY. DRM's cracked with the help of your own SonicStage. Come on, drop DRM for analog recorded materials, at least.

Now, I have to find Total Recorder and Audacity and learn how to use them. Many thanks.

- Audacity is free and can be downloaded from MDCF-downloads (pictogram at the top right of this page) but will only capture the processed signal from your soundcard (NOT the unprocessed digital signal!) (see this page)

- TotalRecorder can be bought for about $11.95 I believe...but it will allow capturing the digital stream before it has passed through the PC-soundcard so you'll have a "bit-by-bit" digital copy, so it could be worth the (small amount of) money (see this site)
