Ok update on my end, again, I left CP on overnight, and when I checked it this morning, 2 new albums were added. So maybe it did change something. So I hooked up the A1000 and A3000 let it sync, 10 minutes all togther, then disconnected the devices. So far none of hte songs i have tried have had any linked artists show up on either unit.

I will though, go through the A1000s 440 or so songs and go in order and check for linked artists.

btw, does anyone know if when you it sends info to gracenote to get the info back, does it also add to the gracenote database? I checked, some of my house music is on their database. But sadly not all. House music is just too crazy for linking artists, most have the genre house lol, so all would be linked lol.

Very nice news for the plugin bluesign, looking forward to it. Any chance a plugin to winamp for playlists lol.

treat artistlink like the rotating screen function of the nwh5.... pretty cool, in theory. but really nothing more than a novelty feature and utterly useless...

i'm sorry if i'm a bit slow, but basically you connect your device to the pc, open up Connect Player and leave it connected to the net and it will update the track tags on the player so that artistlink works? trippy. maybe thats why my bandwidth is shot to hell

strange i don't see gracenote.cddb.com listed when i run netstat... that means its not doing anything =\

Yeah, that feature is kinda useless.

For me it worked only on a couple of songs; the results were kinda useless, it found a song by the same artist and a remix done by the artist - nothing the "go to artist" option couldn´t have done

Maybe my songs are just too underground ;) i can imagine it works better with mainstream/charts stuff

Hope they will improve that feature in an update...

artistlink works...

but works like a bullshit...

artistlink should be improved very very soon...

when i import some mp3 files in to the cp, it starts searching info from cddb to wirte in the id3tag.. but it just finds the album name... and never finds the genre.... always says, unknown...

if the genre could be founded the artistlink by cp from cddb.. then i am sure it will work..

i will indicate you something whether you know or not...

select a mp3 from the library and enter the properties section.. then select the more info tab.. at the bottom you will see a writing that says "artistlink data are present"

so why doesnt it work..

stupid artizlink.... =)

Well well well, I decided to go through my mp3s again and re add the year myself and proper albums from a site with all the info and not gracenote.

As much as I would love for the artist link to always work, or most of the time, I have now come to the conclusion that sony seriously should rework how CP works with the artist link.

Sure gracenote is great, but the problem is, it doesn't alwyas work with house music. If CP sends a 15 sec clip of the song to gracenote to check for info, perhaps maybe this is why it isn't working on all house songs or working incorrectly.

I've already corrected more than 200 songs today, mostly with year and even sometimes album, but mostly year.

Oddly a song released in 2005, was for some reason dated to 1993 by gracenote? It even added years to songs that are not in the gracenote database.

I think i'll turn off the artistlink background function for more than just speed in CP.

according to my researches... there is no 15sec clip sending... i am sure.....

i tried all the possibilities for id3tag gathering...

artistlink works with the id3tag infos... there is not a code in mp3 file to link the mp3s... just the id3tag info...

try to import an mp3 with no id3tag mp3.. it will gather info acoording to the file name..

try to import an mp3 which you havent imported to cp before..

and before importing enter the id3tag info wrong... then import the mp3.. the info gathering will be made according to the wrong id3tag info...

ask any question you want about this topic...

at last, sony have to improve this opton very very quickly..

gracenote database must be get wider... and info decision must be more accurate..

it only finds the artist, song, album and year...

more infos must be gathered...

My artist link didn't work at first. The Connect Player software has very slowly been updating all my mp3's with missing info (album and year) and has been adding ArtistLink info. Keep your Connect Player and internet on and gradually it will add the info and it will work.

I must say though that Sony do need to sort it out so it works faster. I have nearly 4000 songs and at the rate it's going it will take a month to update everything.

Sadly most if not all my songs are house music so gracenote rarely has info for mashups or remixes, unless the song is on a cd that is released, otherwise, most remixes i have are not found on gracenote, so sadly I have to add the info myself.

Even worse when it comes to adding album info, year is easy, but when 5 remixes are released together, it's usually CD5 or on vinyl, and there really is no "real" album name.

i have to say im impressed with the new sonic stage it was able to import ~3000 tracks

through netstat i can see that its connecting to gracenote and getting some data.

ill leave it on overnight and see if theres any more connections going to gracenote in the morning (6 hours time)

well it managed to download all the info, as well as the NETSTAT traffic there was a lot of HDD activity. When i woke this morning all of which had stoped so im assuming that all went well.

Connect player is up to its old tricks again, i formatted the player and connected my player and load up CP it loads the tracks in CP's library the says its loading the MP3 player stalls at 99% and now i can do anything total freeze up

any ideas?

Nino

AAAARRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHH

Stupid piece of shit!!!!

I restarted my computer and loaded CP to be greated with

"Database corrupt reinstalising"

and all the tracks that were moved across last night are now gone from the library and i need to start again!!!!!

and someone said CP was stable?!?!

i left connect and the internet on and my player plugged in over night several times and nothing updated, and i lost the link between the two sample tracks.

and i have never seen netstat accessing gracenote. could it be anything to do with the region you select when you first install CP?

actually thinking about it, it could be because i delete songs that have been transferred from the library, so maybe that's why artistlink doesn't get updated. iunno. i keep some songs in the library though.

i only listen to full albums however some are trance/dance/house compilations

some of my music is pretty indie, i.e. death cab, panic division, panic! at the disco, but there's mainstream stuff like linkin park and papa roach. those should be linked right?

If you rip ATRAC files straight off a CD into CP does it still need to contact GraceNote later to get the artist link info or is this all done when it gets the artist name at the start?

Artist link is mostly working but is not picking up some really obvious connections. 90% of my songs are ripped off CDs with CP.

does it matter if the tracks in your library are not the same format as on your player? i have mp3 in my library and atrac on my nwa3000. i have left cp running all day and will sync later. when i run netstat the window flashes up for a second and then disapears so i cannot see if it is gatering info from gracenote or not.

Thanks Pip

Note

CONNECT Player can only ensure proper operation for the following music files:

Tracks imported from audio CDs or purchased from the music store via the Internet by using CONNECT Player.

Tracks imported from audio CDs or purchased from the music store via the Internet by using SonicStage.

Tracks imported from audio CDs by using Windows Media Player (only *.wma files that are not copy-protected by the Windows Media Rights Manager content management system).

This was taken from the help screen for Connect Player...

Looks like Sony would like us to re-rip every track we own
