milovoo
It seems that the only reason my headphones ever die when the wire gets weakened at a stress point. I have gone through 3 pairs of the sony MDR-EX71sl and I hate to to keep buying them just because of these wire problems.(I also just got the D66s, which will be more expensive to replace - I almost want to just keep sending these things back to Sony until they add the nice reinforced fabric cable like some of the cheaper earclip models to the pro model)I just got a new pair today and I'm wondering, has anyone here ever found any method of reinforcing your headphone cables while they are still new such as, shrink-wrap, tape, glyptal, or some such thing?I'm going to try some method on the current EX71s and if that works then I'll try it on the D66s.thanks for any help, milovoo
Christopher
Did you ever try anything? No suggestions here but sounds interesting nonetheless..
MDX-400
Interesting indeed, especially considering he's gone through *three* sets of EX71s due to cord problems The only thing I can think of is to use electrical heat shrink tubing over the headphones cord wherever you can. This would certainly decrease the flexibility of the cord though, and I'm not even sure if it would extend the life of the cord/headphones. I guess decreasing the flex of the cord would help but I'd think if anything it would be make them more inconvenient!
smkranz
Perhaps you could try a careful application of a silicone cement at the end of the cord where it enters the phone, to make a flexible reinforcement for the cord. Make it a little bit thicker at the base, and taper it off as you go down the cord a half inch or so.
sony_man
i actually tried ripping the cord out of a dead drive on my EX51's. it was so hard i couldnt believe that sony actually reinforced it. i had to use a knife.it is strange that you would have to replace 3. makes you wonder if sony would care enough to do something besides constantly taking in borken ones and giving out new ones. maybe the next time they break, ask for a refund lol.
