The best remote for any HiMD device or even for those hdd Sony players is the RM-MC40ELK, you will get a good amount of info from its three lines display. The jog dial is similar to the one in the RH10, it is easy to operate, it weighs 30g, it has a nice blue light and it's stylish. The drawbacks are: all its features are available only when it's plugged to the NH1. The other recorders/players miss:

-No clock.

-No recording menu.

However some members say the mc40elk are unable to keep the light on when it's plugged to the RH10, this hasn't been confirmed though.

On the other hand, the mc35elk (or mc33el) is an universal remote, any Sony device with a remote port can be controled by this one. You can do everything from it, in fact, it's the remote included in the japanese version of the RH10. The mc35elk can display two lines to read group/track at the same time. The drawback is: if you are listening a song and you want to know what song is five tracks (groups) ahead, then you must fast forward (groups +) five times to know.

Dunno anything about the mc55elk, I've seen it in the local Sony store next to a cd player but anything else. sleep.gif

Consider it confirmed by me that you cannot keep the backlight lit on the 40ELK when connected with a RH10 or RH910. -_-

Actually, I have a brand new US MZ-RH10 that came with new firmware, and it supports persistent backlight settings.

I think you are talking about the OLED screen on the RH10, not the small screen on the 40ELK. Am I right? Sure, my OLED will always stay on, but the 40ELK will NOT. There are no settings in the menu on the RH10 like the NH900 and the NH1.

How about plugging in the original remote (RM-MC35ELK) back into the RH10 and changing the backlight setting on the remote to "on" (Hold "display" on remote --> Option --> Backlight --> On), then plugging in the 40ELK again?

...unless thats already been tried.

possibly, but i found that on the nh1 if you pull out the remote and just use the nh1 by itself, it wont use the setting that you set on the remote such as repeat, shuffle, etc.
