Sparky191
I have a Sony (3v 500ma 230-240~ 50Hz 5W) charger from an older G750. I've just got a NH700 (from AUS) which has a different charger (3V 50Hz 1A 240). Can I use my old charger with the HiMD unit? Is it worth getting an adapter (it has a different pin out than we have) so I can use the HiMD charger?
greenmachine
The new 'charger' can deliver twice the amount of current (1A/500mA) propably for a good reason. I wouldn't use the old, weaker 'charger' for the new unit. Vice versa it should work though if they use the same polarity. Get an adaptor. KJ_Palmer
It's possible the old adapter might not supply enough current to your Hi-MD (.5A rather than 1A). I'd rather go slightly over in terms of amperage. Its always worth trying to match the ratings as nearly as possible. You may for example run into problems when recording, but I think by and large the old adapter should 'work' OK...
MZ-1
Regulated power supplies have some advantages:1. Reduces hum while listening2. Constant voltage up to the rated current draw. *Unregulated* AC adapters are rated for a particular voltage and current. With enough current draw the voltage drops to the specified voltage and all is OK. If the unit does not draw enough current, the voltage may remain higher than the unit can handle, causing failure. The newer switching power supplies can accomplish the above (with much less weight), unfortunately most switching power supplies are RF trash generators and can interfere with radio reception -- especially when used in conjunction with a radio.Paul
