I recently moved and had to re-setup my computer. Now, for some odd reason, mp3s that I use to be able to convert and transfer to my Hi-MD are now unable to be transfered to my MZ-NH1 ( i.e. foo fighters best of you ) THe message says that Sonicstage 3.2 doesn't recognize my type of file ( mp3, which seems not to be the problem ) or that the file is protected by copyrights ( which has never happened before, i've transfered it to my MZ-NH1 many times before i moved ). Anyone experience this before?

specs :

1. windows xp service pack 2 on a 2.4 athlon xp computer i built myself with 512 mb of ram and USB 2.0

2. I uninstalled all my sony programs following the recommendations of this site, i was using Sonicstage 3.2 and SB 2.0

3. i have no codec packs installed

4. I use a Song Mz-NH1

5. I have kiky ps2 controller adapter, my intellimouse and an intel webcam on my other 3 USB ports.

oh yes, i also installed a "copy" of madden 2006.

I also tried installing the non internet version of SS3.2 ( the one that is now available on the d/ls page ) after a clean uninstall but it wouldn't recognize my MD player. so i'm stuck using the internet based version

Like i said, i never had problems till recently and it's really annoying. I love my MD player but I hate sony software. please help

this is the exact message

Cannot convert the specified track.

SonicStage does not support the file format of the track

or the track is protected by copyright.

i've also noticed that the songs that can't transfer are songs i've previously transfered to my MD using sonicstage 3.2. Did i miss clearing the OMG library? were they altered some how cause i might have plugged the md into a different port?

I had a similar problem when my computer carshed a while back, i reinstalled sonic stage(th eoriginal taht came with my MD unit) but i had installed it over the old version which seemed to screw up the registry or get confused with it. i Wasnt able to tranfer any music from or to my computer, so i had to do a complete wipe of my system.

You can try uninstalling SS, then deleting the sony directory(where it keeps the libarry and converted files) and then try to track down evry registry change in regedit(pleae only do this if you know what regedit is). That might fix it, but you may have to nuke windows.

ALso, is the mp3 you are havign dificulty with a ripped mp3 form your cd or is it one you purchased of the net, cause i know when you buy musi conline u need to get a liscence for every track, maybe you lost those!?

thanks for the reply leon,

yeah, i uninstalled all things sony and cleaned up the registry and deleted all the folders ( i should have been more clear when i said clean uninstall ) the weird thing is that i use to have 3.1 installed and when i upgraded to 3.2, i had no problems. plus, finding sonicstage 3.1 is pretty hard.

all the music i obtained online through BT. i never had any problems till now.
