MDnewuser
How are the durability on Hi-MDs ?. If you find a cheap outgoing model like the NH600 (line-in) is it a bad idea to buy many of them ?, i have bought 3 for the price of what the NH700 costed me new.I use MD a lot, and i thought some spare HI-MD units would be real handy since new ones are real expensive and if you just going to use the line-in then its fine. What do you think ?, feel happy with 3, more than enough, but i am thinking of buying one more but 5 would be too much.
greenmachine
I don't expect my nh700 to fail anytime soon. As time advances, there will be new interesting alternatives at reasonable prices. No need for hoarding.
MDGB2
I bought a second hand Hi-MD unit (Nh600 w/line in) to bash it about and use it as a portable, leaving the Nh700 for 'best' . Never had an MD unit fail, touch wood. My first, a 1997 vintage MZ-F40, took some real abuse and still works perfectly. ZareliMan
My R500 (Really old, like 3 years of intense use, everyday...) never failed, it still works, but the LCD broke once it got hit by a car while I was riding bike... The unit still works, but you can't use the LCD so I bought a MZ-NH600 (European, with Line In) wich doesn't looks as solid as my R500, I believe the quality is lower for making cheaper units... petertkalec
My NH900 just died today. Poo. Won't play or record, there seems to be a bent part inside. It didn't take any whacks recently, no bent up discs. Damn.

Chiron
Where are you guys finding nh600's with line in? Mine doesnt have that. No fair.←Yeah the North American model doesn't have them. THe features are probably on the circuit boards, but you'll notice there are flat plastic pieces where a AC in and a line in would go. I wonder why Sony does silly things like this and offer different features around the world on the same models. The classic examples is that remotes (diplay or simple ones) don't come with most North American models, only the very high end units (and unusual to get a display remote, usually just one of those basic plastic ones with buttons). Sony must know that their world wide customers talk to each other....just silly really on their part.
