willtonMD
Hello MD forum people. You have been very helpful during my long time with MD from the 74 min days through to NetMD and finally to Hi-MD. Without your support i would probably have given up and moved to some bland MP3 player or something. But anyhoo i havent. I can work most stuff out but what has tripped me up is the SonicStage stuff relating to Atrac3 and Atrac3Plus.If i have some tracks on my PC from a CD, i then convert them to A3+ 128Kbps, but i cant transfer them to my Hi-MD 80min disc or any other disc. From the boards I have worked out that the MD unit cannot decode A3+ 128 Kbps!! SO what is the purpose of being able to convert to the various A3+ formats when you cant transfer them to Hi-MD?If im in the library tansfer window of SS and go into settings only A3 options are available for convert & transfer. But if i go into the Library and select some tracks i can convert them to a whole range of A3 and A3+ options - but only a few of them are useable for transfer to Hi-MD !!!It takes hours to convert and transfer so i wanted to convert first then transfer quickly some other time. Now ive got to do it all over again Have i understood all of this correctly ?Also if i have long tracks recorded onto my Hi-MD via optical whats the best way to edit them on a PC - is it possible to download them and get them off SS and edit them and then get them back onto SS again to put back onto my Hi-MD player? Does that make sense? Ill try and explain more if its not crystal. Hope ive done enough research to qualify for some assistance. Many thanks and i hope youre all having a great pre holiday build up Edited November 30, 2005 by willton
A440
Also if i have long tracks recorded onto my Hi-MD via optical whats the best way to edit them on a PC - is it possible to download them and get them off SS and edit them and then get them back onto SS again to put back onto my Hi-MD player? You should be able to upload the optical tracks from MD to PC with SonicStage. But SonicStage won't convert those tracks to .wav because Sony is so afraid of piracy. Get HiMDRenderer from Downloads. Once the tracks are uploaded into My Library, HiMDRenderer will convert them into a more portable and editable format like .wav or .mp3. Then you should be able to download the converted files back onto another MD.
Richard
If i have some tracks on my PC from a CD, i then convert them to A3+ 128Kbps, but i cant transfer them to my Hi-MD 80min disc or any other disc. The current range of Hi-MD players do not support all of the Atrac3+ bitrates, but there are other Sony HDD Players and flash players + PSP that do that also use Sonic Stage. That is why they are in there.
The Low Volta
about the "useless" A3+ modes... there are some other Sony DAP's that can handle those bitrates, but ineed, HiMD is limited to (as far as A3+ is concerned) HiLP (48kbps), HiSP (256kbps) and since SS3.3 also 352 kbps atrac3+... which is very strange as it is a completely new bitrate option which works for 1st and 2nd gen HiMD without any firmware updates or anything, but in which you (unfortunately) cannot record yourself...if you do not see 352 when importing CD's, do not worry... that's Sony's logic again. You cant' import CD's into SS in 352, but you can convert wav->352 (so just rip your CD's with EAC, import the wav's into SS, convert to 352 and delete the wavs again...very simple or better 'the Sony way of things' )
Christopher
Welcome, willton. I would also suggest upgrading to Sonicstage 3.3, for the best possible experience. Edited November 30, 2005 by kurisu
willtonMD
Ah ha - Its the first time ive used SS and i didnt realise it was a general sony application. I tried it once a few years ago and binned it cos most of useage was simply ripping CD's onto MD for portability. But now that i can upload my own recordings onto a PC i started to have a go with SS.Now i understand that the 256kbps relates to Atrac3+ in the transfer window !!I wondered where that Atrac3SuperDeluXe three-five-two came from. I shall upgrade to 3.3 immediately.Ive also got the HiMDRenderer so ill have a go of that too. Thanks alot minidisc people

Then you should be able to download the converted files back onto another MD.OK Ive upgraded to SS3.3 and installed HiMDRenderer and left a deposit on marcnet Ive edited the wav file using nero wave editor and then imported the track back into SS library ..... but it wont play!! When i click on the play icon or dbl click the track, zero happens!! the file is shown in the library properties and all seems ok.I imported the virgin wav which HiMDRenderer produced and that wont play either. However if i save the wav files as wma or mp3 from Nero it works.I played around a bit more with this and then got the "Cannot load the rights information.." error, but only with the first wav i loaded. I removed all the files from the SS library and reimported the original wav file - and now im back to where i started, it simply doesnt play! This seems to be the case with any wav file i import. All these different formats are of the same track, which was one digitally recorded onto the HiMD and then uploaded into SS and then converted to wav with HiMDRenderer. If i convert the wav into an atrac format, and then only when i delete the original wav file from the track properties;file info window can i play the track. Also in the properties for the track the "track info" and "lyrics notes" windows are greyed out - i.e not editable. It would appear that the track is 'not allowed as a wav' for some reason, but SS is supposed to support wav files !!Do you have any ideas or directions to investigate. Merry Christmas and hope you have a great new year party. Edited December 26, 2005 by willton
