USB Cable

Hey,

I was wondering if anyone could help me out. I'll mention here that I am in the UK. OK, I've lost my USB cable for my MZ-NH1 (well, my dad lost it anyway). I phoned Sony today and they were like "33 pounds and its yours". I was shocked at the price, 33 pounds for a USB cable to me seems rediculous. So now I'm looking for any retailers online of Sony spares or any alternative cabled which I could use.

Thanks for any help

Dave

You could use any USB cable that you could find at your local electronics shop. Maplin should be a good place to look since you are in the UK. Camera shops would be my next guess. It is a standard USB mini plug.

Forget that, Did not see the NH1 reference.

As far as i know, the nh1 is one of the few - if not the only hi-md to use a proprietary connector, which cable - as you have just experienced - can be disproportionately expensive to replace. The majority of other recorders accept inexpensive standard usb cables.

It seems strange to me that this has to be expensive.

I have a digital sony camera at home which comes with exactly the same USB plugs.

So I think you can even get a USB cable in a camera store.

Anyway I use both and I noticed no difference in functionality.

Did not know there was any difference in HiMD usb connection cables, forget my post.

to avoid confusion:

-all HiMDs except the NH1 and the camera-model use a generic USB->miniplug cable (like digital cameras etc..) which can be found very cheap

- the NH1 and one older (netMD) model use a Sony-proprietary USB cable, which is quite expensive when bought from Sony, but as atrain's post shows can be found pretty cheap on ebay sometimes
