This is one slick looking player. Probably the nicest one in my inventory so far. :D I forgot to add that there is full resolution pics in the gallery.

On this shot you can actually see a reflection of a poster I have on my cube wall.

Here are a couple of shots so you can get an idea of the size compared to MD blanks:

Brilliant! Thanks for sharing. Metal casing all over the unit?

As far as I can tell, yes. The lid is definitly metal but I had a hard time telling if the back is metal but my conclusion is yes, since it is cold to the touch. The battery door is plastic, unfortunately.

I think that's one of the best Panasonic pictorials I've seen in a while -- the build quality of this unit is obviously second to none and is quite attractive. How'd you go about getting it?

Thanks! :D

Valder (Darrin) was hinting around that he was going to get rid of some MD units on the other board. I decided to ask him what he wanted to get rid of before he actually put them up for sale. ;)

did you get the cradle? i had one for ages until my sister dropped it. the remote is also a little fragile compared to sony & sharps.

what do you think of the sound stage? it took me some getting used to but i did like it.

Unfortunately no cradle. :( I have tried it with some SP recordings and my Pana JE50's. I notice the bass is tight but a little lacking on the highs. I attribute that to the JE50's. Will have to try my EX71's with it.

Definitley different to the Sony signature sound, that's for sure. I have an Aiwa too and feel it is just a tad less bassy than the Aiwa. I really have to listen in a quiet environment. I have not had a chance to do that yet.

The remote is about average quality. Curiously I feel it is of better quality than the 33EL.

Okay, I had a good hour with the unit and like atrain said, the sound signature takes some getting used to. It does grow on you. I found that the first base setting and the normal EQ setting were best for the type of music I was listening to (electronica). I do not like the 2nd base setting or "train", whatever that is.

How do you like the Eject clip? With my Panasonic it works, but only to just open it up and pop out the disc. The door closes directly after, so it's difficult to change the discs (have to keep the door open with my fingers and then try to remove the disc without closing the door again and trying to put in a new one)....

Is this the same with your unit or do I have a faulty Eject clip?

By the way; great pictorial of a very nice unit!!

The eject mechanism is the same as you describe. It took me a little to figure it out but if you just hold the eject lever "down" with your thumb it is actually very easy to change discs. I actually like the system. It keeps me from forgetting to close the door when I am done.^_^

Thanks for the kind comments. :D

Couple of questions, does anyone have an english manual for this unit? Does anyone know if this unit accepts 4 pole headphones? The remote seems to suggest yes?

I don't know but the remote has a 4 pole plug plus another two contacts in the very base of the plug. Sort of like an RCA plug. If you look at the headphone jack on the actual unit pictures above, it even sort of looks like an RCA jack.

I wish someone that understands Japanese would translate the manual that is found in the browser. :(

Hey Ivan

Glad you like the player. Yeah the sound does take some time to get used to. I found I prefered music with more vocals on the panasonic. Told you it was shiny. :D

I found the eject function of this unit nice, but it is definately a two handed operation and would be easier if you had three hands.

I was wondering if you ever saw this post. :D I have been enjoying the player exclusively at work. I have even worked out how to eject the disc with one hand! :D

Yeah you made it look so good I almost regret getting rid of it....almost that is. :D

One handed? Well that is a feat with that Aiwa. LOL!

Valder

Aiwa?

The aiwa I definitely have to use two hands to swap discs. The door does not open as far as I would like but it works great for recording. I especially love the EL backlight screen. But that's for another thread. To be honest I was wondering why you got rid of the Panasonic? What are you going to get now?

I just realized I have three of your old units.

Your nice pictorial inspired me to buy this unit. I found it on eBay for £25, brand new. I received it this morning and am loving it. It's the first player-only I see in real-life and I'm still amazed at how small it is. I was kind of deceived by the close-up pictures you have taken, and had expected it to be a bit bigger, but it's just wonderful.

Now I just have to get me a plug converter for the UK style plug on the AC adapter, so I can charge the battery and use it without the AA-battery attachment.

I think so, too. Although that doesn't include shipping and I have to buy that plug converter, but still.

For anyone interested, it seems like this seller still has quite a number of them left. It says they only ship to the UK, but just ask beforehand and they may be willing to send it to other countries. I did and it was no problem to ship it to the Netherlands.

Yep, ordered one as well, JAN.08th (not yet arrived) the seller charged me £7.00 w/insurance to the US, not too bad. Hopefully it will get here soon!

Yo! Where'd you get those TDK Flower discs? AND do you have any to sell me?!?

Sorry, I don't have any to sell. I actually purchased them through bland10000. He was kind enough to buy them and ship them to me from Japan. Maybe if you ask bland10000 nicely? :D
