bland10000
The Sony MZ-EH50, released along side the MZ-EH70 on November 10, 2005:backside:the sideview next to Walkman symbol:sideview opposite Walkman symbol:The top is plain and the bottom can be seen in the size comparison photo below with the MZ-EH70.The MZ-EH50 comes with a color matching stand, bag, 'phones, and white rm-mc38el remote. The EH50 is like the EH70, please see Mikami's review of the EH70, except in two respects. The EH50 does not have the acoustic engine-virtuaphone technology, and the entire body of the EH50 is plastic.A view of the pink EH-50 next to the pink EH-70:and a comparative view of the two units being seen from the bottom of the EH50: Edited December 24, 2005 by bland10000
Ishiyoshi
Looks cute. I noticed you seem to fancy a pink unit; did you manage to acquire a MZ-E610?
bland10000
Yes, I do like the color so if I see a model version in pink that is the color I will choose. I still haven't bought an mz-e610; saw one on Yahoo Auction.jp last week but it finished out at 15,000 en. Since the amp of the 610 is stepping back two upgrades, I doubt I would ever use it as a listening device so I'm hesitant to spend over ichiman for it. Mikami
(1) Those are great pics. Your review is concise and clear. (2)Your MZ-EH50 looks to be a mix between a straw berry milkshake pink and a light coraland the MZ-EH70 appears to be a compromise with a mageta(+18.0" 1.2%desat) and a medium Violet red maybe just some lavenderish color. (3 the aside)However, my computer screen has deceived before concering the color of MD units, esp the navy blue sharp IM-DR80. It has a glitter like gloss in person, but just does not show up at all in digi-pics on my compture and the unit looks black rather than navy on my screen.(4) Who is the anime and/or manga character? Is this Rami from video game Keio Yugekitai, or a manga character, or just a character made up in time for the holidays? The character looks vaguely familiar, somehow.(5) Which MD unit feels the lightest to you?(6) What material do you think the back of the EH-50 is? I couldn't tell. It felt strong but flexible when I saw it in the store.(7)What do you think about the paint jobs both units have their on unique coats. The EH-50 has a nice diecast glossy coat, while the EH-70 is just a solid coat. The glossy coast of the EH-50 is very appealing and I like all the matching accessories that come with it. I was temped to buy it and had a hard time picking between the EH-50 and the EH-70, but I finally picked the Eh-70 because of it's sound options. The EH-50 really does look nice in your pics and I like the fact that there aren't any scractable chrome looking plates on it. Thank you for sharing, Mikami Edited December 25, 2005 by Mikami
bland10000
2) Strawberry milkshake is the perfect description of the color, Mikami.3) I agree that the blue dr77 has a gloss. When I look at the 77 in person the gloss shows up best when I move the unit around so it reflects different amounts of light. A single picture can't express the various angles.4) The figurine is Asuka Langley Soryu from the manga series Neo Evangelion. A tough read for me but the story lines are more interesting than Miffy & Chui. I want to find copies of the original ginga tetsudou, I read a few English translations and the stories were interesting and thought provoking.5) According to specs the 50 is 80g and the 70 is 83g. Three grams difference doesn't seem much but it is enough to tell by feel.6) The back of the 50 is the same plastic as the front. When I tap on the different faces I can hear a difference but that is because the internals are attached to the back-plate while only the disc holder is attached to the front-plate.7) Paint jobs on both units are fine. I'm glad that the color shades are different. I was looking at the white EH70 yesterday at it seems more a grey to me than white especially if you are comparing the white 50 to the white 70.p.s. I am going to stop off at McDonalds on my way into Tokyo this afternoon, you got me thinking about strawberry milkshakes... I am going to stop off at McDonalds on my way into Tokyo this afternoon, you got me thinking about strawberry milkshakes...Now, that is interesting, although the MZ-EH70 is metal and the MZ-EH50 is plastic their weights are not that much different. They are both nice looking and sounding units and I am glad Sony is still making Hi-MD units. Enjoy that milkshake, MikamiP.S.Try looking at this link for the Ginga Tetsudou you can pay at the time of delivery, too. http://www.amazon.co.jp/exec/obidos/ASIN/4...1247455-1337953Here's their english home page: http://www.amazon.co.jp/exec/obidos/tg/bro...1247455-1337953

bland10000
eh thanks Zerodb, living where I do makes it easy to obtain units; sometimes too easy.Mikami, the strawberry milkshake was quite satisfying and as soon as I figure out the enrollment process for amazon.co.jp I'll be getting me some gingatetsudou999; thanks for the links. AMPlitude
thanks for the review, ill steer away from the eh50 now that i know that its all plasticdoes it feel flimsy?
bland10000
No, not at all, it feels solid and everything fits together fine. If I were a superhero in a cape and codpiece perhaps the daily battles with super-villians and their minions would be too much stress on the unit. As it is, this unit holds up fine in my everyday life of crowded buses and trains.
