0 juli
I can't believe they even bothered to mention the damn thing if it wasn't going to be available for another six months. This is really disappointing. Why'd they bother to present it at the CES show, just so they had something to announce? Six months is a huge amount of time in a dap's life, and a 32GB Sony won't seem nearly as desirable then as it is right now Of course, the delay won't stop me getting it, but in the meantime, I can whinge about it all I like And now the link to the extra pictures won't open. Do we have to wait till summer for that to be available too???
0 Ascariss
Here are the pictures, I saved them from the press site. I wanted to use the new x series when I will be heading off to europe for vacation, but it looks like I will have to use my old 818.

0 juli
Wow, it's small! I wonder if it's about the same size as the A829? That would be great! And do we know what controls they've put on the side? Sorry if it's already been mentioned. But most of the controls seem to be on the top, which might be a little awkward to get used to after having them on the side for so long.
0 Ascariss
Well the volume key was always on the side, as is the case in the 81x and 80x, but the controls were on the front, but they seem to have kept the home key infront which is good. I would have liked to have seen metal on the sides like in the old 800 series, which made the player look a bit more high end and expensive, where as in this case, the plastic looks cheapo, almost like recycled plastic :/I did some calculating using photoshop, and the size of the player should be 2 in by 3.75 in or 51mm x 96 mm and .4 in thick or 10.1 mm. Wow, so it's almost exactly the same size, that really is tiny! The iPod Touch is like a brick in comparison. I'm really glad it's smaller!Well the volume key was always on the side, as is the case in the 81x and 80x, Is the volume control still on the side??? I thought it was on top.but they seem to have kept the home key infront which is good.Yeah, I'm glad they kept it on the front. It would be a lot more awkward to have it anywhere else. I would have liked to have seen metal on the sides like in the old 800 series, which made the player look a bit more high end and expensive, where as in this case, the plastic looks cheapo, almost like recycled plastic :/ I'm kind of surprised Sony didn't put more effect into the aesthetics, I mean it's their first Touch dap, they should have pulled out all the stops. 0 Ascariss
Indeed size is important when it comes to a portable device and even though the ipod has a bigger screen, I still think 3 inches is fine for the walkman.Remember when I mentioned on the head-fi forums about it not appearing on the FCC site? well I think the early summer release explains why, I don't think sony has sent in the device to the FCC yet so that is why no info on the FCC. :/I am also wondering why Sonyinsider has not been updated with the new X series? or even other sony info? Maybe chris and stan are getting an exclusive? I do hope so, although unlikely I do hope Chris and Stan are able to convince sony that an early summer release of the new X series is too late for this product and most people will forget about it 3 months from now and probably buy a cowon S9 or samsung p3. 0 juli
I am also wondering why Sonyinsider has not been updated with the new X series? or even other sony info?Yes, it doesn't make sense. This is a Sony information site. Before I put the video link on Head-Fi, I came here first expecting to see news about it. And there was nothing!although unlikely I do hope Chris and Stan are able to convince sony that an early summer release of the new X series is too late for this productand most people will forget about it 3 months from now and probably buy a cowon S9 or samsung p3.Exactly! And no doubt Apple will have a 64GB Touch out by then, and Sony's offering will look laughable and outdated. I don't understand why they would show something so far in advance of a release date. All it does is disappoint potential buyers. And I guess we won't know which countries will get the 32GB version either until right at the last minute, just like the A829
0 Richard
Both Chris and Stan are at CES as we speak and I have no doubt they will be updating the site asap with some quality first hand information on the X-Series. I didn't want to jump the gun and and post anything generic before they did (apart from which I am up to my neck in exams for my masters degree). Incidentally the Sony Europe press release mentions a spring release not summer for the X-series.

0 Ascariss
Well another update, sony canada just got off their lazy asses and updated their press site.X series will come in only 32 gb capacities, in May and in black, no price mentioned.W series will come in 2 gb, colours are: pink, black, white, violet and cost is about 100 dollars. 0 Guest Stuge
OMG!I was expecting these were to be released soon .So ,if they launch X1000 in May in US ,then it will take another three months to launch it here ..I'm really disappointed .IMO they should launch the product as soon as they make press release . 0 Anthony
I really hope it utilizes WM port. I have purchased a few devices that use this port. As for having to wait, maybe SONY are hoping they can build up some hype............actually no, I bet you somebody else will get to the market with a 32GB OLED touch screen first.....Oh come on SONY, you're killing us here. 0 juli
Hi Shirley and Anthony again!Continued from the other thread Yes. I wish more people would come over from Atraclife. Maybe now a new Zeddex is in the pipeline, more people will join in the chit chat. I agree with you about the lack of updates Sony provides. When I had the Zune 80, there were 2 major updates in 6 months - gapless play was implemented and the crappy transfer software was improved. I used to think SS was quirky, until I had to use the awful Zune software, and then I was desperate to use SS again, that's how bad the Zune s/w was. But the latest update was great and the tagging was hugely improved. In effect, it was almost like having a new player, whereas with Sony - you actually have to go and BUY a new player to get LESS features And, like you - I also wonder how easy it would be to put back some of the missing features. I'm taking a guess that because the 81x drag and drop version was so popular, that Sony figured out not enough people cared about them. And if you look at the reviews on Amazon UK, the 808 got hardly any - and the 818 got quite a few. But I think most of the 818 owners were NOT previous 808 owners, they were people who were just waiting for a Sony drag and drop. But the sad thing is... I'll still get the Zeddex even if it IS missing useful features. I just can't get on with the Apple sound at all. I can't deny the Touch has great features and it's very simple to use, but after about half an hour, the sound just annoys me. It's kind of brittle and hard, and then I have to change back to the Sony (which doesn't have the space for all my music!) I'm so addicted to the Sony sound signature, that I'm prepared to give up all the features I want, just so I can have the sound! I really think the new one is going to sound fantastic! 0 oldskoold
Hi y'all. Ref these new DAPs the all important question is the price. Whilst the features look good, it's in the price that this product will either do well, or sink without a trace!

Whilst the features look good, it's in the price that this product will either do well, or sink without a trace!HEY, where have you been? I don't remember getting an official request from you asking to stay away for so long Anyway, it's nice to see you again. I agree about the price. I was hoping we'd have some news by now, but there's nothing. And we still don't know what capacity models we'll be getting. Remember when we were trying to find out if we'd get the A829, and Sony UK said we'd only be getting the 8GB version, and then they proceeded to remove the 16GB listings from the website? And then? And then we DID get the 16GB model - so I really hope we get some concrete facts really soon. I hate not knowing.

0 juli
Oooooooooooh!! The close-up pics really show it off! It's beautiful. So I guess the home button functions in exactly the same way as before. And to go 'back' 'forwards' is done via the touch screen or from the top of the unit? It really is quite tiny, and it looks very similar to the 82x series. I see the battery icon has changed position from the bottom of the screen to the top, and the headphone jack is back on the bottom right again, like the 808/818. Other than that, I can't see too many changes (visually) from the other models, except for the unfinished semi-circular home button So anyway, no UK prices???? No idea if we'll get the 32GB version? I trust that all is well. The sad thing is that I'm afraid that Sony are gonna muck around with their new DAPs, depending on where you live. Why can't Sony have dedicated Sony shops like Apple. All these Sony francise Sony centres, which are quite expensive, are ruinning the brand!

As for AMP, they were offering the S639 for £89 a while ago, is that the one you're talking about? I think Amazon and Argos had it reduced to that amount as well.
