bland10000
To format, using SS 3.3, plug the usb connection into the player then open up SS; wait a few seconds for SS to recognize the unit. Click "transfer" and select "hi-md"; what is on the disc will be displayed in the window below. Look on the bottom of that window and you will see "device/media info", click it. A small window will open and click "initialize".
Sony_Fan
What I suggest is doing a full format of the disc. Insert the disc into the unit and set the recording mode to PCM. Don't plug anything in USB or Line in. Hold record and press enter. This will record over the entire surface of the disc and "even out" any errors on it. Since this is realtime recording if your using a 1GB, it will take about 90 min or so. If you're using a standard minidisc it should take less than 30 min. After the recording is done, eject the disc and insert it again. Format the disc to Hi-MD and that will delete the table of contents and you'll have a full formatted blank disc. Many people don't realize that when you format a disc, you are only erasing the table of contents. The recorded material is still on the disc. You can use the full format technique on a disc that has been recorded on over and over again. This will reduce the chance of disc errors. Hope that helps.
