Hi

I wonder if it is possible to see the playlists/tracks on the player in connect and select to edit a playlist in the player?

Regards

Sure, playlists work fine in the Connect player. Try this out:

1. Go to the Tools, New Playlist menu item

2. Name the playlist (in the upper left-hand side window) to something you like

3. Click the Library item

4. Highlight some tracks you want, then drag and drop them onto the name of your playlist

5. Click the playlist name to see the tracks you just put into it.

6. If you want to re-arrange them, click on the track you want to move and drag it to just below the spot you want it to sit, then let go of the mouse.

Bonus Playlist goodness:

1. Click the Library icon

2. Select some tracks you want to put into a playlist (use Shift or Control to select multiple tracks)

3. Go to the Tools, New Playlist Menu item

4. Name the playlist (in the upper left-hand side window) to something you like

5. You are done. The tracks that were highlighted are added to the playlist when you made it.

Seems simple to me, but then I use the player every day :ol_biggrin:

Once sony adds the ability to edit the playlist or make playlists on the units themselves, then will the player only become the ultimate mp3 player.

Maybe I'm old fashioned, but if I can make a playlist in the player, then drop it onto the device, why would I want to make one on the device only? Seems like a complicated deal where some playlists are "device only" and some are "PC only" and some are "both." Like I said, seems complicated.

True, but the thing is, once you get bored with a playlist and you are not near a PC, it would be nice to make one on the go in the meantime.

I've yet to play around with playlists, may do that later next week, but I am waiting for the next update for CP in january I guess, since i want it to be running as fast and stable as possible.

You can use the bookmark function instead of the playlist.

It is possible to make 5 different boodmarks with up to 100 songs. (page 31 IM)

It really depends on how quickly you can navigate your library as to how easy / cumbersome on-the-fly playlist creation would be. On the Vaio Pocket, it was a bit cumbersome to make playlists on the fly. Easy process but sluggish performance when navigating the player prevented me from doing it much. I much prefer making lists on the PC and transferring them over (I'm so stoked that Connect Player makes this so easy), but in a pinch it would be nice to have a method to make a short playlist from the tracks existing on the player. Of the 2 I'd take playlist creation on the PC any day.

You hit the button to create a new playlist and it crashed, or at what point did it crash during the process? I made a playlist no sweat. Created a new one, highlighted a bunch of tracks from my library, dragged them to the playlist's icon, then clicked on the playlist and organized the tracks. Perhaps it helps that I don't have thousands of tracks imported into connect player...

I've actually had CP crash once on me when I tried to go and make a playlist, so I gave up trying making anymore for now. The ability to import a winamp playlists though would be nice.

If you have M3U's laying around the hard drive, telling Connect player to import them using the directory import function should work fine. I've done it several times using Winamp to create playlists.

Just to be sure here, Can I open up a exsisting playlist from the unit and edit it in Connect player?

To be clear: the Walkman cannot and will not accept playlists from any application (yet) but Connect Player. So, if you want to use playlists made by other applications (like Winamp or Musicmatch) you must first "import" those M3U lists into the Connect Player.

Once this happens, they will show up as playlists in the upper left-hand side of the app. You can edit, rename, and drop these new playlists onto your device. I've done this several times so I know it works.

so can someone clear this up for me once and for all...I have a ton of songs on the vaio pocket and want to make playlists based on those songs. HOWEVER, some of the playlists have the SAME song in them - get it? For example 30 playlists can actually have beethoven's 5th occur 3 times....it has been my experience that if you want to create/transfer those 30 playlists to your portable player (vaio in mycase) THEN sony will copy beethoven's 5th THREE TIMES. Is there anyway to avoid this waste of space? On an old player I had (non sony) I could make playlists on the PC while connected to player and make multiple playlists where songs would be repeated but NOT copied over 3 times.

I understand this may be a problem relating to sony's digital rights obsession...but seriously...it's bizarre...you can copy the same 10 megabyte mp3 song onto the vaio pocket TEN TIMES over. Sony seems to rename the file into the incoherent omg ignoring the fact it is the SAME tune.

This has been a dilemma for me for a while because I like to make new playlists which encompass both new and existing mp3 tracks...

can anyone provide some light?

The vaio pocket doesn't seem to have the ability to make playlists per se as the new units.

I tried the winamp method and it has worked fine so far, the playlist is in the player at this moment. And So far so good, I can finally go back to MD like days of listening to songs in an order lol.

another crazy fact is that when you rename a file(s) in CP, once you hook it up, the files will be renamed automatically on the player, and I am on manual sync mode as well.

tried the search function of CP as well, works like a charm.
