Help! CDDB not recognizing new CDs....

I am going crazy with SS 3.3. I have never seen a more buggy program, and I'm about ready to switch to Apple after being a longtime MD enthusiast.

My main problem is one that whatsleftofj highlighted recently:

After I import a CD using SS, I eject it and insert a new CD. Then, Gracenote/CDDB doesn't recognize the new CD and continues to show the previous CD's track listing. Clicking on "CD Info" or "Refresh" does not work. If I close and then reboot Sonicstage, it recognizes the new CD, but I really don't want to go through this process for 500+ CDs.

I have disabled all firewalls, both XP's and McAfee's, and all other security functions. Please, can someone help me????

Thanks.

Matt

this happensd to me sometimes. do you have more than one cd/dvd drive? i just click on say f: then back to g: [where g: is the drive not responding].

if you don't have two physical drives find a free copy of daemon tools & create a virtual drive, you don't need to mount anything in it, just make sure there are more drop down options in the import cd screen

This happens to me with Simple Burner sometimes. (And by the way, if you just want to get a CD onto a disk without leaving a copy in your computer, Simple Burner is the way to go.)

What I do is leave the disk inserted, start to play it in Winamp and shut down Winamp a few seconds after it starts. Then Simple Burner starts to read the disc and you can click on Get CD Info for CDs thereafter. I'd guess SonicStage will do the same.

Why? Don't ask me. Maybe it's the same as the post above: you do specify to Winamp which CD drive to play.

I can't Simple Burner to work the CDDB either. I don't know what to do.

I can't try the winamp option since I don't have it installed yet.

I'll try to restart my computer. That's all I can think of. Then I'll reinstall the SB.

If you right-click on the Simple Burner icon in your system tray in the context menu that pops up there is a sub menu CDDB. In here is the "Windows Configuration" option greyed out? If it isn't select it then fill in a username and password to be used by the service that connects to CDDB. If this has already been done either choose the Register option to try and refresh the connection to Gracenote or it could be that the password for the username you specified for the sevice doesn't match the password in the windows user database.

eg: if originally you specified the username and password you log on to your machine with as the credentials for the service then subsequently changed your password this will likely not have updated the the password in the service in which case you will need to change it via the Services applet in the windows control panel. - The service in question is MD Simple Burner DB Access Service

Let me know if you need any help checking this,

Not to confuse things here richyhu, but I've been using SB for a while and have never seen MD Simple Burner DB Access Service show up on my system. There is a MD Simple Burner Service but if I'm not mistaken this is to make SB autostart whenever a HiMD or netMD device is plugged in and the "download" button is pressed.

Just curious.

Thank you Rich,

I had heard about the windows configuration option from some other topics, but that was already greyed out, so I didn't know what to do. Then right after your reply, I wanted to try it again, checking the menu, to my surprise it was "not" greyed out!!! As I was thinking how it could be, I clicked on it and nothing happened. Then I closed the simple burner app and restarted it, and now it's greyed out again.

What user name and password should I put in if I ever get to open that menu? The cddb registration worked without a problem in SonicStage, why can't it work in here?

Thanks for your interest.

Maybe it's just on XP Pro then, but here are a couple of shots of the service in question, this one uses the credentials specified in the "Windows Configuration" option in the SB CDDB Menu.

You're right in that the other service is simply called MD Simple Burner Service and controls the autostart of the system tray utility.
