Sony_Fan
My dad has an old MD player (Aiwa). It only has line/optical in. It's a standard MD recorder (SP 292kbps). I want to transfer music in SP mode to my MZRH10 so that he can play them on his MD player. The manual says that I have to use the software to record in SP mode but I don't see any settings in SS3.3 or Simple Burner that let me record in SP mode. What should I do? Thanks. MDGB2
Use the RH10 and as the player and Aiwa as the recorder.
greenmachine
You have to record in realtime, preferrably via optical cable if recording from a digital source for highest fidelity. If you're not equipped with a digital out or you record from an analog source, use an analog line-out to line-in connection. No software is required/possible for transfer, just use the rec button. Thanks.I've done this several times. Unfortunately I don't have SonicStage in front of me at the moment, but from memory if you select the option to convert files to ATRAC3, (as opposed to ATRAC3+ or Hi-MD) you will be given 3 bitrates to choose from. If you select the highest, it will allow you to transfer in a format which will allow your dad to play it on his Aiwa.It won't be at 292kbps, (IIRC it's 132kbps), but if your dad's hearing is as bad as mine he probably won't hear the difference. At least give it a try - it's certainly quicker than real-time recording and it will title the tracks for you as well.
greenmachine
It doesn't seem to have a USB connection anyway, so this seems out of the question. You'd need a Net- or Hi-MD for faster than realtime transfer.

Now, under the transfer settings for NetMD is the setting for "SP Transfer Mode" (See attached pics). This will be compatible with older devices, but as stated here previously... This is actually LP2 dressed up like SP, or "Fake SP". But it should work. Edited January 30, 2006 by raintheory
Sony_Fan
Raintheory, it worked! I transferred one track to test it out and it played on my dad's MD player. I first imported the track as a .wav file and then converted to SP and transferred. When i listened to it, it almost sounds like SP. But I noticed it took longer to tranfer than the other formats. The Aiwa has dynamic sound enhancer so the track sounds pretty good. Thanks for your help!
