Difference between RH-10 and MZ-M100 ?

From what I've seen and heard, the new MZ-M100 seems almost exactly the same as the RH-10. Here are the differences I'm aware of so far:

--the M100 has a longer battery life

--the M100 can transfer PCM recordings to a Mac (or something like that)

But, I still have a few questions:

1) Does the M100 come in the colors that initially came out with the RH-10? (blue, and that cool orange?)

2) Does the M100 still have that mp3 problem that people mentioned about the RH-10? I remember that a couple of reviewers of the RH-10 said that Sony had intentionally crippled the sound quality of mp3's on the RH-10, where even really high bitrate mp3's wouldn't sound so good. Is that true, and does it also apply to the M100?

3) Why is the M100 so much more expensive than the RH-10 if it is so similar?

Thanks.

1 - AFAIK, the M100 comes only in black.

2 - As I have no access to an actual M100, I have no way to answer this. If someone with an M100 can confirm or deny that the MP3 playback is consistent with the RH10's [i.e. the rolloff above 1kHz dropping to -9dB around 10kHz and holding above that], that would be nice.

3 - Because Sony are like any corporation. They rebrand their own product, tweak a couple of things in the firmware [most likely just the USB device ID] so it will work with Macs, and then add a bunch to the price tag. As others have pointed out, the M100 usually also comes with a basic microphone as well.

In the end, what you're supposedly paying extra for is Mac compatibility, even though they could probably add it to every single RH10 already out there with a simple firmware upgrade, at 0 cost to the users.

The M100 is the Canadian version of the US RH10, with the Mac support. It's not more expensive, it's just priced in Canadian dollars. After conversion to US $$, it's roughly about the same as RH10.

please Chris, we here on MDCF do appreciate everyones opinion/advice... but how can you state such things without checking them first or stating any source at all??

from this and this (and many pages like those) and also from what I gathered here on MDCF (where the real MD-knowledge is of course :P ) the M100 is a newer HiMD (not a Canadian version) based on the RH10 but with added mac-compatibility and always bundled with a Sony mic. It was marketed at the recording (semi-)pro like journalists that often do use macs. It sells at +/- $320-350 which is still a bit more than a US RH10 (@ $250 from minidisco.com)

Okay, here is the link to SonyStyle Canada for the M100. It's priced in Canadian dollars and looks just like the RH10. The features are also listed:

it looks like it because it pretty much is an rh10 only with the added mac support & bundled mic.

note that the mac support is only for uploading himd recordings & not for music transfer to the player, SS is still required for that
