sub27
Will sony atleast make lossless formats available for their hd players? They haven't done that yet. Will they also be able to put in hd amps into them to improve sound quality?
ATELETRONICS
i think for a natural sound analog amps sound better. they just use the batteries faster... doesnt atrac lossless count???
sub27
I mean a completely lossless format like WAV. I've never heard of atrac lossless or which hd players they're used in.
pauljones52
atrac lossless is completely lossless format (hence its name), it is basically a .wav file zipped up (no information lost). The only benifit that .wav has is that it is more widely supported, but you can convert an atrac lossless file to a .wav file and it will sound the same as a .wav file from a ripped cd
MDGB2
If they stop md I'll be bl**dy annoyed!Just picked up 4 more blue 1GB discs off ebay... Although Atrac Lossless is now available, I don't think you can use it on Hi-MD or HD players natively yet. I'm hoping that the 3rd Gen (if it ever exists) will incorporate this feature. Couple that with a deck in the range an MD is back baby!
rainbow69
From the olden days of yore, when I first purchased my first MD, the biggest selling point was the ability to play lossy files without any noticable degradation in sound quality. Playing lossless files seems counter productive for the MD format and provides no real advantage besides being "complete"/"perfect".
