bbenjilih
Hi, allso i got all excited to buy a hi-md (mz rh10)but then my friend asks me how much better a hi-md is than a md and asks me if it's actually worth spending that extra 100 bux or so on a hi-md...so i look it up and i guess the only thing is that it can record more... 1 gig opposed to 80 min. MDi'm mainly buying it to record stuff and i guess also for listening mp3s and what not, but mainly recordingi AM pretty newb so can n e one tell me i guess the actual significant advantages of having a hi-md opposed to just getting a reg MD (not those numbers that make it seem a lot better when you can't actually feel the difference)
greenmachine
Hi-MD can upload recordings losslessly to the PC via USB faster than realtime, record in PCM (no lossy compression in the first place) for 94min/1GB or for almost 8h/1GB in high quality compressed mode (Hi-SP, comparable to NetMD's highest quality setting Atrac SP). It can reformat standard MDs to almost twice the capacity (~300MB).
The Low Volta
- Hi-MD records in PCM = CD-quality (90min on a 1gb disc)- Hi-MD records +/- 8hours in HiSP on a 1gb disc (IMHO as good as old SP)- Hi-MD allows faster-than-realtime digital transfers of your recordings to PC (and with the M-models also to mac)- Hi-MD can use standard MD-discs (like 80min discs) but also more efficiently so longer recordings times (great for HiSP recordings of +/- 2.5hours)all of the above are impossible on normal MD (don't be fooled by the USB connection of NetMD, it's PC->MD only!!)If you do not want to spend too much, search for the NH700/800/900... these are 1st gen Hi-MD's... very good! but without native MP3 playback. These can be found a lot cheaper nowadays. Edited March 2, 2006 by The Low Volta
Sparky191
Since I got a HiMD I haven't used my MD players. I think its very much worth it.
jonny mac
If you buy MD now you'll regret it and wish you'd gone for HiMD. The capacity, uploading, better quality recording, USB mass storage etc etc all add up to a great package.
