NH600 remote control compatibility

So I'm thinking of getting a bargain NH600 from Minidisc Australia as a backup for my NH900. Now, according to the equipment browser, specifically this picture (admittedly of a 600D if you peer at the top face closely enough), it can accept a remote control (I know it doesn't come with one but I presume it will work with the NH900's). But if you look at the image on Minidisc Australia, i.e. this picture, it clearly doesn't accept a remote, as the headphone socket stands alone.

So what gives? Minidisc Australia claim it does but their picture says not. Hmmm... maybe the 600D does but the 600 doesn't?

have a look in the remote port gap, i'm pretty sure there's no contacts in there, it's just a plastic sleeve to fill the hole.

what i thought was the

600d was download only but had a remote port, nth america

600 line/optical in but no remote support, europe.

Waaaaaggghhh!!! Utterly confused :(

Viv, sorry to flog a moribund horse, but does your remote (if you have one) actually do anything useful with the 600?

IIRC, this question has been asked before on this forum. I'm not sure of the specifics, but I seem to remember that there were differences between the European and US NH600. One of them has a connection for a remote, while the other doesn't. So make sure of what you are getting, when you buy one. (And don't take descriptions on the websites of retailers as the absolute truth, because they often contain errors.)

Ah the joys of multiple regions. Why do manufacturers inflict this kind of thing on us?

I don't really mind too much if it can't handle a remote, although it would be nice; after all it's only a backup. It was just that picture (which incidentally appears on Minidisc Australia and the equipment browser; who had it first, I wonder?) which clearly shows a lack. If I hadn't seen that, the question wouldn't even have occurred to me. Perhaps it's one of those pre-production shots before Sony changed its mind.

MA conscientiously make it quite clear in at least two places that it doesn't have a mic input, so I would have thought they would be equally clear about a lack of remote capability.

Thanks to everyone for the (occasionally conflicting) feedback, though.

Hey Greenshank,

even i ordered the same one from minidisc australia, they picture they had displayed on the product specification page does not show that it has a port for remote control

but when i got my Hi-md there was one port for remote control, so dont worry!!! the minidisc is displaying wrong picture

I have seen photos of 600D with only the single 3.5mm jack hole, nothing for the 4-"prong" remote. However my own 600D (NA model) takes a remote just fine. If there's a slot there most any remote including the 38EL will work just fine.

For added certainty I just gave it a non-exhaustive spin with the 600D. Seems to be fine.
