Sony_Fan
Normally I do my recording in Hi-SP, but with the new SonicStage 4.0, I've experimented with ATRAC3+ 192 and the sound quality is very good, almost like Hi-SP. Were the codecs improved or is it just my imagination?

Avrin
Somehow I don't think that codecs were really improved. 192 kbps was already quite good in SS34. Edited July 10, 2006 by Avrin
greenmachine
Also i wonder if realtime encoding (Hi-SP/LP) on the unit itself has improved over generations. Any thoughts on this?
Skradgee
Mmm, I don't think so. I have no evidence to really proove that, but I just doubt that more work was put into the codecs. However, it does apears that more work was put into the hardware or software (firmware?) that does the decoding of Atrac files. Second gen units appear to be the best at playing back damaged discs. I'll post more info about this in another thread.
