Hello,

I just bought a brand-new MZ-DH710 and I love it - except that the jog dial only works if I press down very firmly in some spots.

Has anyone else had problems with their jog dials? Can I fix it myself by opening the unit? I don't want to go through Sony to fix it...

Thanks.

The way I see it is: if it's brand new then it should be under warranty and the worst thing that could happen is that you'll be without it for a few weeks.

If you try to fix it yourself and something goes wrong, you'll void your warranty and possibly be without it for ever.

Mind you, I never was any good with anything electrical ;)

The NH900 has also experienced jog dial problems - there is a thread on it if you do a search here. One option for you would be to get a better remote. Some remotes that can still be found easily: 33EL, 40ELK (the expensive one), 35ELK, 38ELK. But, since it's brand new, I'd go to Sony for warranty work. Good luck.

Hey thanks for your response

- I do have the 40ELK working with it - so the jog dial on the unit is not a huge problem (but I'm slightly neurotic and I need everything to be perfect).

I tried searching for the NH900 thread, but couldn't find it. I did find a thread related to a problem with the NH600 jog dial. That person just sent it through the Sony exchange program and got a better unit...which is not an option for me because I bought it brand new from eBay.

Here you go. Happy reading. :) Hope you can get some kind of help out of this thread:

PS No wonder you couldn't find it - the thread title isn't very clear. There are others, but this is the big thread talking about the NH900 problem. Good luck.

many thanks Jaylen. But unless I'm missing it, I don't see any discussion on a faulty jog dial...just alot of common problems with pressing the buttons on the unit. I'll read it again just in case I'm missing it.

In the end - I'll probably just have to live with using the 40ELK remote. Lesson learned: I doubt I'll purchase a new unit again from a non-authorized Sony dealer on eBay.

lol Oops, my bad. It was one of the first few threads I saw when I did a search for "NH900+jog+dial." I didn't read all the way through it, but I do remember reading about faulty jog dials somewhere here... good luck and sorry for the mislead if that thread doesn't help you with the problem.

I'm the one you are referring too that had the same problem on my nh600d jog dial, and recieved an rh10 through the exchange program.

You bought it new through ebay, correct? As in it was new in the box completely sealed and never opened before with all paperwork? I bought my 600D off amazon the same way, completely sealed and never used before. I printed my receipt off amazon.com and sent it in with it, and they took it and replaced it.

Try it, couldn't hurt. Print your ebay.com receipt and follow the instructions on the exchange website. Because it is so new, you may not even have to pay the $30 I did, good luck.

Thanks Rob - I was thinking of doing what you did, but when I called Sony's customer support they told me that because I bought it from an individual (not a dealer), I wouldn't be covered in the exchange program (even though it was brand new).
