HI-MD compatability question with NetMD drive

I have a Sony PCV-MXS10 PC. This machine has a built in NetMD drive right into the computer. I am looking to get a Sony MZ-DH10p (Hi-MD with digital camera). I would like to get a better idea of the compatability between the existing Net-MD format and the Hi-MD format. Will I be able to use the NetMD drive to format HI-MD mini discs? Is this a physical issue with the Hi-MD drive (firmware) or is this software driven (via Sonic stage).

Thanks in advance for any info.

Regards,

Mattc

Unfortunately it is a hardware issue in the sense that the NetMD drive won't be forward compatible with the new Hi-MD devices and format Hi-MD discs. The DH10P can read legacy discs, but you won't be able to store photos for example to NetMD formatted discs.

Rich,

Thanks for the info. From the hardware perspective, is it firmware or physical hardware compatability issues (ie different read/write devices etc.). The reason I ask is based on some devices supporting firmware updates.

Unfortunately NetMD devices cannot be upgraded via firmware to support Hi-MD technology. You may want to look into something like the DS-HMD1 as an additional peripheral. Not as elegant as an internal MD drive for sure but as yet a Hi-MD internal drive has not been built.

Unfortunantly the DS-HMD1 has been discontinued and is no where to be found. Anyone know where one can get a hold of one? I even tried Japan Direct and even with their prices they said they had no more despite being listed on their site.
